Virginia Robinson Gardens is an awesome alternative to Huntington Library. In fact, I might like it better because its less expensive ($8 vs. $20... derrrr...), it has a very affordable and yummy cafe (strawberries and cream!), its less touristy, and its a little rougher around the edges. I didnt have time to see all the different gardens, but what I really loved about it was that its so sun-dappled! Its less pruned and manicured than Huntington Library so most of the time youll be walking in dirt and leaves, with tree branches hanging over you. Just how I like it. They also have several benches placed all over the grounds in the choicest shady spots so that people can just sit and relax in the cool quietness. Its hard to think of a more charming place to take your date. Definitely go in April or May when all the flowers are blooming.

This was the first estate in Beverly Hills, the private residence of Virginia Dryden Robinson, heir to J. W. Robinsons Department Store. The mansion was designed in 1911 by architect Nathaniel Dryden, who was Virginias father. In 1978 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also a California Point of Historical Interest, and on the City of Beverly Hills Local Register of Historic Properties.Today the 6-acre property is operated by Los Angeles County Parks, open to the public for tours by advanced reservation only.

I love this garden. I prefer this over the Huntington Library because its less pretentious. I enjoyed walking along the trail and just enjoy the beautiful flowers. I think it is not as popular as Huntington Library and as such it is a lot more enjoyable. I can have a nice picnic here without fear of peace disturbance that is if I stay away from the train.

Virginia Robinson Gardens is so beautiful! It is such a lovely place to walk around and enjoy the nature and fresh air. Their holiday enchanted lights event is one of our family favorites and my husband and I even got married on the lawn last summer. The summer jazz events are wonderful too. Lots to love about this place!!

The first mansion to be built in Hollywood by the Robinsons in 1911. Beautiful trees and gardens, interesting tour of the home and pool pavilion. By reservation only so very tranquil and private, like a secret garden.

This place is close to my house so we go here often with my kids. It is pretty big so we never end up walking the whole thing at once. Its got pretty cool flowers to see if you go in season and nice scenery to take pictures. It is also a good place to take special occasion pictures like for a wedding. A big tip...they charge $350+ for picture bookings, but if you get annual membership for $80, then you can do it for free!

Beautiful at night. Much better up close and in person, pictures alone dont do this art work justice. So creative and unique, no other like this, and only in downtown Los Angeles.

As a member, this has been a great place to pop in when I cant think of what to do with the kid. She dresses up and prances through the grounds like a princess, or a dinosaur hunter, and then we grab a bite at the cute outdoor café. Weve had playdates, impromptu dance performances in the amphitheater, you name it. Great imagination building stuff. For both of us! Working moms need refresher courses in play. And sneaky ways to build in workouts.

If you want a smaller and less crowded version of the Huntington Library, you should come check out the Descanso Gardens. The Virginia Robinson Gardens is a really beautiful venue for private events.

The Gardens are beautiful. It is gardens not just one.Although most of the flowering plants are not in bloom right now the bone structure of the gardens is great. The weather was perfect for the trek up and down the stair to get to the different areas. It helps if you have a docent leading your tour like Mark. He was so knowledgeable and friendly. The only thing strange to me was that if you use a cane, they will not allow you to use it during the tour. When I asked why, she said it was because of liability. Is it just me or is a person more liable to fall without their cane? You are always walking on hard surfaces, this made no sense to me. I was told I could sit and wait for my spouse till the hour and a half tour was over. I decided to take a chance, we were there for my birthday treat. With help I was able to enjoy this great public garden.

You have to have reservation to visit this place. After paying for visit (as I remembered it was less than $40 for 4) volunteer will give you a tour through the Villa and also two big Gardens. Everything was beautiful and well maintained. We had amazing time. Highly recommend to visit this place.

An absolutely wonderful place to visit. An old home from the early 20th century with beautiful appointments and interesting architecture. The gardens are amazing with many different species, well kept and manicured. Over 7 acres of gardens and pathways built on a couple of steep hills. Hard to get into so mke reservations well in advance. Parking available.

Exceptionally poor visitors policy – advance reservations required and their website says ideally two weeks in advance. Shame on them for not being open all the time to walk in visitors, or at least during certain times. As a Team Beverly Hills alum who cares about the community, shame on them for wasting a community asset. If its not their choice -- if, say, its a function of a conditional use permit then shame on the people who required advanced RSVPs. A huge waste of a great place.
