Awesome place, lotta history there in our small County or Montgomery. Was there for a small amount of time for my profession in internet service but was still able to pull in the sights. With the great George Washington over the fire place, sets you in the time period of our founding fathers.

They were super nice here. i came all the way from NY but they where close during the winter. it was my fault because i misread the site. they were cleaning to get ready for the new tourist season so they room were not set up for tours and they stop what they were doing just to accommodate me. you dont find that these days anymore. i am so grateful how they treated me. ill never forget them. i cant thank you enough. this world be a prefect world if people treat each other the way they treated me.

A splendid walk back in history! There is a gift shop and small museum. Our guide was smartly dressed in period attire. He was quite articulate and clearly explained the history of the house and property, the use of every room, and the purpose of antique articles in each room.

Honestly there is not much to see here. There are 4 rooms on main level and 1 upstairs. No tour guide just a guy who followed us room to room

Oct 7th at 12:30: We had this so very sweet eldery tour guide that showed us all over the home. My son bought a apple pie spiced candle & 1 set of purple hand dipped candles. The place was amazing. I am so sorry I didnt get the ederly tour guides name. I would highly say to stop by here!!! And I took pics of the beautiful floral garden. And some of the building on the property. Special note: all the stairs are very narrow, typical of very old homes.

Thank you Jessica for being an awesome tour guide yesterday. My wife and I are amateur history buffs so we typically set a pretty high bar for what we expect from tour guides. You exceeded expectations. The house and grounds are very well kept and the back story is fascinating but it was your in-depth understanding of the history of the Preston family and the plantation, down to the smallest little bits of trivia, that made the visit so enjoyable for us. Thank you!

It was a informative step back in time. This is my first time visiting Virginia so I enjoyed it very much. The docent, Robert Taylor, knew all of the history of the house and was great to talk to.

I would advise anyone to skip this place if its the only thing youre coming to the area for. Having recently toured places such as Gunston Hall, Chatham Manor, Berkeley and Shirley Plantation as well as Poplar Forest, I was disappointed in this visit. The tour was nothing special and felt a bit rushed, the staff werent as engaged as the other places I mentioned. The fee for an adult, $8, might not seem much, but for what you get here the price is too high in my opinion. Still an alright place though and if you happen to pass buy I can recommend a quick visit.

Lovely property. A historical place. They have rules about being there but understandable since this house is so old. Made me feel a part of history. I do weddings on the property and I am honored each time I am allowed to do so. The views are lovely and the air smells sweet and fresh. I always have a good experience at this location.

Great informative tour and the guide was very nice. I didn’t know that so many important historical things happened there. They had a great amount of things there that are original artifacts there. They also had a nice little gift shop and museum there. I would recommend a tour. People drive by it every day but I think you should go in and learn about it.

My son and his wife had their wedding at Smithfield Plantation. It is such a beautiful venue and very reasonably priced compared to many other wedding venues they priced. Parking was adequate for our guests (150+) and the onsite shelter was very nice for the reception.

My friend Sarah works at a historical society in Louisville, so when she came to visit me here in Blacksburg, she insisted that we visit Historic Smithfield. I had never been before, but after our tour, I was glad that she was so set on visiting! Or tour guide explained that they try to keep the tour to 1 hour, which is convenient for children with families, but due to both Sarahs and my interest in American history, he extended our tour based on our specific interests (even small interests, such as my love for tea--he showed specific items in the collection related to having tea in the colonies!). The tour was incredibly engaging overall, and encouraged me to come visit another time. I have since been back for tours several times and every time I have learned something new. I highly encourage everyone in Blacksburg or even just visiting who is interested in Revolutionary War or Civil War era history to check this place out!
