Went in for a lantern festival, it was amazing. Timed tickets were great idea, zoo wasnt crowded and it was possible to see many things up close. My kid was fascinated and keeps talking about the dragon lantern . Parking was easy despite few lots being full, but we had easy access from the parking lot to the zoo entry. Loved it!

This lantern show was meticulously put together and the amount of work it might have required is enormous. Everything from the music, to the lights, to each detail, to each color was insanely well done. My son had so much fun. It was beautiful, breathtaking and well organized. If you are looking for a fun activity to do with your family, its definitely the place to go.Excellent job!We are definitely going back before it ends.

I attended the Boston Lantern Light experience yesterday with my daughter and best friend with her daughter. We had an amazing time! The lights and animations were breathtaking; the colors were extremely vibrant. While the event was really packed, everyone did their best with social distancing and respecting each others space and time while using any of the attractions. The Franklin Park staff was very courteous and helpful throughout the whole thing. I definitely recommend this event for all to see!

Went in the fall, some habitats were closed, but the ones that were open had active animals and the habitats allowed you to be relatively close. There were much fewer habitats than I had thought there would be, but non the less fun and interesting. My 4yr old loved it and loved playing in the really cool playground. Parking was plentiful and kinda close. The park offers food(burgers and such) , but we didnt stop for any.

We have been going to the zoo for many years and have always enjoyed it, however, were disappointed by our most recent visit. Certain sections of the zoo are closed and many of the animals were missing from the cages/enclosures. They should be reducing the ticket price or letting people know ahead of time that there is limited access so that people are aware of the changes.

Currently all tickets need to be purchased online. I needed to rent a wheel chair and the woman who handled the ticket booth handled that as well. She was very pleasant and helped set the mood for a great time, even during Covid. While the zoo could clearly use more funding and more animals it was very clean and an relaxing time. Everyone was doing a great job of compliance with face masks and distance and still conversing with others as watching animals. And it includes some play areas for children to get out some energy.

We went to see Boston Lights. It was really stunning! Very nice setting for a romantic date or even a nice family event. Very creative and beautiful. They kept a limited amount of people so it was easy to social distance. Masks were worn by everyone at all times. One thing, is it would be nice if they put a light for you to stand on, beneath the big wings. That way, you can see the person better in a photo. Still awesome though. The only negative is that there are clearly signs all about asking you to please not touch anything. Yet, there were too many people touching things and even climbing the ropes to get close to the installations to get pictures. If we can take pictures from the designated areas, then why cant they? There really isnt a whole lot that we can do these days, and people who think the rules dont apply to them could ruin it for the rest of us. I would hate to see that because this is such a lovely idea and Im so happy we could go!

Small but nice zoo surrounded by a large woodland public park with picnic tables and some large open grassy areas as well. Near an urban lower cost neighborhood. With plenty of parking and access to public transportation. Many fun family events and great for younger children as it does not take too much walking or many hours to see all the animals and exhibits. Great short day trip for children and adult animal lovers. Not a shabby depressing zoo or large and fancy. Just a decent smaller middle of the road zoo for urban city dwellers and visitors.

The Light Boston summer event was spectacular, viewing every single float available. The park is somewhat large, but the day I arrived, nobody was checking for ones tickets at admissions. I took a back-entrance from the park to the zoo, yet there was no person at the gates, which was extremely odd. I came at 4PM, and they close at 5PM, which was a bit more shocking.Nonetheless, the animals seem to have much space to roam free, and if one is not willing to see any animal in captivity, the metal replicas will sure do justice as an homage to them!

I went here with my family and it was a nice zoo but it wasn’t a long day and compared to the Bronx zoo in New York it wasn’t even close. On some paths there was no animals and just the things for the Boston lights at night so was kind of boring. The animals looked good and they did a good job with being open during covid. It felt safe but this isn’t a whole day thing. The worst thing was the direction in the park it was very confusing and there was one way paths but people were walking the other way. It wasn’t very good but all in all it depends on what you like so plan cautiously.

This is a strong three but years past I gave them a 5 star rating. I have to be honest. All of the indoor exhibits are closed due to COVID, understandably. Next, they placed one way walking signs for the entire place so prepare to do a lot of walking so bring the stroller for the young ones. You might be asked to provide contact tracing information due to the virus. I saw at least two separate signs talking about animals that are on the way, so it appears that they were missing a few animals. Bring your own food and water. A small bottle of water cost me $3.50! Wow! Still it was a great day out there and I recommend that you take the kids, they will love it. I think Zoo keepers are trying and they need our support. The animals looked very healthy and well kept. 5 stars for the animal healthcare. Buy your tickets in advance if you plan using credit or debit. FREE PARKING!!! Go there and enjoy!

