Beautifully maintained interior and fascinating external grounds. Joe was very welcoming and kindly guided us through the chapel and some of the history. Would definitely recommend a visit. It also would be a great location for a wedding!

Visited the cemetery on haunted tour and came back the next day. Unlike any cematery Ive ever seen before. Hauntingly beautiful. The interior of the church is strikingly beautiful as well. Original church from 1700s, but renovations and changes throughout the decades. Highly recommend a walk through both.

The Unitarian Church on Archdale Street in Charleston is a beautiful and historic church in the middle of everything. This church is very open and inviting and offers a warm welcome to anyone that wants to come in. I liked learning about the history of this church and was surprised at how long it has existed. I really like the interior of the church and all of the colors and architecture that it provides from the cool carpet to the bright stained glass windows and the ceiling and arches. I also like the outdoor area and the walkways and paths and landscaping. I have had a really positive experience every time that I have been here.

My new spiritual home and community where I can find like minded people and be accepted for who I am. I can bring my whole family and not have to worry about the many religous and spiritual differences, because a are welcome here. Its a gorgeous santuary ran by wondeful people. I would recommend this church to everyone who was looking for a spiritual sanctuary.

Didnt go in. walked the cemetery for an hour. devastatingly alive place.while snapping the steps of an open heart photo, a straight white man is saying to me... i will not put solar panels in my house. i do not trust them. i refuse to have the sun worshippers use their devil work on me. its a walkie talkie with the dark. the bible is clear. beware the wolves for they will come in sheeps clothing.all in all, a huge success.

Oh wow! This was a part of the Ghost Tour. We went in and we spent a good 15 minutes inside the graveyard listening to a story that will certainly shake you up a bit. The photos of what has been captured in that graveyard do not seem worked on and that made the experience all the more spooky. The graveyard is not attended to and the plants grow wild and many headstones are hidden deep under the foliage but apparently the oldest one there that you CAN see dates back to 1792!Spooked much!

The Unitarian Church (also known at Unitarian Universalist Church) on Archdale Street is a beautiful, historic church with stunning architecture. The graveyard is fascinating to explore. People here are super nice, warm, and friendly. They have a open, accepting philosophy to all people. The stain glass windows are impressive. For Sunday service, you can park for free in the nearby Queen St garage. Just bring your flyer from the service, scan the barcode on the way out, voila! After the service they have coffee at the nearby Gage building. Interesting fact, Gage was Southern pioneer of the ice business in the 1850s (before they had refrigerators haha). Check it out!

I had a highly positive experience here. While passing through the Charleston area, I attended a Sunday-morning service at the church, and it proved unexpectedly wonderful. The building was, first, somewhat magical in itself, being a historically majestic structure rising from the heart of the old town, with wooden pews and stained glass and creaky floors. The congregation was friendly and respectful; the music, heartening and uplifting; the program in general shone with thoughtfulness and spirit.Though, enjoyable as these details were, what truly touched me that day was the message. Delivered by a kindly older gentleman (and with what I sensed to be great sincerity and compassion), it concerned a subject dear to me: the positive, non-egotistical practice of self-love, and the many, far-reaching benefits it provides to everyone around you - which, as it were, happened to be exactly what I needed reminding of on this particular morning, for several reasons. (What an interesting coincidence ...)Afterward, I left feeling nourished in soul, and with renewed confidence in certain key beliefs of mine, in a rare and powerful way.For my glowing experience, I would like to express my deep gratitude to all at this church. Please, continue with this most important work of yours.Sincerely,Mr. Christopher St Paul

Cool architecture and an awesome graveyard combine to make this a must visit destination on any Charleston tour. The graveyard feels like a lush jungle labyrinth as you walk in, and its easy to get lost among the foliage and tombstones. Come at night for maximum spookiness.

The major problem with the UU church is their tonedeafness. They try to be inclusive, but its for the wrong reasons. Its to raise their ranks and feel good about themselves, while not actually knowing or caring about what the outside community truly needs.I was already an outsider when i joined the UU church, because I was poor and uneducated. Its a fact that most UU attendees are upper middle class, white, liberal, and highly educated.2 out of 4 aint bad, right? :/I decided to visit this historic church while in Charleston. Its the summer, so I knew it was going to be a lay speaker instead of a minister. So it was a lady talking about Habitat for Humanity. OK, cool.Yeah, no. She was a rich lawyer who quit her job to head the local Habitat instead. She made a huge selling point out of the fact that it was people like us who are a major part of our community, like teachers, EMTs, etc, that got houses built for them. People who already make 40k+ a year and helped out, but just couldnt afford a home in an area where a 1 bedroom apartment goes for $1600/month.GOD FORBID that a fast food worker get a place to sleep at night. OH NO, Habitat for Humanity isnt for those FILTHY POORS but for fine people like us who just cant cross the threshold! She talked about how humbling it was to be able to help families whose kids, THE HORROR, OMG, NEVER HAD A SPRINKLER IN THE BACKYARD TO RUN IN DURING THE SUMMER.I lived in apartments my whole childhood and didnt know i was that bad off, but now i know i was truly deprived because i didnt have my own sprinkler.Im honestly disgusted that I took my friend whod never been to a UU church to this. The WHOLE thing was oh no, dont worry, were helping out people just like us, and can still get our brownie points! The only reason I didnt give it 1 star is its historical architecture and overgrown cemetery. So if you can get a tour without going to the service, go for it.I just hate places that are hypocritical. They openly advertise that theyre inclusive of everybody, white, black, straight, gay, trans, rich, poor, but they make it quite obvious who they are preaching to, then are surprised when the minorities dont flock to it?? Ive been going to UU churches for over a decade now, but Im done with it. Ive been to almost a dozen UU fellowships, and they almost all do the exact same thing.

The interior of the majestic bldg was worth the visit. On the downside I was looking for a similar experience to that I experienced at the UU Church in Boston, whose building may have been erected in the 1600-1700s I believe, and this local church was founded by Ralph Waldo Emerson himself. The ideas expressed there were inspired, inclusive, intellectually stimulating, and spiritually avant garde and highly liberal. To my disappointment I found the Charleston UU church service embodied that of any Christian denominational church with the exception being the non-Christ centered lyrics of the hymns, and the sermon content aimed exclusively at debunking tenants of Christian faith; this was not intelligent and respectful inclusivity, but another example of exclusion.
