This park is truly a gem. There are four distinct areas to explore with the boardwalk and levy being my favorites and each will offer a different experience every time as well as hosting different animals depending on the time of day. The kayak rental is decently priced and offers a very cool way to explore the wetland and see TONS of gators. Very early morning and sunset will offer spectacular views as well. Highly recommend but avoid the weekend as loud, screaming kids will ruin the experience for some.

The reserve is very beautiful! It is a calm place to go especially in the evening with a trail that goes in a circle, another trail that goes literally forever, and another open marsh area with a very nice watchtower. It is very family friendly and a great place to go now since there arent many people around! I gave it a 4/5 only because I was disappointed to not see any alligators, snakes, or special types of birds but there were many butterflies and amazing greenery. Definitely recommend!!

Its great to be able to get out into what feels so immersive in nature. Youre not too far from 441, so not far from civilization, but it feels like youre far I to the FL wilderness. Ive seen snakes, alligators, birds of all kind and color, deer, rabbit, hogs and raccoons. Safe to say wildlife is abundant. Its a great bike ride, great walk and theres canoes available for rent as well.

The area around the visitors center is very nice walk with great views of swamp land, honestly some of the best I have seen. Once you leave the starter area though there is not much to see its all manicured and looks nothing like swamp unfortunately. The area around the visitor center is a good place to spend 30 mins to an hour though.

Gorgeous park that is the perfect spot for a nature walk. The sounds of birds in the trees, woodpeckers overhead. The nuances of nature, being outside, taking in the sights, being utterly immersed in a world we are not commonly used to. There is also the rare chance of spotting a gator relaxing just beneath the boardwalk or off to the side taking in sun. Nature is one of Floridas best attributes, and it does the body good to explore it and appreciate it.

Loxahatchee is a fantastic nature preserve. The abundance of wildlife is impressive. This property is owned by the state of Florida, though it is leased long term by the Federal Government. This is where on any day, one can count on spotting wild Gators living in their element. Arthur R. Marshall is a part of the River of Grass or Everglades. The reserve is enjoyed by all. Some places are but short walks. You can drive on the pavement to various parts of the refuge. Trails are both wooden walkways whom even those who are handicapped to the fit, any level will enjoy. The enclosed walkways have signs along the way telling of what you see, and its history. Then to dirt roads which encircle parts of the park. You can rent or bring a canoe or kayak and boat. The breathtaking beauty is found down every path. I suggest that you stop at the welcome center which is located just past the small entrance building. Upon paying your entrance fee to take an immediate right. Their volunteers will help you with everything from seasonal suggestions and a map. They have a wealth of information and can tell you what visitors are reporting throughout the oasis in the midst of the suburban sea,.If you choose, while just on the edge of the reserve, a dirt road runs along the C-14 canal which is almost a guarantee to seeing gators. I suggest if this is your first visit, bring a camera as you wont be disappointed. Leave everything as you have found it, taken nothing away. Be quiet and listen, look all around. Ive seen people on their phones who report nothing, to others pointing the way to a magnificent spot where wildlife has congregated. This describes a recent experience, on the same day and trail. As people as they pass going in the other direction to what they have seen as they are often the best guides. That is unless its someone jabbering away on the phone or looking down and playing a game, rule them out.

Ive lived in the area for 20+ years, but this was my first visit to the Arthur R Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. It wont be my last. In fact, I purchased a year long pass because there was so much more to see and experience than can be afforded by a single visit. This time around, my wife, daughter and I went to the visitor center, went on the boardwalk, and explored a bit of the surrounding area. There is so much to see and we plan to come back with bikes to get the full feel of things as well as picnic at the various pavilions. The cooler weather makes it the best time of year to visit to avoid both the heat and insects, but we still saw a lot of wildlife from gators to birds to insects and lizards. In fact we happened upon a vulture that was enjoy a snake snack (red racer). The visitor center has great exhibits and the staff is friendly and helpful. I cant wait to go back and immerse myself in nature once more.~ Kort

What a marvelous way to spend a couple of hours out in nature with family and friends. You can witness many species of birds and reptiles while in the park. Parking was an issue. We had to wait for an available spot and thats why the place received 4 out of 5 stars. For someone who is highly allergic to bees and wasps, I appreciated the signs. I was comforted by the fact that no bees or wasps wee visible today but it also isnt the season. Go out and have some fun

Gorgeous park to come out and enjoy a nice walk. Grasshoppers are super huge and can be a bit creepy to those who are not accustomed to insects and their existence. Loxahache is a federally run experimental area divided up in many sections. This allows researchers to change the environment in some of the areas predicting what will happen to the Everglades if these changes come through. The area is a magnet for wildlife of many kinds. The birds are the most visible and they attract many birdwatchers who will find an abundance of species.

Great nature facility! Well worth the ten bucks for access to parking and grounds; free for Seniors with National Parks Pass. Informative guides (ours was Lowell) present examples of all kinds of foliage, explanation of the history of the land, the animals and the native population. Access road intersects in several places beyond the main nature center where there are trails. Main road ends at Everglades wetlands where there are trails along the levees and a place to rent canoes and kayaks--but be careful of alligators if you choose to row around...they ARE there!

I recommend you asking for their binoculars before the visitor center closes at 4:00. Close to the park theres Bedners Farm Fresh Market that is also an enjoyable place.
