Spencer Park is always a nice little getaway in Belvidere. You get to enjoy nature without needing to go far. I enjoy bird watching and fishing there throughout most of the year.

In a natural setting with native plants, animals and insects, its worth visiting frequently throughout the year. Each time you visit, different plants are getting ready to bloom, blooming, or winding down for the year. The tall plant is called a cup plant. The other one I havent identified as yet.

Beautiful with nice walking trails and bike paths. Lots of shelters for gatherings and benches for relaxing during your trek. Fishing spots galore and many easy access spots to the river and a large pond for fishing only (no boaters or swimmers!). Great spot to enjoy the beauty of creation. Does get some higher traffic on the weekends. Nice and clean.

Just an overall nice park. The walking paths connect with the Belvidere Park nearby, and the hiking trails offer a peaceful walk in the woods. Three fishing holes available with fishing spots along the river. There is a nice pavilion area for events along with a couple smaller ones scattered around the park for picknics. The park hosts the Autumn Pioneer Festival each year towards the end of September.

It was very pleasant for a park. It was a private party and it was isolated from others which was what was needed in this instance. The shelter was adequate for its purpose.

Because this is a natural area stocked with native plant species, visiting here multiple times of year is a must so you can get a feel for what is typically growing at any time of yeat. I grow a lot of prairoe plants at h9me. I never get tired of watching Spring leap out of Winter.

This is my favorite park in Belvidere. Its mainly a large natural space with prairie grasses, wildflowers, and native species. Its a joy to watch the change of seasons here, and watch how the landscape changes tgrough time. This isnt a swingset and screaming type of park. Its a quiet natural area. And thats what I come here to enjoy.

Great forest preserve, called a Conservation District here. Many nice forest trails as well as containing part of the Belvidere bike path. Prairies containing many native plants are great just to sit and look out over, or walk through on grass trails. Always check for ticks after walking trails, especially the grassy ones. I have found them on me before. This is the old fairgrounds from years ago, along with a gravel drive that is the old horse track. Its supposed to be one way, counterclockwise, but a few of the signs are down, so dont be surprised if some young kid or someone who just doesnt know, almost hits you head on going the wrong direction, in the gravel section.
