Great views, and an appropriately sized museum and exhibits detailing what NCAR does and why its important. Special area telling the history of the architecturally significant building and layout. Area describing the computer sever racks/mainframe. Given that its free, this is an incredible experience to see inside this important institution.

Today I used NCAR for its parking lot and easy access to boulder open space hiking trails, as I’m sure many of the other reviews mention. While it’s always been a favorite spot, I’m sure usage has increased since boulder began restricting parking at the open space lots to county residents (jerks).Despite its quick, easy and free access to great hiking, you can’t overlook the research conducted here and its impact. The visitor center is open every day and a variety of tour options are available. The public can also access restrooms and the cafeteria.

One of my favorite places to go in boulder. i bike up there a few times a week for the ride and the view and access to some great hikes. the museum is somewhat small but has some cool hands-on stuff and is jam packed with info. Ive actually been to the museum 3 times and still learn something new each time because there is a lot to read and view. i love visiting the outside of NCAR when the weather is great and the museum when the weather isnt so great.

I took my kids here early on a Friday morning. We had the exhibits all to ourselves. They really enjoyed it. The place is kid friendly. I consider it a win when none of my kids got lost or chewed out by staff. We didnt quite need an hour looking around inside, so it was a quick visit. Afterwards, we played out on the trails. The views and the settings are to die for.

Part science museum with interactive displays and part live and functioning research center. This place is really fun if you are into learning about the science of the weather and atmosphere. The NCAR building is an iconic landmark in the city of Boulder and is celebrating its 50th year anniversary. The NCAR building is also a popular destination for hikers since it features many different trails within its property. The road that leads up to the building is a steep 710 ft climb that is also a sort of makeshift proving ground for cyclists. I enjoyed the many wonderful and memorable displays such as the one that makes clouds and you can touch and run your hands through, the one with the plunger bulb on top to simulate mainstream wind patterns and the crazy pendulum one by the stairs. Guided tours are offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at noon, but check their website to confirm. Our tour guide was monotone and droned on and on. but the tour is free. There is also a cafeteria to grab some lunch.

We toured the facility on an extremely hot day, which was a good idea since they keep it nice and comfortable inside. They have some neat exhibits, but its not for everybody. I can see how it would be great for an Elementary School field trip, but for the average Joe, it will be just mildly interesting.

We took our kids, 6 and 9, here this past week. We all enjoyed it! We learned a lot and did all there was to do. The cloud and tornado machine were the kids favorites. We stopped by the cafeteria for a snack and ate outside with a beautiful view of the mountains. The only disappointing part was the staff member that helped us in the cafeteria. She seemed very unhappy and was not friendly, but the rest of the staff we encountered throughout the facility were awesome! We learned a lot, thanks NCAR!
