We were there after hours just walking around downtown Carbondale. Quite a bit of trash, empty liquor bottles and someones half eaten lunch. It doesnt look like the city cleans up there regularly. Otherwise, it really is kinda neat. You can climb all over a couple of real train cars. Sat on the roof and just watched people go by.

The railroad museum is open during the Lights Fantastic parade each year. Volunteers will open it for requested appointments. Carbondale Main Street (next door) may also give access to the museum, through an interior hallway.