The soft animal sculptures temporarily around the grounds are amazing, even in the daytime when theyre not illuminated within.Seeing the live animals remains rewarding but challenging, with exhibits widely spread out & individual exhibits so large it can be difficult to make the out. There are good reasons for that, of course, but it does raise problems for visitors. Right now, zoo crowds are small, which makes lots of things--parking, entering gates, getting food, viewing popular sites--easier & more pleasant.

First off I would like to say that overall I really enjoy this zoo, and this review only reflects my most recent experience. I feel that the animals here all appear healthy, happy, and cared for.I was excited to see that Franklin Park Zoo was open, and had measures in place for social distancing. There were lots of hand sanitizer stations around, the bathrooms were clean, and the indoor exhibits that were open had attendants at the entrances and exits monitoring capacity and letting guests know when they could enter. What I was disappointed by was the lack of direction from staff on how to move through the zoo. On the website there was a map with clear directions on how to move through the zoo in one direction from whichever entrance you came in through to encourage social distancing. However, upon entering the park we were given no instructions by the gate attendant, and there were conflicting signs on fences throughout the park. There were very faint green arrows on the ground that reflected the map on the website, but the signs on the fences contradicted them and often each other. (Its possible the signs on the fences were intended for the after-dark event that is currently happening, but there was no one to ask.) We did our best to follow the arrows where we could see them but it was apparent not everyone visiting the zoo could see them or was made aware of them. It would have been helpful to have staff at forks in the path directing people which direction to move in.Overall my boyfriend and I did enjoy our visit and we were glad to be able to support this zoo.

Some areas are closed, but there is still lots to see. It was a nice day, and wonderful to have an outdoor activity to do. Lastly, the lion was roaring a lot today, which was exciting to hear and see. I look forward to going again soon to see the lanterns at night. They looked beautiful even during the day.

Had high expectations for this zoo but it was such a lackluster experience. It was really cool seeing all the giant animals for the light show but we only saw about 5 real animals...and the ones we did see did not seem happy at all. In the lion enclosure a lion seemed as if he was drugged just laying there with his tongue hanging out and staring blankly at us. There was also no direction from staff on how to social distance or avoid others on the walking trails. Would not return to this zoo, very disappointing experience.

Located in Franklin Park, the zoo is in a lovely location (Im sure its stunning in the summer and for the fall!). Its a relatively small zoo with big draws being the lions, gorillas and giraffes. It is a very old zoo and you can tell the oldest exhibits- from the look of it, I think they are trying to do as much renovation as they can while its quieter in the winter months but some enclosures could do with some tlc. During the winter- not all of the animals and exhibits will be open/on display so if you have a real favorite its worth checking before you visit!I felt the entrance fee was fair however the cafe and gift shop were really quite expensive for what you get. I think given the history, the gift shop would be such a good opportunity to really have personalised, local giftware as opposed to mountains of plastic and beanie babies. That said, looking at the keepers that I saw- they all seemed engaged and passionate in what they did and willing to answer any questions from the visitors!

What isnt too love about this zoo? My partner and I spent HOURS here over the summer getting lost in all of the beautiful attractions and looking at the critters. The bird cage was one of my favorite places, especially with the bird seed lollipops they give you to feed the little guys. The zoo was WAY bigger than we thought, because the zoo map made it look pretty small. Parking was super easy and convenient, and we arrived just after opening, so we made it inside in less than five minutes of arriving at the gate. The animals looked healthy and well taken care of, and all of the enclosures were well kept and clean. The goats were a bit tired due to the 80 degree heat, but the ice cream booths and AC in the shops made it a nice experience for the two of us. The gift shop was quaint, and not as expensive as youd expect for a Boston attraction. We left with some cute souvenirs, and the lunch there was excellent and had very large portions. Enough for two people to share one meal and still have too much food. The only downside was that we arrived too late in the season to see the butterfly enclosure, but the rest of the views made it all worth it.

Animals were great as always but the experience was a bit frustrating. The arrows on the ground were hard to follow so no one was abiding by the covid restrictions. This was added to by the fact that signs with arrows contradicted the ones on the ground. Perhaps if a staff member had been there to enforce the direction a little bit it could have been a bit less confusing and people wouldnt have walked around like they didnt care. Additionally frustrating was the fact that the butterfly enclosure was void of butterflies but the signage looked as if it was open so we wasted time to go through the exhibit for no reason since we were trying to follow guidelines and not turn around where we had come from.
