As painful as it is to see my daddys name on the headstone, but through my heart brokenness, going gives me comfort. This has to be one of the most beautiful & peaceful places on earth. The grounds are extremely well kept. Every time I visit, I am so happy that my daddy chose the GA National Cemetary for his final resting place.

We buried my father in law today who was a Vietnam Veteran. While the grounds are beautiful, the staff is uncaring and disrespectful. Not sure what COVID restrictions they actually follow because we witnessed staff members not following their own guidelines that were forced on us. Shameful that our veterans and their families are treated with such disrespect. To add more insult the “staff” member overseeing our service wore a walkie talkie that went off constantly through military honors. It was a disappointing experience.

My brother and I went a few days ago to bring my fathers ashes for interment. Since my father passed away in February we were unable to have a real funeral at the cemetery, with COVID restrictions limiting the number at the graveside to 10. We chose to have a ceremony for him in July at our church locally and then bring his ashes to the cemetery. The day before we went up there I spoke with the Director of the cemetery Francisco Gonzalez and confirmed that my brother and I would be able to stand graveside and watch the burial. I was also told we would receive a flag at that time. When we arrived we were told that we would NOT be able to stand at the graveside, rather we would have to watch from over 30 yards away (standing at the road). To add further insult, the crew of 6 that were working in that section of the cemetery were NOT wearing masks and were joking and poking with each other (not practicing any of the social distancing and mask guidelines that were forced on us). My father served in multiple wars across the world, was awarded more medals (including the Bronze Star) than he could wear on a single uniform, yet he was denied even the basic respect of his two sons to stand next to his graveside when he is put in the ground. The only good thing about this experience was that the government took care of paying for the plot and the stone. The biggest joke is that we were denied this basic respect based on rules that their own staff were not even required to follow.

There are not enough words to describe the solace, comfort, and peace that our family experienced during the final resting place of our beloved Son, Robert. The overall quality of care, time, and attention given by the National Cemetery Volunteers, and specifically Chaplin Perry was like placing a loving and warm blanket on our hearts.

The volunteers made a difficult time for my family much more bearable. They truly honored my father. As a veteran, a wife of a veteran, and a daughter of a veteran, I was truly touched by the respect given by everyone who served us leading up to and at my fathers service. Their kindness will never be forgotten.

My first visit to a National Cemetery.. and it wont be my last...what a humbling experience... So glad we stopped and visited for a few hours.... When you visit please that time to get out of your car and walk the grounds...read the grave markers of those who have served you and our country.. This is a very quite place... During my visit a funeral service was in process... The sound of a bugler playing Taps was heard throughout the cemetery ... Very moving... God bless all of our veterans.
