Place is a small landmark in Berkeley. Went for the first time in years to see a play put on by a local church. 2 Decor in the building is outdated. The seating and setup is out of date. It kind of reminds me of an old High School drama room. I really appreciated the art around the building collected from the years in business. Parking was very difficult because theres only a small lot for about 10 to 15 cars so you have to park on the busy Berkeley streets. If youre going to an event I would suggest you get there early to get a good Park. There are a couple stores and eateries around so its a nice place to sit people watch after a good show.

I was not sure what to expect but I turned out to be very satisfied. I had seen this advertised and I wondered if it would be worth the trip from Santa Rosa to Berkeley. Frankly, when I saw the place I was even more concerned that it was not worth the effort. But by the end of the evening I was very impressed with this talented group of hard-working performers who put their heart and soul into this performance and the venue. What they really need is what all of us can provide which is support and participation. If you have some time and want to see people working there craft make time to come to this place. You can keep your subscriptions to the fancy theaters around the bay but also share with some of these more important houses that provide opportunities for up-and-coming Community performers

I really enjoyed the energy of the show. Everyone did a wonderful job. I didnt know what to expect so I thought Id be seeing a professional play. This was definitely community theater but the spirit was everything! I would have given it a five star rating but sadly they advertised a soul food buffet with a VIP ticket. In reality, the soul food buffet was not a buffet. You were handed a tray with either 3 ribs or 2 pieces of chicken (no sides.) As a vegetarian, I count on the sides. I was forced to buy $7 nachos like they give you at the movie theater. They would not comp me even though I could not eat the food I had already paid for because it was all meat. They would be better off not serving hot food there as all the meat eaters I was with were equally disappointed with the false advertising. None of us got what we paid for unfortunately.

I was very unhappy. Ladies bathroom nasty. It was worse than an Out House back in the day. I was so excited to come to a Black owned and operated theater. Why do we as a people half present plays. The cast was short I noticed it so I am sure others did. I enjoyed it but please. I love the theater. This theater needs a lot of help. Renovation badly, it was also noted the sound system was terrible. The people behind me were complaining the entire time. God Bless you for what you are attempting to do. You need some grant writers. A grant could possibly be written for improvement to the center. I love what theater represents to not only to Oakland but surrounding areas and those of us who move hear from other states. We look up to our African Americans in CA to keep us up with what we should be doing. Thank you for reading.

Nice place to go see plays , concerts and comedy shows. The only problem is the ladies bathroom on Friday April 20,2018 went to a comedy show the bathroom was horrible no toilet tissue or paper towels the men bathroom was cleaner .I couldnt wait any longer while a young lady went to look for someone to bring toilet tissue and paper so I took the chance and used the men bathroom

I came to see The Wiz. The show itself was wonderful the actors were excellent however the theater itself was in complete disrepair. The conditions of the restroom and the overall theater were deplorable. I cant believe theyre running shows out of this building. I came with a large group of about 14 ladies as celebration of a 50th birthday, but we will not be back. Its such a shame because the show was excellent.

I saw the Wiz. They need to work on their sound engineering. Even if the play had been good, the microphones and speakers were so awful that they ruined the whole thing. What Im sure was beautiful singing was either blood curdling shrieks or mumbling. Every time someone on stage walked by a speaker, the crackling was unbearable. This went on for 3 hours. It would have been better if they just took the mikes off. It could have been great otherwise. The dancing and the costumes were amazing.

I went to see the WIZ on Saturday, 12-9-17, the matinee show, with my grown grandson who has performed in the WIZ many times, (lead characters). This was the WORST production of the WIZ that we have ever seen!!! Ive seen the WIZ from Broadway to San Jose and many stops in between and we were TERRIBLY disappointed!!! So much that we left after NO BAD NEWS and her microphone was not on!!!! It was PAINFUL!!!! We were sitting in the second row from the stage and couldnt hear nothing above a whisper. We knew where the show was headed when it first came on and Aunt Em started singing, all over the place!!!! We are a big supporter of Theatre Arts. But I appreciate seeing a show that will keep my interest and produce a quality show. The participants in the show had no stage presence! The costumes were horrible and so was the so called choreography, No projection of their voices, especially Dorothy, really, what was that!!!! When the mic doesnt work, you should still be able to hear the voices bouncing off the back of the walls!! (if youve had the proper training). There were more than just technical difficulties with this show! Please invest in better equipment, better tech hands, especially Mics, they sounded like they were in a bathroom! And for those seeing the WIZ for the first time, please dont be discouraged this was not how it was suppose to be!!!!!!! I could go on and on, but Ill stop here! Not sorry for such a BAD review, because it was just that BAD!! Someone by the name of Ismael (not sure of the spelling) stood up and said this was better than the Diana Ross and Michael Jackson WiZ, he must have been watching a very different show than the one I was attending! Refunds should have been given to everyone! The popcorn and champagne was good though!
