Great service and nice music. The fried chicken and waffles was good. The shrimp and grits...not so much. The shrimp were overcooked and the overall dish was unseasoned.

Waitresses were very nice! Prices were a little too high for what it’s. The manager ...wow! The disrespect, very unprofessional and it’s not acceptable.

DIRTY bathrooms. People sitting on sofas with their shoes on the seats. Lots of people. Probably too many for the current times. Small TVs. I wont be back.

I was dissapointed there were only 3 real food trucks... That said I got a Strawberry Funnel cake. It was incredible... Scoop of ice cream in middle... Wow.... Also have other tents set up, like the Drizzle Balloons... What a cool idea...

Nice but a little over priced in my opinion. They are proud. I do enjoy myself here but then once I leave think to myself, I couldve gone somewhere else and gotten more for my money. Overall though this is a nice place. And really nice people.

This is a bar & lounge. BE AWARE! Apparently this is a cash only or card with chip reader only bar. (NO SIGNS POSTED) The manager stated she was too lazy to read their register instructions to learn how to submit manual transactions. SO PLEASE BE AWARE: If your card does not have a chip reader they will point you to their atm where it is a 5.00 service charge. Bartender: Throws away your receipt and demands the merchant copy with no offer to print it. Nasty attitude she was terrible.Food: AMAZING! The chicken was cooked to perfection and well seasoned.Servers & Floor Runners: Never see them. Oh wait...you see them when they come out with V.I.P bottles and thats it. I was in V.I.P. and rarely saw them.

I am relocating to Charlotte, so this was my first time at Recess and it definitely wont be my last...I had an Amazing time...Food was great, drinks were great and the best thing of all was our waitress/superwoman, Codi. She was absolutely amazing. If you could clone her, Id take her with me. She went above and beyond and made us feel like family. She is by far, the best waitress I have ever had anywhere and Im not exaggerating either. She was awesome. Will definitely be coming back again and again!!!

Unfortunately I step out to support my bro for his birthday and the female In charge of booking sections mishandled me and my circle. Very rude when we’re only here to spend money with y’all.

The bartender acted bothered by your presence, they told us food would be 15 minutes and it took over an hour, they ran out of chicken wings($12 for 4 wings btw) and mozzarella sticks which was all they had on the short menu, the couch was covered in ants, the waiters sat on their phones, the floor feels like its covered in grease, theres paint missing on the walls, theres outdoor furniture and cleaning supplies scattered all over the place and the bathrooms were disgusting. Avoid this place.

I went during a brunch party called I Still Love The 90s with a live DJ. Overall, this place has a good atmosphere with nice lounge sofas to relax on.

I came here with my child yesterday because it was posted on Facebook that Santa would be ther with gifts for the kids only to find out by the manager that it hoax. I was genuinely disappointed and heartbroken for my 5 year old because we are having hard times right now and I just wanted to brighten her spirit. The staff was extremely friendly though...

The drinks are strong and the vibe is cool. The food leaves a lot to be desired. The wings were basically flavorless, and the shrimp and grits were lumpy. If youre coming to drink and be sociable, Recess is a 4-star. If youre coming to eat, then its a 2-star.

The ambiance was absolutely electric. The pull pork cheese fries were uniquely flavored and the wings are some of the best in Charlotte. The games are a nice touch to an already awesome bar experience. Its definitely a place to put on the list as an every week watering hole...

I came to Recess and was serviced by a waiter who I ordered a hookah and a drink for $25 when I received receipt I gave the waitress $40 as I’m waiting to receive my change ... she never came back. When I approached waitress on my change. She proceeded to tell me I only gave her $25. Spoke to manager and she acted as if she couldn’t do anything about it. Be careful when you come here. Bad customer service.

I attended a Sunday afternoon event at Recess to celebrate my nephews 21st Birthday. They offer a fun environment with life size Jenga and Connect 4 games, TVs, hookah service and an outside patio. The bartender definitely makes the drinks with love...meaning, they are not watered down.

Needs work, speakers need to be replaced sound wasnt that good. Mens room needs work. Other than that .

Terrible experience overall. The staff was rude, disrespectful, unprofessional, and tasteless. They overcharged our group and when asked to speak to management, all of a sudden everyone was the manager or part owner but nobody could manage or own the situation. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone that has experienced a premium club experience because you will not get that here. The VIP sections are cheaply put together and crammed together in this small hot building. Everything was overpriced for the quality. Music was blah, if you are a professional that is 30+ this probably isn’t they place for you.

