Its like a smaller version of the Exploratorium in San Francisco. I wasnt sure where to park but I guess you park in any lot nearby. Its a little walk to get from the parking lots to the entrance. Theres great views of the Bay. Theres a lower second floor that has larger rooms for large groups. Theres also a small section on the lower floor that isnt as busy as the main floor. Its definitely great for young children about 10 and below. I was sad that the gift shop didnt have a lot of Lawrence Hall of Science gifts.

Lots of fun. We went with a 4, 5 and 13 year old and there were things for all of them (and the young at heart adults). The life size water table was a highlight. All the members of our party love it. Its outside. The craft room where we may windmill designes and tested them was also a hit. We will be back! I highly recommend it. It wasnt busy at all.

Beautiful views of the San Fransisco Bay; you feel like you can see everything. The science center is very nice got young children, and the entire visit was very interactive. You can make rocket ships from paper and test them against each other. The Planetarium where you can see Earth, moons, and planets was very interesting.

Staff are amazing hence the stars & the planatarium guide is quite nice & knowledgable! Not for adults though. Probably local hang out for kids. The area around is beautiful but you dont need a ticket for that. Planetarium gives interactive but basic shows & the noise from outside gets in. Also u need to pay for the admission to the supposed hall 16 dollars in order to watch the planetarium show for dollars.

This place is awesome. To start, youre high on a hill and the view of the bay is spectacular, especially at sunset where its really mind blowing. The various exhibits on display are usually really cool and lots of times they have interactive displays setup so everyone is very engaged including the kids.Great place to go. Definitely a must for watching a sunset on a clear night!

Its closed until Oct 11. Theres no sign except on the door, so if youve already paid for parking youre out of luck. No restrooms available while closed, and no signs of where to go, so tricky if youve got kids. Seems a little unfriendly.

I was expecting a little more, or maybe a bit more organisation. The exhibits were small and cool, but it left me wondering if I missed any. I think a map would be helpful. We were able to see the museum in 1 hour. Parking is $1 per hour so not bad at all. The view though, best part! The animal discovery room comes second.

The display is small and it costs extra to watch their 3d movie. The way they present science is dry. I was expecting Exploratorium level but it was not even close. We went in for half an hour and left out of boredom. My kids are 2 and 4. Maybe older kids would enjoy it more but really there is not much to do except various wind tunnels. The location is beautiful though. This is just my honest opinion.

We took our children here at an early age because of their fascination with getting into things with their hands.  This place offered a lot of hands on science exhibits, which both of our children took an immediate liking to and spent hours running from one exhibit to the next. The only time we took a break was for lunch, and then it was back visiting and spending more time at the exhibits.   We spent many hours at the insect zoo, animal discovery room, as well as the ingenuity lab trying to solve puzzles to answering questions relating to the universe.  The many exhibits this place offered kept the children stimulated both mind and body and by the time we left, late in the afternoon, both kids were fast asleep from taxing their brains all day.

Best place for kids to learn new things and also planetarium show was good. You can take your own lunch for picnic or you can use cafeteria. Great view if Bay Area. Staff is very friendly. Lawrence Hall of Science sits atop the hills of Berkley at the UC Berkely campus. Close by is the Japanese garden and Tilden park (also a parental bookmark!) Over the summer they host many summer day camps. There are new hands on exhibits, live animals, friendly staff and even a baby play area. We often come and bring a picnic lunch.

Wonderful rotating exhibits. Great little restaurant downstairs all complemented by incredible view off the deck. Its about on par price wise similar feature-rich kids facilities, a little bit pricey but what they offer is worth it. There is a Planetarium, different exhibits on different floors, an animal terrarium area and events. It is sometimes crowded with parking but infrequently. We love this place and a very happy that its here to enjoy.

Great view on San Francisco when not foggy. You will need to pay for parking and come early because spaces are limited. Wide range of exhibits and fun for kids but can be sparse because there are only a few exhibits in each room. Only complaint was that some of the exhibits need cleaning because they can look a little worn. Check in early to participate in the hands on activities downstairs because they all close early before lunch.

I have an 11 year old grandson and two 6 year old granddaughters (cousins). When they come to visit me, this is their first choice--all 3 of them--for a place to visit. They actually prefer it to the Exploratorium in San Francisco--I think because it is so much more informal and hands on. At the Exploratorium, the technology brings the exploration to you. At LHS, you bring the exploration to the technology. And you dont have to worry as much about ways in which you might (or your grandkid might) damage something. Best kid-sitter in Berkeley.

A great hands-on place to learn all about science. I came here many times as a kid. Some of the stuff seemed a bit on the grown-up side when youre a kid but I was learning all along. Ive been to many science museums across the country and Id rank this average or slightly below average. This place is really more like an arts and crafts museum with a planetarium and a bunch of building blocks (legos, kiva, etc). The exhibits are really outdated, theres nothing in the museum related to VR, computer science, AI. The latest and greatest is a small exhibit discussing CRISPR with a really old school game on a video screen. How about getting some AR devices?

We come here a lot, either early after opening or an hour before closing when its not so crowded. It is a very nice kids science museum, not as big as the Exploratorium but also less touristic. It has some quirks, like the awesome water play installation outside, but then kids are not allowed to step into the water. The food could be better. Little things like that. But then again the funding is tight and everyone involved does an amazing job to make everything work, especially the students from Cal explaining things to the kids, helping with the hands on exhibitions. They also come to the local schools and hold little science fairs, contributing in great ways to education. If your donation budget has still room, consider LHS. And dont miss the Dino bones in the basement.
