Walking across is easy and relaxed despite the noise of the traffic with wonderful views and everyone was nice about us occasionally getting in the way as we heel-trained puppy. We loved it so much we rented kayaks to see the view from the water.

Public bridge connecting Cambridge city to Boston city. A walk through the bridge will give a great look of the Charles river at both sides. One side of the bridge will have a free view of the river with trees on both sides. On the other side of the bridge, there are many boats parked and sailing in the river. The bridge straightly land into the prestigious Massachusetts institute of technology from Boston city.

Nice bridge with a lot of (funny) history behind it. It is sort of long and there is some graffiti, but the view is very nice. Occasionally you will see a rowing team go by and you will see sailboats too. One problem is that motorists speed and it can get really loud, but I still liked it.

My sister bought a Groupon voucher online to tour the waterways which included the Harvard bridge. You need to bring a light jacket as it was a bit chilly along the water ways. We thoroughly enjoyed this trour as it was educational and I would recommend this to everybody if theyre coming to visit the Boston area.

If you’re in Back Bay and want to be in Cambridge, this is by far your best option as the Charles River is in the way. It’s a scenic walk, but I wouldn’t recommend visiting if you aren’t already at MIT or Back Bay.You could swim across, I guess. Or if you had a boat you could probably row across the Charles. In the coldest parts of winter you might be able to walk across, but the one time I saw someone do that there were about 10 police officers on the other side to politely tell her not to do that. Unless maybe you’re Kate Winslet or Jim Carrey. As a bridge, it’s fine. It isn’t as pretty as the Longfellow. It is measured it in Smoots, which is an MIT thing. The bridge is 364.4 Smoots. He was a guy at MIT.The main complaint about the Harvard Bridge is that it goes to MIT, not Harvard. It’s actually named after the guy Harvard and not the school Harvard, but that doesn’t make a confused tourist any less confused. If you keep walking on Mass Ave you will eventually get to Harvard, so at least it’s going in the right direction. As someone who went to Caltech I’m all for things not being named after MIT, so my main complaint about the bridge is that it’s got too many cyclists on the sidewalk. The cyclists actually aren’t so bad, it’s the people on notarized scooters and skateboards. There’s this one guy who crosses at high speed in full motorcycle gear (leather and helmet) which just seems unfair to all the pedestrians who are his inevitable target.

Motorists speed and greatly degrade the experience for walking and especially cycling. Because I feel unsafe while walking/biking, this bridge makes me want to own a car, which I dont think the State should be encouraging. Please trade some travel lanes for a better walking and biking experience.

We walked the entire length of the bridge, which took maybe 20 minutes. More than half that time was spent taking photos. The views are amazing, especially on the side of the bridge facing downtown Boston and MIT. Vehicular traffic can be intimidating and the guardrails should be higher and sturdier to prevent accidents.

Arguably the most important bridge across the Charles, the Harvard / Mass Ave Bridge is often quite busy, both with car traffic between Cambridge and Boston as well as pedestrians and runners along the sidewalks. It is a good starting point for 2 to 4 mile walks to the Museum of Science, Comm Ave / Newbury St, the Common, or BU / MIT / Harvard. Plus, its the only bridge measured in Smoots!

Review №75

Mmm well its a bridge, what to say? Its a popular spot for runners to train, and a typical benchmark for cyclists in the city. As soon as you get on the bridge, you will feel Bostons tireless wind pushing you around. The design itself is a little flawed, its sort of hard to get to the lower river level without bumping into everybody whos already there, and the impatient taxi drivers who are unwilling to yield. On the west side, you get great sunset views, and you can see MITs wacky prank attempt at measuring the bridge in smoots.

This bridge has literally saved my life. I was in Cambridge and needed to get to Boston. Without the bridge, I would have had to swim across the Charles River with cold water and near-freezing air. Fortunately, Harvard Bridge carried me safely across. Unfortunately, its lack of water-level lighting has killed me almost as many times, as I struggle to avoid its numerous piers in fast moving, backwards-facing boats. Lets call it even, Harvard Bridge.
