We love the Winery at Bull Run! My (now) wife and I celebrated our one-year anniversary of our first date here a couple years ago, making this the perfect place to scheme with the staff to plan out a surprise proposal last summer! We love the wines, the grounds (try the historical tours!), the events (outdoor movie nights this fall were a blast!) and the staff. We’re now members and can’t wait to keep getting to know the community!

Recommendation: Make a reservation for the weekend on Wed. Get the 11 am reservation (charge of $10). Bring in a bunch of outside food and enjoy the wine and weather until it really starts to get crowded around noon 12:30pm then leave in time to get baby down for a nap by 2pm (DC residents). Wines definitely cheaper to buy by the bottle. Overall the great atmosphere, with a live musician and some good spacing in the large field. Staff was friendly and very courteous.

We came here for the haunted wine tour, and had an excellent time. The re-enactment was very well done, the wine was good and plentiful, and they have some very unique stories to tell. We ended up hanging around a little longer, and they do a great job keeping everyone distanced and keeping the outdoor areas warmed when it gets cold. A beautiful winery with a lot of history and some great wines.

I went to this winery a few years ago and had a wonderful experience sipping wine out of actual glasses while sitting outside on the main deck overlooking the picturesque landscape. So I had high expectations when I went yesterday and those expectations were shot straight to hell. I made a reservation ahead of time (the winery charges a non-refundable fee for this and the fee does not go towards your purchase of wine) thinking that they were using the reservations to aid in social distancing and crowd control. Wrong! The place was packed, and we had to wait almost 20 minutes just to get a parking spot. Then, after being seated, we had to get up and wait 30+ minutes in food and beverage lines that were reminiscent of poorly designed, understaffed concert venues, and most people werent social distancing or wearing masks. And then the wine was served in cheap, disposable plastic cups and there were no crackers or cutlery with the tiny cheese platter. They dont allow you to bring in water bottles, and to my knowledge, complimentary water was not available; instead they charged $2 a bottle for water that likely costs less than $5 a case. It just felt like we were being nickle and dimed while getting a sub par experience. I know some changes needed to be made in the age of rona, but this place seemed to be milking it to cut costs, pack as many people in as possible, and charge them as much as possible for a cheap-feeling experience. Our mistake for trying to get out and about for a good time at what we thought might be a safe venue. Maybe theyll be better post-pandemic, but for now, I would avoid them. Youre better off buying Trader Joes wine, cheese, and crackers and just hanging out at home.

Really great experience today even in light of Covid restrictions. Just wife and i went and reserved a table for $10 (members get a credit for the fee)... and you get an outdoor picnic table with umbrella. Nice spacing. Folks are careful and are asked to wear masks unless at you tabke. Food was great and the cider is really nice this year. The family area looked pretty full but parents were good at monitoring their kids. Staff was attentive and enforced table discipline throughout our time there. Nice to finally get out to enjoy the weather in a safe environment. Next time we will try it with a couple of friends...

Wine is good-atmosphere is sub-par.My friend and I went here yesterday around 1pmish. We were part of the no reservation club because we did not have a reservation, which consists of a $10 fee to reserve a table (that doesnt go towards drinks or your bill). No reservations have a separate parking lot and separate entrance. We also have a separate section to sit in, which normally, I wouldnt care about. But the area we were allowed in was a huge lawn with minimal seating. My friend and I walked up with tiny beach chairs to sit in, as the available seating was already taken and during COVID times, I am not comfortable sharing a table with strangers. We were told we could not bring any sort of seating in. We went in anyways, chair-free, and walked through the reserved seating area (where there were plenty of open tables and lots of spaced out seating) to get some drinks. I will say, their drinks are good and not horribly priced. It was very confusing as to where exactly we (with no reservations) could go, as the signage was minimal and the spaces led into each other. Im not even sure if we were supposed to buy drinks where we did, to be honest! It felt very much like the haves and have-nots. Honestly, if we had just been allowed to bring in our tiny beach chairs, I couldnt have cared less about the separation. It was just very frustrating that they 1. didnt offer enough seating for people who didnt have a reservation and 2. didnt allow us to bring in our own seating if they werent going to offer enough (also, I feel like letting people bring in their own chairs during COVID times is a much safer alternative, but I digress). The atmosphere was pretty unwelcoming (most staff we interacted with were unfriendly or standoffish) and it just felt like because we didnt have a reservation, we were not as valued as other customers. We only bought one drink each - I would have been happier to spend more and help support local places during this pandemic but not after that experience. If you want a nicer experience with guaranteed seating, Id make a reservation, but for others who dont want to pay for a reservation (that doesnt go towards your bill), Id go elsewhere.

Bull Run is doing a great job of social distancing and covid-19 protocols. Unfortunately this means the food and service is understandably not as awesome as it used to be.There is no indoor access, they still have live music on the weekends, you can do a self-guided wine tasting. No glasses, you can use plastic cups or buy glasses. Make a reservation on their website for a 2-hour window for up to 6 people.

There were maybe 2 wines that tasted okay; the rest were not great. The wine is also served in small plastic cups that are prone to blowing over even while full, and is quite overpriced. While the surroundings were pretty, the tables were very crowded together as well. The worst of it was the winerys rules on not allowing water inside, which they enforce through a long security line, but do not provide free of charge once inside. Its especially egregious given that the water sold is plastic bottled water, creating unnecessary plastic waste.