Two bartenders all night I been here a hour and still haven’t got a drink.... the crowd is minimal and music is average..... wore a 400 dollar Gucci headband security made me take it off twice but people next to me wearing fitted caps from 1985 lol.... walking out now smh

Recess is always fun any night of the week. It is a casual hang out spot for adults with games and good drinks. The music is always good and people go to have a good time.

Nice place. Drinks were a little expensive and there was cover (even though not advertised on the flyer). Cool environment on Fridays. Came at 12:30 and the DJ had left for the night. Still good music & fun games available. The place has a kickback environment. I wouldnt usually pay a cover to go to a kickback & play cards. Nevertheless, it is fun environment. Next time Ill come prepared with more money.

Great vibe, fun times playing games for grownups like giant Jenga and giant Connect Four with a tasty Moscow Mule (my personal fav) in hand. It looks like they post daily specials on a little whiteboard. The wings are pretty solid, but you really want to be there when Chef Lito comes through. If you go maybe well end up playing together!

The concept behind Recess is solid, but the execution isn’t quite there yet. It’s a place with identity issues...is it an adult playground (there are lots of games, skee ball, pop a shot, etc)? Is it a club? Is it a restaurant? There’s a lot going on here. I’m not sure who the target clientele is either. All that being said, the staff/service is fantastic, and the place itself has a lot of potential. I’ll definitely return and encourage others to check it out. Belmont is a wonderful neighborhood, and the local businesses contribute to that. Advertising and promoting Recess through all the social media channels would certainly help. People simply don’t know this place exists right now.

I was in town for a Panthers game and wanted to find a local spot to chill on a. Saturday. I pulled up my FB events section and The Recess had an open invite. The Recess reminds me a chill place in the DMV or the ATL. Overall nice vibe, music playlist was awesome and The Recess felt welcoming for out of towners. The reason for 4 stars... the floors were a sticky, the couch seating system works if you have a group who knows each other...but I doubt strangers want sit together on the larger 3 -4 person couches. The coffee tables were too low for comfortable food consumption. (Recommend little higher tables.) Lastly.... the drinks were a little pricey.... two mixed drinks $24 before the tip. I see so much potential and look forward to visiting again if the Panthers make the playoffs.

I had an excellent time at recess. I went there to an African festival. There were a lot of entertainers there and the people were very friendly and assisting you and getting around.

I visited this establishment for Game Night. It is smaller than I expected and there is hardly anywhere to sit. They have couches, but they are reserved for people who are purchasing bottles of alcohol. The only good things were the rum punch, wings and fries. Only problem with that is you order food and there is no place to sit and eat. I was disappointed, and I would not recommend this place for a night out.

Great establishment for brunch or gatherings with family and friends. Lots of games, with bar and adequate indoor and outdoor seating. You can also book the venue for private events with full catering.

The website says they offer swings, 4square, tetherball and outdoor activities, but when my friends and I went to check it out we were beyond disappointed. There was 1 pool table and some couches. There may have been a few games but nothing that was listed on the website that made us excited was there or available. Absolutely not worth the trip. Over priced drinks & the staff looked bothered that we were there

When we got there around 8:30pm we were told that the white section with the colorful walls were first come first serve. Later on in the night about 11pm we found out that another group purchased the two sections we were in. I wish the bar tender or whoever is in charge of the selling the sections would have approached us to let us know the details had been sold versus allowing the other patrons to approach us. The wings and fries were also overcooked. For those two reasons, I rated them a 2. The bar tender was friendly.

They could decorate a little more. Simple concrete floors inside combined with the outside look of the building make for a kind of BLAND ambiance otherwise nothing spectacular but ok overall. Could pave their parking lot too gravel lot is so 20th century.

Just found this place by accident. Incredibly cool staff, delicious drinks, great food, and one of the best games-hangout spaces in Charlotte. Fishbowls for $20, creative vegetarian-friendly menu, and multiple TVs just add to the draw.

I stopped by Recess yesterday on my way home, ordered (2) Tempura Shrimp Tacos, an order of chicken wings (8) and an order of Truffle fries. 20 minutes later when paying for the order I realized that they forgot the Tacos, no apology and no remorse. Very surprising when I paid $19 plus for (8) wings and a few fries! Asked for the wings to be as hot as possible, they were the opposite; very mild. Overpriced food and service that needs to be improved upon.
