Pretty views. Nice paths. No issues with footing or busted up pavement. If youre walking all the way around the lake its a nice walking distance and not many inclines. Parking lots to the West and North sides of the lake.

Good place to walk, get outside, run, people watch, bike. Not crowded. Some areas of the trail are not lit well at night so bring a flashlight, a friend, security guard, spouse, or dog(s) in the evening. Close to civilization at some points, parking lot on the north side.

Beautiful, paved trails here - and there are even separate trails for biking (outer trail) and for walking/jogging (inner/close to water), which is really nice. A few bridges, a waterfall, and plenty of breaks in the trees allow for really nice views while circling the lake. The walking trail is approx. 2.2 miles around. Two large parking lots on the west and north sides of the lake let you choose where to start your trek. Plenty of garbage cans, benches, and even a boat launch (though there are specific restrictions, so check those with the city first!) along the way. Enjoy!

Beautiful open space right outside Hyland Park. Right off the highway. You can easily make it an easy 1 mile lap, or go further into Hyland Park for a longer run, hike, or walk with your family or be alone. Absolutely gorgeous in the fall.

I love taking walks around this lake. Its a little over 2 miles around. Nice path for people walking and also a separate path for bikers. Sometimes i take my bike around here too. Theres an area next to the ski jump to park your car if needed. Lots of picnic tables on the north side of the lake. A stage is located on the north side of the lake and there are events and movies going on throughout the summer (see pics!). A great area for dogs to walk, kids and parents to do a little fishing, or sit by the waterfall with a book.

The park and trails are beautiful. Many great views and picturesque spots. The lake itself has quite a bit of algae, but Im not sure theres much that can be done to affect that. Very dog friendly as well, though dont rely on the bag stations to be full.

I love this trail for running. Its not too crowded and that helps me to maintain a good pace. The trail is around 1.8 miles long with picnic shelters around it. There is a small bandshell too and they have live entertainment happening as well. Overall a beautifully kept trail and lake park.

This is a wonderful city park with a walking trail around the lake. The paved trail is close to the lake and has open areas as well as tree lined areas. We parked in the public lot on the west end. The waterfall on the east end of the lake is lovely. It is a favorite spot for taking photos and just sitting a bit.

I know they are in the process of draining this lake to kill an invasive weed so not in its best state BUT it must be worth all this trouble, right? The paths are well maintained although winter poses a challenge for walkers as many areas are icy and I havent seen any sand to help. As I walk I see minimal trash and normally few other walkers. I like that! Id give it 5 stars if they make winter walking safer!

We live extremely close to Normandale Lake, so I generally use this as my main running trail. The paths are always nice and clean, and the view is wonderful, as well. There was a pretty big algae issue this year, but theyre going to be fixing that this fall, I hear, so thats good. Overall, its a great place to just enjoy nature, and I definitely recommend checking it out.

I flew to Minnesota to photograph wildlife without the hot temperatures we have in Phoenix. I chose a random hotel close to the airport not knowing this park was two blocks away. It was simply perfect. Turtles laying eggs, Canadian geese, mom Mallard with chicks, Great Blue Heron, redwing blackbird male keeping a sharp eye one me when I walked by his nest, Robins, what I thought was a Muskrat but may have been a young beaver. Loads of beautiful flowers, trees, insects (only one mosquito bite), and real prairie grass. With only a half day and one full day, this more than filled my camera with wonderful subjects. Beautiful place. Clean. Loved the benches to rest a bit. I am sure it takes a lot of planning to manage a lake this size and you do a great job.

Beautiful paved walking/running trails surround this lake with both open areas and secluded paths through the trees. We’ve seen a bald eagle, many different types of ducks, swans, pelicans, herons, cranes and hawks at the lake as well as turtles, fish and frogs. Our favorite are the beavers and muskrats that perimeter the lake and play in the water near the waterfall. It’s usually not super busy, which is nice, but during warmer months, families can enjoy movies at the bandshell and live entertainment during summer events. We also enjoy the firework display during the 4th if July. We appreciate MN taking such good care of the wildlife and natural habitats. Lake Normandale has issues with smelly, stagnant water, invasive plant species and algae, but they have planned out and implemented a few strategies to combat these issues. I’m very much looking forward to the summer of 2019 when we will see the results of the initiatives.
