The facilities are clean and the location in regards to all the beach communities is excellent. Lots of shops and places to eat. For us, its excellent cycle country. Lots of bike lanes and generally flat, so you can ride and enjoy the views and the cool sea breeze.

A nice view of a very empty ocean from Bluffs overlooking the beach make this a nice Campground for RV users.Make sure you get a space facing the ocean, the ones on the other side of the roadways are more like being in a parking lot.Reservations must be made way in advance, often a full 6 monthsAt 3 there is a long line of RVs waiting to come in, so dont be early

Beautiful beach! It is a trek down a long set of stairs. During high tide there is very little sand and it is very rocky. Bring shoes. But during low tide there is plenty of sandy beach to build sandcastles and ink your toes in the sand. Plenty of nearby restaurants if you need to pick up food.

Very clean campground and beach. Still open with closure of all State parks. With “pandemic” rules if your neighbors don’t show the State won’t fill the slot. We’ve been done here 4 days so far with no neighbors on either side. Bathrooms and showers cleaned all day. Multiple camp hosts patrolling all day. Rules are adhered to. Very nice stay. All spots are “rated” for 35’ trailers. Few spots are very short side to side (width) this is a 27’ in spot 157 with my truck on the road (barely).

Love camping at S. Carlsbad SB. We had a great time again this year, even with all the changes due too COVID-19. Each site has a table and fire pit to use. There are rinse stations spaced every few cabo sites and bathroom and shower facilities are available. When I used them they were clean and I never had to wait. Showers do cost a token which can be purchased for $.50. There is a long staircase to get to the beach so be ready to walk.

We stayed one night in the tent camping side of the park with our 25 van and a sedan. both fit easily in the spot, which included a picnic table and water tap (not for RV hookup) a few steps away. The bathrooms were clean and private, although we had to bring our own soap for hand washing, which is typical. The RV sewage dump was listed at $15, but I was able to fill up my freshwater tank for free with a dedicated hose bib just past the sewer dump. The best part of this campground is definitely the view and beach access. We had rainy and cool weather during our stay, but it was still gorgeous to overlook the sunset and waves from the back windows of the RV bed. Would definitely stay again if travelling between LA and San Diego...

It was as expected so I can’t say too much about it. But no laundry in the winter months so don’t expect to wash your clothes. The privacy isn’t all there either, the bushes are dying and patchy (even after all of the rainfall this passed few months). There is a train that passes by and has to blow their horn at intersections (not their fault but just beware). Beautiful view (if you get a slot closer to the water)

Drove up for a day of site and lucked out. Brought our 35 RV and parked it overnight on the beach side for under $60! Site had a table and fire pit if we needed it, but we were just passing through. There were bathrooms with showers near our site and the grounds even have a dump station available (even to public) for $10. We got to see dolphins surfing, pelicans gliding and a seal playing in the waves the morning we woke up at the Carlsbad State Beach. What a beautiful site to visit and take the family.

Had a nice time. No train to keep you awake at night like some other camp spots along the coast. They are very strict about the 2pm check in time, same as other parks. Hardly any trees, so Id bring an umbrella or some sort of cover to stay out of the sun. Campsite is up on the bluffs above the beach. The large staircases down to the water have little benches to take a rest on the way back up. Beautiful views, clean facilities and a nice selection at the camp store. Site also has laundry room, which I didnt use so Im not sure if they take quarters or function well. Id go back for sure!

The beach was lovely, campsite was clean and bathrooms seemed well maintained. The only part we didnt realize was that it was literally in the city and not camping at all haha. On one side, you have the ocean, the other side was a traffic light and condos. It felt more like homeless living in the city than camping lol. Still! We managed to have a good time. Will go again, just not with the expectation of camping in the traditional sense.

Nice spot between San Diego and LA to pull up to the beach and relax. Website says max 35 feet. We fit a 40 footer and two cars on our site with plenty of room left for a campfire/picnic area. This is mostly dry camping though...only a few spots with hookups as with most of the state beaches in California.

Review №65

The views are great. But the costs just keep going up. $1 for a 4 minute showers that used to be free. $10 dumping waste when it use to be free. The site costs for even tents are making it almost not worth it.The car noise wasnt too bad considering how close you are to the road, but after 8pm or so it gets pretty sleepy and quiet. And the noise from the ocean drowns out alot while it lulls you to sleep. If they could just lower the costs a bit.Well probably be back, though. Its a nice spot.

We tent camped here for three nights in August and it was mixed, some good some bad. You definitely cant beat the proximity to the beach and the beautiful sunsets. But, there was also plenty to disappoint. This is a very popular campground, so reserve as early as possible. Before you book your stay, make sure you have an account set up. The first time I tried to reserve on line, it made me register but didnt save my reservation while I created an account. By the time I finished creating my account, there were no sites left. Also, log on early and keep refreshing until you can book your site. It actually opens a few minutes early and if you try to start your reservation at the appointed time, there will be no spots left. The campground is easy enough to find and checking in is painless. Theres a camp store and restrooms spread throughout the park. Access to the beach is easy. Signs indicate that no dogs are allowed on the beach, although we saw several dogs. Theyre were lots of surfers and body boarders, and we saw seals and pelicans on the water. So why only three stars? A few reasons. The park is squeezed on a tiny sliver of bluff between the beach and a busy arterial. The sound of loud traffic is constant, day and night. Make sure you get a beach side site, not road side. The park is also not particularly well kept. There was garbage in our site and the restrooms are run down. There were ants all over our site, getting in our tent. We moved our tent but it didnt help. There is an extra cost for showers, $1 for four minutes (a water saving measure, maybe?). I just expected a bit more. One last note about safety, kids ride bikes, skateboards, and scooters up and down the street at all hours. Helmet laws are not enforced and Im amazed nobody gets hurt with all these kids riding around after dark. Drive carefully!

Always a great time here with the family. Recommend trying to get a site near the bathrooms if you have kids and youre tent camping. Bring glow sticks and decorate your bikes to ride through at night with the kids, super fun community atmosphere. Try to steer clear of the market, to avoid all of the through traffic that comes and goes, the sites down near the ends of the campground are best for getting a good nights sleep! Getting a spot can be challenging, but its worth it to make memories that will last a lifetime!
