Although she is a bit in the shadow of Old Ironsides, the USS Cassin Young was a great, informative visit of this historical icon. Staff was nice and punctual when it opened. Would definitely visit again.According the NPS, she engaged in seven Pacific battles in World War II, survived two Kamikaze hits, and served another full decade beyond her expected lifetime

Awesome ship right next to the USS Constitution. After touring the Constitution I was walking around and heard a tour being announced for the Cassin Young. It was free and took walk ins. I decided to take the tour and it was awesome. The tour guide took us through the ship and was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Parts of the ship are accessible to those not on a tour, but I highly recommend taking the tour. Great way to spend an hour or so learning about the history of the ship and the wars it took part in.

Free. Pretty neat experience to go on the ship. There are free tours if you have a 45 minute commitment. If you don’t take the tour all you get is the top deck. There is a 20 MM anti aircraft gun you can grab ahold of and feel what it would be like with a Japanese plane coming in.

At the Navy Yard in Charlestown lie the USS Constitution and the USS Cassin Young. We got there on a lovely crisp fall day. It is a beautiful sight worth a visit. Both ships can be entered (after security inspection). You can also get a water cab to the North End, and there is a small bar overlooking the water. The Navy Yard is on the Freedom Trail, making it very easy and convenient for tourists. I can highly recommend the Freedom Trail and the Navy Yard, followed by a water cab to the North End for a wet lunch.

I have never enjoyed a tour of anything as much in my life. Bob, our guide, was very knowledgeable and a true gentleman. The USS Cassin Young is a time capsule and will transport you back to the 1940s and 1950s. I feel privileged to have had the chance to see around a vessel that represents so much of a great nation. It is almost sacred. I would recommend a visit.

Berthed opposite the USS Constitution the USS Cassin Young is also free to visit.A much more modern warship than Constitution. You dont need any ID to enter this ship, you just casually walk over the footbridge and step on board. There is access to the interior of the ship with rooms set out how they would have been when it was a working ship.Very interesting for adults and kids alike.

One of the ships you can explore at the Charlestown Navy Yard is the USS Cassin Young, a Fletcher class destroyer built in 1943. This ship saw much action in the during WWII being involved in attacks on Japanese strongholds and enduring two kamikaze attacks. You can board the USS Cassin and take a self-guided tour of several topside rooms including the gallery, officers rooms, captains cabin and a few others. Opening hours are 10-4pm.There was a staff person providing information on the vessel and brochures as you board the USS Cassin Young (free entry). The brochure is useful but youll also find signs around the ship describing the gun mounts and various rooms you can poke into.Overall, we quite enjoyed seeing the USS Cassin Young vessel. It is a well-preserved destroyer and a good learning opportunity for those who have not boarded and explored a military vessel before. It also makes a nice change from the majority of Freedom Trail attractions which date back to the earlier colonial and American revolution period.

Although in modernized version, this Fletcher class unit, survivor of the Second World War, is a real pleasure for the eyes to visit.Shes well maintained and prepared, and with the on board reproduction of the music and radio and television programs of those years, you are immersed on the on board life of that era (we are between the 50s and 60s).Futhermore its a must for those who, like me, have, as hobby, the naval modeling.

What a piece of history. Normaly you just read about it or see it on tv, but here you have a great opportunity to see it on you own eyes. I woud recommend to wait for free tour (usually at whole hour) - the tou covers captains bridge, antiaircraft guns, officers living quarters, sonar and many more. Good place to bring kids.

Really cool, lots of history, very well preserved. There is a person there who answers any questions you may have. It is also completely free and no to lets are required so it is not time either.Only complaint is that because it is a free self guided tour it is very crowded and can be difficult to get the full experience because of this.Highly recommend this to all people and you will find that young kids will find it really cool. Dont plan more than 30 minutes for this stop, my group made it through in about 20 and even that was a little excessive.

One of the best presented monument ships I have visited, the volunteers who help maintain vessels condition have done an excellent job.Without taking the free guided tour you are limited to the main deck which due to design limiting since much of the functions of the ship are above main deck and below. The tour was informative and covered much of the areas mentioned that showed most of the sleeping spaces, office spaces, gallery, and bridges (actual and lookout area) but not engineering spaces for no explanation (maybe not remodeled or made safe for tours) I like seeing how the ship was able to travel, provide power, and perform the function designed for. Maybe in the future add to the tour or make all areas available for both self and guided tours.Ship is best example of a ship-based museum I have visited to date with the thanks going to the volunteers pride in maintaining the ship.

This ship is at the Charlestown Navy Yard across from the USS Constitution. You can walk around the ship and go in some of the rooms. Read the descriptions about the functions of things. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable. Ask them about the ship. Great experience on a more modern ship compared to the Constitution. Well preserved ship and great experience that is free. There are great views of the city and water on board.

A nice experience. This is a 75 year old warship. Almost each and every part of ship has been maintained as original. Inside ship, you will see guides in uniform who can explain about history and technical aspects of the ship. It takes around 45 minutes if you want to see all rooms in detail.

I am a big fan of doing ship tours and the USS Cassin Young is a great opportunity to visit a WWII destroyer. Once of the nice pieces is that there is no charge to visit this boat. It is part of the National Park and is open to everyone. The bummer part is that you are only able to visit the main deck, it seems like there is more to see on this boat than just the main deck, but you are able to see the galley, the doctors office, the guns, and get some great pictures of the Boston skyline.

This is a wonderfully preserved Fletcher-class destroyer, maintained by the National Park Service. Its been restored to its WWII configuration (mostly), and you are free to take self-guided tours of the main deck. It is worth waiting to get a below-and-above deck tour as well...the guides are friendly and knowledgable. Fantastic views of the north end from the ships stern, as well. Its free, but theyre doing such a good job with its maintenance that you should feel compelled to donate a few dollars.
