This place is a treasure trove of information! You’ll love learning about Casper’s beginnings and you’ll learn which of the rumors you’ve heard are true and which are not. The staff weren’t super friendly at first (could have been the masks and plexiglass that gave me that impression, though tbh) but after asking a feels questions, they really opened up and shared their knowledge about this old fort. Very cool place.

The tour of the fort was very informative and enjoyable. The employees at the visitors center were friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. The history of the fort and the surrounding area is very interesting especially the tie in to the MormonTrail.

Fort Caspar Museum is a good place to go to learn about Caspar Collins. There are actual army dwellings here. They have put things in there that would be there at the time. There is a play area outside that has a couple slides and swings. You can bring a picnic lunch. There is even a place you can pay to camp here in a tent or camper. No cabins for rent however. The North Platte River is on the edge of the property and you can fish here with a fishing license. In the summer there are some activities that are done at the Fort.TL:DR There is an indoor museum and an outdoor component as well.

FUN PLACE FOR KIDS!!!The Fort Caspar Museum features reconstructed buildings, including a stockade and a replica of the Mormon ferry that operated in Casper from 1847-1849. Head inside the Interpretive Center where you can walk through Casper’s first 100 years with objects from the museum’s collection and learn about the community’s history through interactive videos.

We happened to arrive just as Rick, their curator, was opening the little exhibit buildings so he gave a little private tour to out of state relatives. They were very impressed with the quality exhibits and history. Our relatives are big history buffs and told us they have seen few museums who had such an extensive local history displayed so well and they have been all over the world. That is why I gave this 5 stars.

We started with the outside exhibits. Very cool set up. Fort looks like the guys just stepped away. Inside is cool, has all kinds of things from puppets to guns to dinosaurs. Past to present. Small fee, $4 for adults.

Knowledgeable and friendly staff! Amazing job recreating the fort. Recommend visiting here to any traveler interested in American Westward Expansion. Only suggestion I have is for the indoor museum; the Native American portion of the museum is far to small. It’s size misrepresents the amount of presence the early tribes had on the land as well as the relationship built when the fort was being established. They’re role in the history of fort Casper deserves more than the back corner of the museum, period.

This is a very good place to visit as you get to see what the fort actually looked like when it was active. It has been well preserved. There is a small charge for admission to the museum.

Indoor exhibits are are nicely designed, well lighted and kept in good order. The gift shop is well stocked, heavy on local books, as it should be. Signage for outdoor exhibits and for general comments on the area and/or local notables is very well done. Outdoor exhibits are well maintained and well stocked with appropriate artifacts. Very educational. Extremely well price - a definite bargin.

I grew up not far from Fort Casper, and Ive visited twice in the past 30 years. I continue to be amazed that such a small town has such a great historical landmark like this. The museum building is top notch, with a great bookstore/gift shop and wonderful exhibits, but the buildings outdoors are the real stars. Anyone who has ever been to Colonial Williamsburg (in Virginia) knows how it feels, wandering thru history. Fort Casper is the living history of the Old West. And if you like Fort Casper, go see Fort Laramie too.
