Around the corner is a huge area for smaller kids to simulate a grocery store, and large areas to play with dolls and most things your kid really wants. I find the atmosphere quite friendly and nice. Moms are nice, and dads try their best to endure the experience. My daughter loves this place. Highly recommended!

This is the Regina George school of theatre. Many high school students are cliquish, but the adults in charge of the program absolutely encourage this behavior, in fact participate in it themselves. We had heard this from kids participating in other theatre programs, but decided to give it a try anyway. Not many people have the nerve to speak out, but I encourage you to take heed of the few people who have had the courage to post negative reviews. There are lots of other options in the Bay Area for children’s theater.

This theatre is the best small theatre in the Bay Area. I enjoy attending performances here because it has an orchestra pit, and the plays are accommodated with live musical compositions. Primarily, seating is comfortable and almost anywhere one is seated the stage is entirely visible. It is close to public transportation and places to dine prior to performances. A great place to see live theatrical performances in my local community.

We recently saw the “Wizard of Oz” which was a charming production. For me, the setting is always the main draw. Julia Morgan might have initially designed the space for religious worship but it now serves very well for staging performances for any and all who worship both spiritually and otherwise. Many thumbs up!

Excellent theater company and performances. Top notch actors (young and old). Family-friendly venue. Musicals are always super enjoyable. Running time is about 80 minutes with 15 min. intermission. The theater sells food (pizza, hot dogs) and dessert before the show and during intermission and food is allowed inside the theater which makes it perfect for families. Again, hands down best local theater!!!

Saw the Wizard of Oz this past weekend. We had such a great time! The cast did an amazing job! I heard the the actress who played Dorothy was the understudy and I would never have known. I highly reccomend seeing the 2018-2019 series shows. Our seats were a few rows back all the way to the left and we had an excellent view. Also I was really happy with the snacks, food, and drink options during intermission. There was pizza from Extreme Pizza, varius yummy pastries, fruit, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, etc. Parking is a bit hectic since there is only street parking and this is a busy retail and residential area. We lucked out with a parking spot only a block away 10 min before the show. Some may want to come early for a closer spot. I cannot wait to go again and see another amazing show here!

Superb quality regional theatre! We became subscribers 3 years ago because the prices are SO low and there are so many perks! TOP NOTCH live theatrical experience with live, professional orchestration-- cant be beat West of the Mississippi! East Bay residents and visitors are very fortunate. The Julia Morgan-designed building is historically interesting as well. Friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere for families and the Pay-What-You-Can night/s for every show make the experience accessible to all. Thank you, Berkeley Playhouse!

Great selection of musicals. They can afford the rights to high-profile pieces because they often have one adult cast and two or four childrens casts perform each one. Westside Story: OMG! Even tho Ive been watching the movie since I was 7, and know how it tragically ends, I was SO MOVED by this performance. There were some beautiful moments when the chacters playing Maria and Tony harmonized while declaring their love. Marias vocals especially, were even better than the movie. That actress is GIFTED and should already be playing on Broadway. The choreagraphy was stunning! Fight scenes, love scenes, and full use of the set, were very well orchestrated. GO SEE THIS SHOW and be prepared to have your heart wrenched and reminded of how STUPID and SENSELESS racisim is. Which continues murdering people just because their skin color and cultures are different.

This was the first production I have been to but it wont be the last I assure you. This experience was what I had always hoped for but had always fell short one way or another. This is a true proud community theater that walks the walk. Confident yet humble casts of characters, quality plays with timely themes, and a charming venue with prices that encourage the public to experience live theater thats within their reach without them having to sacrifice a week of groceries just to afford tickets for the all-too-soon fleeting chance to personally appreciate the energy of a live performance. And as if that wasnt enough, the audience gets to experience raw feelings without any special effects to dilute or bury the message of the writers, directors, producers and dedicated actors who deliver powerful and unforgettable performances.Sorry..I went off on a tangent so heres my bottom line...go to these productions and go often. Experience a thought-provoking play from dedicated professionals. This is truly a gem in our own backyards.

This place is not new, its not fancy, and its clearly warn around the edges, but its worn with talent and engaged audiences, not neglect. The facility is much better than most community theaters in its stage setup. I dont know if they rotate stage mangers and scenery crews with shows or if they have people they specifically work with this theater over and over but they make incredible use of the space. Sometimes the sets are complex, sometimes they are simple, but they are always effective and appropriate (to my eye) for the show they support. That casts Ive seen through here are also a clear step above most community theaters. Some Ive bookmarked their social media presence to see where they go next.I like the concession stand. The cookies are really good and there is a nice selection to choose from. I do recommend ordering what you want from them when you arrive and not deal with the long line that appears during the intermission. Your pre-order is setup for you across the room so its easy to access. The only real problem with the place is the bathrooms. They are cramped, you cant even open the door to the mens room if someone is using the sink next to it. But for the rest of the experience I dont mind this one thing. In (almost) short: There are a lot of theaters in the Bay Area, and while Ive not been to all of them (or probably even half of them) I have been to many and this is my favorite. The mix of size (not too small, but large enough to hold the sound just right) and the people who put on the productions mean I have yet to leave with criticism of my experience. We left our last performance and realized that each season we see more of their shows and finally broke down and bought season tickets.
