I’m giving it two stars simply for the scenery and the very nice waitress & bartender at the Mill Room. When we checked in, a guest that was leaving was speaking to the person at the desk about their air conditioning. I should have taken that as a warning. The AC in our room was so so loud, and not the white noise kind of loud. It was constant, loud rattling. Tried to use towels to buffer the noise to no avail. We were in room 216, which was right above the lobby. The music from the lobby blared all night. We put in for a callback to the front desk at about 11 pm and didn’t hear back. The noise was so bad that we ended up leaving and driving back home (one hour away) at midnight. Other than the noise, the room felt more like a $100/night motel than a $300+/night historic inn. It smelled musty, there was hair in the sink and shower and the windowsills had dead bugs. There was also cleaning equipment left strewn about the hallway — something I wouldn’t expect from a resort that calls itself luxury. The tiles in the shower were cracked and starting to mold. The Mill Room was okay. The waitress we had was amazing. The ambiance needs work, though. Felt more like an Olive Garden. This resort needs a huge overhaul of the rooms. They desperately need to be cleaned better. I’m glad I live within driving distance and had only booked a night.Do not recommend.

The overall experience is great the property is beautiful. But upon check in there was a group of people at the check in desk that were sloppy drunk and wheeling around their passed out friend on a luggage cart. The hotel staff did nothing about it. They were passing around bottles of liquor and causing a scene. Also while at dinner at the mill room which charges fine dining prices they do not hold the guests up to a fine dining standard, such as dressing appropriately and not in shorts and flip flops.

Absolutely amazing. We booked the room last minute and got the last available room and we were not disappointed. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the room was beyond my expectations. My only complaint was the lack of mini-fridge but most hotels are doing away with this feature so it isnt a huge deal. We will definitely be coming back for an extended stay to enjoy the rest of the resorts amenities.

Our stay at Boars Head was a wonderful experience. The staff was more than accommodating. We arrived into town earlier than expected and they were able to get us checked into our room early. After checking in we headed over to the Birdwood golf course for lunch where we enjoyed a meal on their covered patio overlooking the course. The precautions the team has taken for COVID made my wife and I both feel comfortable and safe during our stay. Even though it was raining we took full advantage of their beautiful hiking trails. The resort is located close to all the fun things Charlottesville has to offer. We look forward to returning for another stay in the future.

The hotel was dirty and old. Not old and charming. My husband said “you paid $420 a night for this dump?” We were in room 2212. And paid $50 extra to bring our small shih tzu. Perhaps that’s why the room was bad?? Shower curtain was too short. Didn’t even fit in tub so water was everywhere. I did not want to walk around room barefoot much less eat there. I wouldn’t have been so bothered if we had paid $200 from 4pm to 11am. But we wouldn’t have stayed here if it didnt state it was a luxury resort. I heard maybe some parts got a facelift. This was not one of them. I asked about restaurants in the area and the guy at the front desk said he didn’t know of any?? I asked if they had a concierge- he didn’t know what that was. I did not complain to manager at the thought my kids would call me a “Karen”

The overall property is very enjoyable and beautiful. The employees at the golf and racquet clubs were very helpful and pleasant. The Mill restaurant was very crowded and noisy and overbooked on Friday night - the food was very good however and after we we got seated 30 minutes late for our reservation the server was excellent. The hotel rooms need work and the staff at the main help line was inconsistent and slow to respond -our room smelled like a pet and the shower curtain was too short so water went all over the floor - not safe!

It was a lovely resort! Picturesque and The Mill Stone Room was delicious! There was a chemical smell on the 4th floor though. We drove 40 miles for Thanksgiving lunch. We were one of the first to be seated. Our waitress was so kind, happy and helpful. She made the long drive worth it. However, the food was very disappointing. The mashed potatoes were cold and hard. The other veggies were inedible because they were cold and some were undercooked. The meats were very good. Rolls cold and hard. We had wonderful memories of a wonderful Thanksgiving meal there some years ago and were so excited to come back. Well go somewhere else next year. Sadly, because you have a beautiful place. The food should be outstanding.

The Boars Head Inn is a seemingly historic inn that lacks the sophistication and luxury one might expect from its history and price. We have stayed there a handful of times, mainly for the convenience, but also as we keep hoping the experience (a new room or maybe new staff) might make it better, only to find that little changes. On our last stay we were in a supposedly great room (601). I think we have stayed in this wing before and found that the room is okay - the bed is actually very comfortable - but the bathrooms are poorly designed. The toilet is crammed next to the shower. Luckily Im not big, but I imagine that a large person might have to sit sideways on the toilet. The air conditioning makes tons of noise at night - I think the AC unit had a problem and the only response was well have maintenance look at it when you leave. That noise was not as bad as the trampling on the floor above us... likely staff coming in and out early in the morning in the working space above. It sounded as though they were moving furniture every morning around 6 am. None of this would have been insurmountable if it were not for the lack of service at the hotel in general. The bellman was rarely to be seen. I had to carry my bags with a surgery boot on my foot both from my car and to my car. There was no offer of help to get my bags to the room... again, I was clearly having challenges with my surgery boot. The front desk reception was just transactional - not helpful in getting settled.

I have been traveling to Charlottesville for work for the last two years and just now stayed a week at the Boars Head Resort. I’m kicking myself that I didn’t stay here sooner. I will never stay anywhere else when I visit Charlottesville. This place is fantastic. This is an older property with majestic trees and beautiful landscaping. The property went through a major renovation and the results are beautiful. But what sold me on this property is the service and the restaurant. The food is fantastic and the servers treat you like family. The front desk has been extremely helpful. I loved this place so much that my wife joined me for the weekend and decided to stay through the following week. I had a small maintenance issue with my AC and the maintenance team responded immediately at 11 pm at night and took care of it right away. I’m a consistent weight lifter and the resort has a great gym and both indoor and outdoor tennis courts. But once again — it is the staff and the exceptional food that has my loyalty. Big thank you to the team at boars head for ensuring my stay was comfortable and positive.

Not recommended. The check-in although executed by kind personnel is very slow. Came with my baby and plenty of luggage and reception was indifferent about it. The installations go long in the tooth, my room smell funny and had bugs and got switched to another one. New room was clean but still had non functioning curtains, again old. Mobile signal is very poor (at least with T-Mobile) so had to use the room phone and they charged me like $15 in long distance calls to Gainesville Virginia. If you are in the middle of nowhere dont be rude with phone services. The spa entrance is not included in the main fee nor breakfast, so why bothering booking this expensive hotel? For $270-350 per night plus many other fees you should expect way more. The restaurant is good though, only one available in the whole place but craft beer is delicious. Alternative bars are recommended. Lake is beautiful. Again most people are trained but bad ancillary revenue strategies ruins the experience.
