Perhaps Bostonians and their Cambridge neighbors are overwhelmed with their riches of Revolutionary War sites, memorials, plaques and the like, not so those of us that live in New York. If you love such history in New York you have to travel pretty widely within the five boroughs to get a taste and that is really all that remains, a taste, of our Revolutionary past. I visited here during the evening (hence my night-time photos) after a long day on a business trip. I savored every moment.

The tree doesnt look old enough to be the original tree. And who knows if this is the actual location but the history is still pretty cool.

When the original 210-year-old tree died in 1923, root shoots were sent to locations throughout the nation, and some of them still thrive today. An offshoot tree in the state of Washington was used to create the tree seen here. The story of Washington taking command here is only a myth.

Great Cannons. Under the tree George Washington took command of the US army. Historic place; mostly overlooked. Cannons are amazing. On 4th of July they use these cannons for a show in the park.

Not the actual elm, and the myth of the elm is a lie anyways. Kind of wish there was a better historical rendering of these facts on the site. High quality granite marker, though it lies.
