This was our first time painting pottery at Clay Cafe and the day we went in was as expected. The prices are on par with other paint-your-own businesses that we have frequented. The shop was not overly crowded and everyone was wearing a mask. I did observe that some other patrons who came to paint were not given clear directions despite indicating that they had never painted before. I gave them a few tips but didn’t make a big deal. Today we returned to pick up our pieces and we are VERY disappointed with the results. The over glaze was applied too thick and allowed to pool creating white places on our projects. There were chips in the glaze, on the back of our items, from where the kiln stilts had been removed and scratches from sandpaper that had too rough a grit. I have an informed background with which I write this review, and the basic lack of care or knowledge with which our projects were handled is upsetting. Anyone who has painted pottery would be able to tell that the projects did not turn out as anticipated. I went back into the shop to explain my frustration. I was told by the employee that this has happened before and is due in part to poorly mixed glaze. Knowing that makes me even more upset because it shows a disregard for correcting a known problem. It was known the shop’s mistake could effect the art I took time to make, and pay for, but nothing was done about it. This coupled by the lack of attention from the employees when assistance was needed and unprofessional dress (I’m understanding but a belly shirt - chill but not safe in this environment) shows a poorly run business. We will not be back.

Today I went to clay cafe and I have been there a lot and if you don’t Finnish something you can save it to do it the next time you come, so I had something saved from the last time I was there that I didn’t Finnish but it has been a long time and I think they took it out so turns out they did have it which was awesome and I had something else that I didn’t Finnish too. The best part is it has been sitting there for 2 years the las time I did that was in November of 2018. Thank you clay cafe for saving my projects.

We hosted a birthday party for my 10 year old and her friends today and it was absolutely perfect. The staff was incredibly friendly, we had someone dedicated to our party, Sophia, she was amazing and great with the kiddos. Our party package came with pizza which was delicious. We were able to bring a cake, snacks, and drinks too. We brought a few balloons as well but we didn’t really need many decorations, the places is warm and festive. I highly recommend Clay Cafe in Chantilly for your parties or special family time. Best part is the kids will have a special piece of ceramic that they painted and will always remind them of the absolute blast they had on their friends birthday. We highly recommend Clay Cafe! :)

Took 6 of my children to paint pottery as a family activity. We had a fun time painting and we couldnt wait to see our finished pieces. I wasnt happy to see our 7 painted items piled into one small bag. Only 2 of the items were in wax bags and there was no padding at all. Fortunately, none of our items were broken.

I had my child birthday party there.Nice employees, reasonable price, and kids like it.By almost less than 250$ you can handle a good party for 8 kids. Of course foods, snacks, and cake are on you. There is a pizza fastfood nearby and they directly deliver your pizza order to Clay Cafe.Parking space is not bad.Negative point is their lack of space for a larger group of kids, limited to Max 10 or so for a good party.

I spent around 6 hours here painting this... container thing. The return process was prompt and there was little wrong with the glazing process except the bottom had some colors that I didnt put on there from the kiln. It would be 5 stars if it werent for the PRICE. This little thing was almost $20, and that didnt even include the studio and firing fee. I took my fianceé there on a date and it cost almost $50... for two people... to paint clay.Nice idea and you can make some nice things, but WAY overpriced for what you get.

Very enjoyable experience, I went here for work with some clients. The workers are very sweet and understanding of a lot of things, they will also hold your items if you are not able to pick them up right away!

As someone who has worked here, I wouldnt bring my family. I was told on two different occasions that I was to efficient...but if I wasnt the dipping and putting the pottery in the kiln it would be weeks before anything would be done. The manager left the store to be managed by inexperienced teens, and leaves heart medication out on A cluttered desk. One of my co-workers who I will remember fondly is named Nikki who doesnt have a fondness for children, and has repeatedly called them nightmares and a witch but replace the W with A B. And on A final note, Lisa it has been about one year now, when am I ever being scheduled again or an even better question, when am I going to receive my tax forms?

The most kid, especially small kid pottery studio weve ever been too. And weve been to plenty. The staff is super friendly and helpful and understands kids use lots of paint and colors. They dont limit you to 3 colors or tiny daubs like some studios.

So much fun to pick out your piece and paint it. I love to paint things we can use, like plates or butter dishes. They usually have a great deal with Groupon.

There was no other customer at clay cafe I walked in with my daughter and employee said we will be closing early today since it’s very slow. She wasn’t very friendly and not very helpful I can definitely see why they are not getting much business.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone. We took 34 children here for a field trip for our summer camp and Ms. Grace was wonderful and patient with all of them. The kids loved it!! As soon as we left they asked if we could go back next year and we will be doing so!!

I bought a Groupon for a paint night for a good friend as a THANK YOU present...I wound up having to say geeezzz I’m SORRY! When I got the reminder call about our date and time the employee reminded me to “TIP” the instructor. I thought well ok, this is going to be a great class! When we arrived at the store and went inside we were sat a dirty kiddy tables amongst a ton of clutter. When I asked who the instructor was a teenager stepped forward. By the end we realized we had paid to spend the night with an untrained teen...I could have stayed home for that! Save your money for a babysitter and go out for drinks !

Loved this Camp!! My girls are 8 & 10 and they raved about their days at Clay Cafe! The counselors are kind, flexible, and very artistic. The children do about four art projects in four hours (plus eat lunch). The projects are exciting, varied, and multi-medi - for example, in one Camp Day, they might do Glass, Ceramic Painting, a Wooden Craft, and Splater Paint. They also work with shells, puzzles, mirrors, duct tape, and soap. One of the best Camps ever if your child likes art!
