I’m new to the area. I deliberately researched black-owned galleries for art framing services. I found the gallery and was impressed with the venue. Unfortunately I had a horrible experience. I ordered framing and was told verbally that due to the Pandemic the order would take 3 weeks to complete (on the receipt they wrote 3-4 weeks to complete). In the fifth week, I contacted the gallery to get a status update. I was informed that they weren’t aware of the order status and I would receive a call back. I waited and upon not hearing from the gallery, I called back. I was told that they still didn’t have info, but the piece should be ready to pick up during the coming weekend. I was assured that I would receive a call to let me know when it was ready. On Saturday, I was in the area and decided to check on the piece. I was told that the piece wasn’t ready and would take another week. I wasn’t offered any compensation or apology. I was only offered excuses. I was told that I can take the piece back for a full refund. I wanted to continue supporting the gallery; however, due to the poor service, I decided to take my piece elsewhere. The service was very disappointing. All businesses must uphold a certain level of customer service, especially black-owned businesses. Poor customer service makes it difficult for consumers to trust and reduces the number of return visits. I don’t think that I will visit or do business with the gallery in the future. We must do better.

Amazing art. Amazing space. Great jazz was playing in the background. Oh, and they also do framing. I was greeted warmly by the beautiful co- owner Jackie. She gave me time to take in all their engaging pieces and answered my questions. They feature sculptures from Africa that are just breathtaking! Overdue Recognition stocks nice selection of art and African American history books. I bought several books to give as gifts that were affordable and elegant. Be prepared to spend hours here...if they added a small cafe, I could post up here for hours!

Very nice at gallery. Have some nice pieces. They also have prints you can buy at a reasonable price. The lady in the art gallery at the time was very pleasant. I hope this small business can last the pandemic. You can also host small events there, but that is at a halt due to Covid-19.

I visited a small Bowie -artist of color art gallery that beautifully conveyed to my hands and eyes to focus and feel the two art-stories of two peoples some still in Africa some our current countrypeople of African color. The displays seemed to me to be about strength and a healing progress through amazing artistic skill in sculpture and painting. The cold stone of the sculpture from Zimbabwe made me my hands quickly feel the coldness of stone while thinking about todays current world cold-hearted exploits we hopefully hope are not mean any more.

What a beautiful art gallery and professional staff. The Curator has chosen a beautiful selection of diverse art work and books. Bowie Town Center is most certainly overdue for an Art Gallery in scale such as this, so Overdue Recognition definitely fits in perfectly. Amazing!

Blown away by the art-work and frames. This shop feels like it should be in Georgetown, but instead blessed humble little Bowie. Feels like a tiny piece of heaven. Im buying two pieces of their work tonight and see myself becoming a frequent customer. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.

My very first experience with the gallery was great. The second time around was not great. They did an excellent job with framing a piece of artwork that I purchased from an island. The second time around, my husband brought in an art piece that needed to be re-matted. In the process of them re-matting our Charles Bills print, they destroyed our frame. Instead of the gallery recognizing what has occurred, they decided to put the blame on us by saying that the frame was already in poor condition initially. Recently, my husband picked up the art piece after they decided to put putty on the frame. It is such a shame that I will not be conducting anymore business with them. I will be going back to Crofton to get any additional frame work done in the future. It would have been nice to have stayed with the gallery since it is located in my community.