One of the better vineyard/wineries around the DC area. There’s plenty of picnic tables. The view is quite nice. It tastes like cheap wine...though it’s not cheap.

Very disappointed. First of all I paid $10 for a table for 2 to be reserved. But when my wife and I came to this winery, there were so many empty tables and nobody even checked who is sitting where and we just chose any table... A glass of wine for $10 is served in a small cheap plastic cup. They should advertise on their website that the wine will be served in a small plastic cup. The staff have no knowledge about the wines. Bad wine list. Sangria is just a JOKE! We bought a pitcher of white sangria and it was a waist of $31. Just bunch of ice and water. The prosciutto and mozzarella cheese that we purchased there tasted and looked like it was packed in a dollar store. Won’t come back there again. Only plus is a fresh air, bc you are sitting outside. DON’T RECOMMEND!!

I went to the winery last year and loved it. Went today and it was horrible. One person from your table has to go to order drinks and food then bring back to your table (I get the COVID changes) but they do NOT give you anything to help you in serving yourself. Like a bag or tray. I would have been ok if I had 5 arms. The Sangria we ordered was the WORST—we had a small cup and couldn’t tolerate it so we left. I’ll try it again in the fall and hope it’s a better experience.

I have been on numerous occasions over the years and this was the first time that I was absolutely stunned at the terrible customer service. My party ran over the reservation, the hostess informed us that we needed to leave as the next party would be arriving. In the immediate area where we were seated there were 3 empty tables in front of our table and one to the back. She then proceeded to go to another picnic table and also ask the guest to leave. In my opinion as we were still drinking wine that we had purchased she simply could of asked for another deposit on the table or placed the next guests at one of the empty tables. To add insult to injury as we were leaving I then noticed that over half of the tables near the patio were empty.I will be less likely to return based on this encounter. Its also very bizarre that you can bring your own food put they will not allow you to bring in bottle water

I have been to this “winery” at least 4 times now. Each time I go I ask - why did I come here? Then I remind myself it’s the one closest to my house and that I am lazy. when I go to a winery I want slow, easy sipping wine with a relaxed atmosphere. This place is more on the level of a bar or outside music venue. I could look over these things but it just isn’t good each time I come. A) the wine is very mediocre b) fellow customers are roudy bachelorette party-bus types, and the c) search and seizure process when you get in is very offputting. Let’s go through these points: A) let’s start with the wine. It isn’t good. Everything I had here tasted like box wine. I had a few different varieties and each time I am disappointed. Secondly they sell you a bottle of wine and give you Dixie cups. So to be fair we are in COVID season so maybe this is just a temporary thing, if not, totally lame. B) my fellow customers, they are the type that enjoy laugh yelling and getting sloppy at a winery. So more of a cleanendon ballroom type, who enjoy getting cranked in their best sun dress going from their u-street haunts to a winery then get on tinder for a late night hookup C) the search process as you get in. As you pull up the security guard hands you a flyer that says no outside drinks - understand beer, wine, liquor - but they mean any type of drink - so water, gateorade, soda....fine it is what it is. People are trash and hide liquor in water bottles, and this has happened enough that they need to TSA search your bag as you get in. pretty demeaning, and not keeping with a winery vibe.So net net. This is the closest winery to dc. It could be OK with kids, and not bad if you just want to get outside. But if you are looking for a winery experience - keep going down 29 you can do better.

The wine selection was pretty simple--full tasting with included glassware, or a half tasting (I think it was 4 wines versus 9). Wines here were on-par with the region, in my opinion. From those who have visited with regularity, it seems like they always have the same types, and theyre consistent (kudos, that can be hard). Bull Run is a great Northern Virginia winery with plenty of seating and beautiful scenery! Ive visited Bull Run for large group outings and for small get-togethers and it is the perfect location for both. You can bring in your own food and water which allows you to sit back, relax, and enjoy a picnic on one of their many picnic tables. During the winter they have heat lamps so you can still enjoy the beautiful scenery. One nice feature of the winery is that they have a family area, so if you have little ones you can sit there or if youre a group of adults, you can stay away from the kiddos. My personal favorite wine is the Delaney, a sweet summer white wine named after the wine makers daughter. It is a must have and I normally buy multiple bottles when I visit!

Went here with 3 other ladies for a day at a Winery. We had a blast! We were able to snag a picnic table and bring our own food. The staff was very accommodating and helpful, though all lines were long. I just wish they had more picnic tables with umbrellas, it got hit quickly! Definitely would recommend for a fun day out of the city.

This is usually the first winery in the area where I take guests.

Purchased a gift card online as a holiday gift for family members who live in the area (I live several states away and do not have access to get to the winery in person). Once I received the e-gift card, I was alerted via the gift card details that the gift card can only be used online. Called to inquire and was informed that this gift card can’t be used for tastings or tours. I am disappointed that this information wasn’t mentioned prior to my purchase as I bought the gift card for my family’s use at the winery and now they can only use it online rather than in store.

Too crowded, Overpriced wine that you could easily get at Costco served out of plastic cups, full of people pretending to be fancy by dressing up, too far out in the middle of nowhere

Been coming here for years. Disappointed they shoo parents to the back of the premises. Also think the staff can be extremely rude around closing. Love the venue and think the location is great, but won’t be coming here if customer service continues to decline.
