Great short hike. About 1 mile if you are just going to the tower.

Easy, quick hike. Great for kids under 5 and dog friendly. My son renamed it “Magical tower hike”. Can get pretty slick, good tread is helpful.

The trails were poorly marked, maps didnt portray trails. The tower is impressive, unfortunately it is also locked. It was a good hike.

Great place to go for a walk in the woods and yet still be just a few minutes from the downtown cafes and breweries.

My son and I walked these trails ONLY to get to the Retreat Tower. We parked at the Harris Hill Ski Jump and found the trail head just a bit down the road. This is a decent hill climb for those of us who are old, fat, and out of shape; but its so worth it. We got there around 6:30am and walked the hill with the sunrise and Ive never seen anything quite like what we experienced on that walk. The slight sunlight shimmering through the trees, the soft ground littered with pine needles, rocks and sticks. then all at once theres this tower just boom right in front of you. Its something you should do if youre anywhere near the area. It only took us about 15-20 minutes to get there and back with another 20 minutes or so just admiring the quite area and the beauty.

Lovely walk, quiet and peaceful. Took a bit of effort so wear some good walking shoes! There’s a stone house on the way to the tower, which is fascinating and a little creepy. But the best kind of creepy! We went in the early afternoon and also visited the asylum cemetery there, too. All in all, a great way to have an exploring adventure with my daughter!

Great little hike and exploration, I have done it several times, and if you keep going you will have to break trail a little bit saplings, and you will come to a road ,could be a looped driveway but if you keep walking you will come out to high street. Give it a try..sincerely carl

I was so disappointed that the tower was locked. A nice small network of trails if youre local, but Id say skip it if youre from out of town.

The Retreat tower is apart of the Brattleboro Retreat Hospital grounds. It is not open to climb but is a nice walk to on any nice weather day. I am unsure if the Brattleboro Retreat still opens up the tower. They use to open it for visitors to climb its stairs on, I believe Columbus day in the fall. For the foliage view can be breathtaking. I encourage people to explore the tower.
