VERY helpful staff! I am a complete novice when it comes to art supplies, but I decided I wanted to learn how to watercolor paint and the staff helped pick out reasonably priced tube paints and other essentials to get going.

Love this store. Super duper friendly and helpful staff. Great selection. I just got a wood canvas, it’s pretty cool. They also have art shows on first Fridays.

They sell an insane selection of specialized art supplies - I was surprised to find golden paints, spray paints, and many a variety of gouache. Any marker youve heard of youll quite possibly find here, alcohol based, water based, and paint markers like Posca. Also wood panels for painting, which Id never seen in any other art store! If youre looking for more hard to find stuff, and even common art supplies, this is the place to go. And all reasonably priced!

Great staff, great selection. Theyre always up to discuss and educate on whatever at supply you might be interested in. Prices are comparable to chain stores as well.

Before COVID-19, they would have weekly life drawing classes on Wednesdays. Its really cool, because they seem to be really dedicated to providing an accessible community resource for artists and hobbyists alike. Plus its always kind of affirming to meet other artists, and Dakota provides a great space to do that.

We always check this place out when visiting Bellingham. Its so much fun, and the staff is very helpful.

Great store please support the only art supply store in downtown, but really they have a better choice then Michaels, if less ceiling room. They also have a gallery. Biggest selling point for me is the choice independent verse corporate. You get five time more community from community, then off corporate,. Go downtown so You can buy huge canvases at Dakotas

What a great store. What great service. Walked in on a mission to buy a present for an artist that I know. I had a only rough idea of the supplies I was looking for. Before I knew it, I was quickly and thoroughly guided by the knowledgeable staff to exactly what I needed.

Very nice art store! Ive purchased a number of supplies and have been very happy with everything Ive purchased so far. I love their selection of fine watercolor paints, they are just beautiful and high quality. They have quite a selection of different supplies for different needs. Their staff is always friendly and helpful. The price seems pretty average for nice art supplies but I havent checked out a whole lot or other places either. It is my favorite store to go to now. :)

When I first came into the store, I was expecting it to have all the average art supplies you can get anywhere at a bit of a markup. I cant overstate how wrong I was. They have a vast and exciting variety of nearly everything you could need. When I finally found what I needed, it was less than half as expensive as I thought it would be. Once I had what I wanted, I went to the best part of the store. The staff! The people at the register were simply delightful. One of them asked about my favorite animal, and then drew a lovely cute sketch of it on the bag for my supplies. They were so friendly and I will certainly go there again.

Dakota Arts is my number one stop for art supplies. The staff is friendly and funny. They also hire people who are artists so you know that they know the material. The prices are also pretty good for the quality of their supplies, especially with it being a small company. If you feel overwhelmed by your options just ask one of the employees and they will gladly help you out.

Friendly faces and helpful hands operate this community oriented Art store.The selection in store is wide, but not necessarily deep. If you dont see something specific youre looking for, the staff is more than happy to order it from one of their suppliers if they can. With that said Ive never left without something I needed.Students get a discount with proof of enrollment, an ID works fine, which makes some of the pricing comperable to online retailers.There is a 2.5hr quick pose figure drawing session available Wednesdays for $15 (as of 4/19) which is a fantastic way to hone your skills. It seems other classes are offered from community members, but Ive yet to take one.Lastly there is a gallery attached that rotates monthly with Bellinghams Artwalk and often showcases artists from the community.

Always find what I need there and have always had my questions answered. Wish paint supplies didnt cost so much, but hard to find similar quality online that costs much less.

They usually have everything i am looking for and are very willing to help you

Best art store in town hands down.

I am no artist but it seems like they have everything; for different media and skill levels. They even have a lot of material specifically geared toward kids. The staff is helpful, encouraging, and quick to share their various art knowledge.

Sweet staff. They didnt have a paper i needed but offered to order it. They have items that most craft chains dont carry and they have open stock pastels and color pencils. They also have a huge wall of Golden art supplies as well.

I didnt know about Dakota Art Store before many of my friends started working there, and in fact hadnt ever noticed the location until the converted Dakota Gallery drew me in. Dakota definitely has the highest quality art supplies in town, and is a great destination for any artist to get supplies.
