Sewing nerds Mecca. Excellent selection of books, patterns, and miscellaneous sewing equipment. Excellent selection of miscellaneous other geegaws. Youll have to keep feeding the parking meters. The place to visit if youre into doing period costumes.

This is a dream come true. Totally unlike any other craft/sewing/notions shop I’ve ever been to. I ended up having to put money in the meter five different times because I could not pull myself away!! From books to ribbon to antique doilies to threads and cords, the selection here is jaw dropping. I live in NYC but I’ll make a point to visit every time I’m in the Bay Area.

This amazing little gem is a needleworkers happy place. With books and supplies for pretty much any type of needle work Lacis is a one stop shop. I found this place when looking for Sashiko supplies and I was amazed at all they offered. Lace work, embroidery, hat forms, crinolines, hoop skirts, purse closures, plus every type of needle supply on earth. Not to mention a museum on site. Parking right outside is rarely full, it makes going in to Berkeley almost a pleasure!

Still curbside only but they may open before long. I miss browsing there, usually when I need a ribbon trim or a lace patch to disguise a permanent stain or a tear in a fave garment. Lots of useful craft tools and decorative items to personalize or upgrade something plain. Good for gifts too: the vintage jewelry is always worth a look.

This place is AMAZING. If you make lace or use lace in your art or craft, this is the place for you. They have vintage lace including lace trim and even full garments. They also have all the supplies you could think of... And then more! There are books, yarns, needles, bobbins, looms, beads, hardware, trim, you name it! The staff are very helpful and friendly, and the atmosphere is lovely. As a younger lace knitter who is also a dude, it was really nice to be treated as an equal rather than suspicious. The museum itself looks amazing, I was too mesmerized by the store to get more than a cursory glance through the doorway at the Pina exhibit. Although I live in Seattle, I expect to return again and again. Thank you!

You walk in to the shop - the museum is in the back. Current exhibit is piña - lace made with pineapple leaf fibers. Its amazing: you need a magnifying glass to see the knots.

Best place to find everything you need for lacemaking and needlework. They have an excellent bookstore within the shop with very a very unique selection on lacemaking, textile and costume history and recently I found a how to book for retro hair styles. If you love lace, needlework, Textile and fashion history this is the place to go. It is located right across the street from the Ashby/Adeline BART station.

This place is a gem for crafters and sewists. There is so much neat stuff to see that you should probably set aside at least an hour for your visit! I travel over 50 miles just to buy my corsetry supplies here since its pretty much the ONLY corset supply shop in Northern California. All the employees are friendly, very helpful and informative.

Easy walk from the BART station, but also Ive never had problems finding parking. Lacis is a magnificent source of craft books and tools of all types although with something of a focus on wearables like clothing and jewelry, less home dec or large scale weaving. Consumable supplies are somewhat limited, geared (as youd expect) to lace and a touch of millinery, and haberdashery. Having said that, they have the tools for everything from cross stitch to kumihimo, beading to temari. The tools range from light up knitting needles to vintage/antique bone stilettos. I think I once spent over $100 on different types of needles alone. A must-see for any crafter in the area (although shipping is free in the US, so even if youre not in the area...).
