Worth a visit--especially with the combo deal with the museum. This house is not what it used to be, but much better than the terrible fate that awaited it. Thanks to the efforts of the preservation society, we have this house to enjoy. Most of the furnishings are not original but are period appropriate. In my case there was an overview of the history and then we were free to wander around and ask more specific questions. The staircase is something to see.

Historical house originally built for a rich planters family survived many owners and multiple attempts of demolition. The original décor is recreated nicely and the curators collected an impressive set of period-correct furniture and dining table dishes. The guides are very enthusiastic and knowledgeable

I enjoyed the tour quite a bit - our tour guide was outstanding and had a wealth of knowledge to share with us. She knew about every piece inside the house, and was able to give an insight into what the daily lives of the owners. I wished that the original kitchen and stables were still around, but we learned that portion of the property had been sold some time ago.

Really enjoyed visiting this house. Again, if you are a history person this is a “must see” home. To hear about all the changes this house went though over time and to top it all off it was saved by these two woman who were trying to save pieces of history.Would really recommend to go with a group of people.I have never seen a house without a bathroom lol. You will have to see what they used... unbelievable!

It was cool to tour such an old mansion but the building is in much need of some TLC. I did appreciate the tour guides knowledge on the house and I do get that era furniture is hard to find a collector pieces but it did not seem elegant as one would expect a southern mansion to be.

Its nice that they were able to save the house, and the tour was good, but for some of the historic homes this one is much less opulent and quite a bit smaller. Not as much to see.

Enjoyed visiting this historical gem! Our guide was so fantastic and informative, we really appreciated the information she shared about the home, family, and general Charleston history. Purchasing the combo ticket is an awesome idea, see three different venues for one really affordable price. In the future I would really love to see the third floor restored and viewable, it would be such a great bonus!

Its pretty and has an interesting and informative tour. While finding out about the family is interesting, they dont go into much detail on the lives of the slaves that lived on the property. Whether that is due to the particular guide we had or their standard tour Im unsure. If you are interested in seeing a non standard old Charleston home with historic significance its well worth the price.

Beautiful home, but dont waste your time or money. We went for the 4:30 tour (last for the day) and went into the dining room first and the group was so large that we were at the very back of the room and could not see most of the room or the items in it. We asked to go back into the room so that we could view the room and the furniture and items in it, but were told no that the room was closed for the day(the house closes at 5 & it was 4:50!). Also the house is 3 stories and you could only view 2 floors. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!

We purchased combo tickets to the Charleston Museum and two historical houses, this was one of them.We arrived twenty minutes before the tour began and had to wait outside for the next one to start. We came for the thirty minute tour, it was nice to learn about what life was like back then. Our tour was a bit underwhelming, but it was still interesting to see the inside of the house. If you are into architecture or Southern history, Im sure this house will be interesting to you.FYI, there were no bathrooms on property, so you will have to walk across the street to the Charleston Museum.Parking is kind of a pain in the butt in Charleston, so you will need to find a pay garage someplace NEAR here. We kept finding that these garages were full even on a weekday.

Visited Jan 5, 2017. Our main guide was wonderful. Loved her information. Negative? No time to absorb the features in each room, nor take pictures. I did feel rushed, but we were told a large group was coming in, and we could wait till the next half hour if we wished. Had we known this was how it would turn out, we probably would have waited. Beautiful home.
