Theyve got the best greens.

Came here for Sunday lunch and enjoyed some seared salmon, spinach and wild rice on the patio. I was expecting the sides to be normal but the spinach was packed with flavor. Salmon comes with a nice sauce complented well with Pinot grigio. It is open to public might, need to reserve spot ahead of time for social distancing otherwise Ive been able to walk in weekdays last year. You can watch people golf in a peaceful setting. Waitresses and servers are very nice. We are repeat customers and will continue to be.

This is a very nice well maintained golf course. The fairways were good the rough was a bit rough but fair.The issue that I had was how unconventional the pin placement was on what can only be described as brutally inappropriate fast pool table like greens. Be very aware of the 3 and 4 putts you are likely to encounter.The wait staff was incredibly helpful and friendly!! Sue was outstanding behind the bar keeping everyone happy and well served !!I had a Ruben sandwich and it was delicious yummy yummy !Earl

Nice course with lots of yardage and challenging greens. Well maintained, friendly staff, good value. Beautiful scenery which seems to make it a popular place for weddings and other events

Great course very challenging at times. Greens are some of the fastest around you dont want to putt downhill here. All of the employees have been unbelievably nice and helpful which only makes your round more enjoyable. I will definitely be back soon!

The all-you-can-eat fish fry might be fine in person, but the to go portions are snack sized. I’m trying to help businesses during the pandemic, but I just got ripped off. The to go portions for all you can eat should be generous. They are not at Makray. 3 tiny pieces of fish and a tiny baked potato per dinner. The bag felt heavy because they loaded it up with a vat of tartar sauce. Thanks Makray.

Beautiful course, but the greens were so burned out and the pin placements so ridiculous that it made putting comical. A 3 putt was the norm, a 2 putt was excellent. This was a group of 10 handicappers too. But definitely would go back...

Very tough course. Lightning fast greens that putt true. Clubhouse food and drink is excellent quality. Nice patio as well as indoor seating. Electric carts include GPS yardage. Good practice areas. Friday fish fry.

Just wrapped a 5 hour round! Love the course. Challenging and in great shape and a great course with fast greens., but for them to allow this pace of play is totally inexcusable and I will never go back. That was my first time in 20 or 30 years since the old t-bird days. I’m a 7 handicap and can enjoy golf with 36 handicaps , who understand ready golf and hit the F’g ball and move along. One and done for me. If you want to wait and every shot and be tortured, then this is the place for you. Peace out !

Be nice if the rangers actually did their job and kept the course moving... really disappointed because it is a nice course... but managed horribly!!!!!

Well maintained. Tough putting. Tee box selection makes a big difference.

I have no recent experience in the restaurant, but have always had really great banquet experiences here. The other day, we had a great salad with pecans, blue cheese and raspberry vinaigrette, bacon-wrapped steak that was perfectly cooked, roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes, followed by a dense chocolate cake and some really flavorful coffee! The banquet service is probably the best Ive ever seen...timely, synchronized and pleasant.

We have been golfing, eating and celebrating at Makray for close to 15 years. Love everything about it. I wish they would turn their failing restaurant into a steak house. They could also add some live music on weekends to bring in more people. Other than that, you cant go wrong!

Our wedding day was absolutely perfect! Everyone we worked with at Makray was very helpful throughout the whole process. They helped make our day amazing and go off without a hitch. The food was incredible. We received rave reviews from our guests on the food and how beautiful the venue was. We planned on having our ceremony out on the golf course, but it was raining and it was just as beautiful inside. I highly recommend having your wedding at Makray. The venue was perfect!

Nice golf course. Both challenging and playable.

I went with friends and the atmosphere was pretty and it is wheelchair accessible. I had a very delicious fish entree and the vegetable side dish was very flavorful. Very nice for groups & located on Route 14/ Northwest Highway between Palatine and Barrington. The waitress gave very good service and really hustled to service our group of 16 people.

We took my dad to eat here and my dad kept saying “this is a really nice place!” and it really is. Food was delicious and the service... WOW! the staff was just amazing. Can’t wait to come back in the summer for golf.

I was at Makray for a ladies’ luncheon today and it was terrific. I had not been inside before and it is very well decorated, tasteful and clubby but you don’t have to be a member. Our lunch was delicious and wait staff was superior. I look forward to dining in with my husband. We are newer to the area so I’m especially pleased to find this gem.

1st time for going there, 2 drinks = the grover @ magic lemon drop , taplipa haddock with fries @ New York strip w broccoli @bake potato dessert key lime pie. Friendly the waitress polly was very good .

This is a very charlenging course, green is very fast, layout is very interesting, on weekday walking is $49, that is a good deal. would come back and play again

I managed to pick up a 30 buck hot deal, an absolute steal. Ive played many of the top ranked courses and cant understand how this doesnt feature in most of the rankings. A hidden gem. Front nine was really tough, challenging approach shots and lightning quick greens, choose the right tees for your game, back nine played a lot easier. Ill definitely be playing it again, very impressed.

Makray is a gorgeous venue for a wedding! The decor and linens are so pretty and most of it is included in your wedding package price. Laurie Hudak was my wedding coordinator, she was very attentive and addressed even the smallest detail. Thanks to the creativity of Chef Walter, our guests were treated to a decedent, scrumptious, gorgeous buffet that featured over 40 different items. Our guests are still talking about the food.The entire staff was very helpful during the planning process and made sure our special day was PERFECT!

This is a challenging course, with some very fun holes. I am by no means a good golfer, but this course challenged me in a good way. A lot of water in play from tee boxes, rolling hills, reasonably wide fairways, and some small greens. I would recommend the course for a nice afternoon round.

Love Makray. Always in the conversation when we discuss Chicagolands BEST golf courses. If you are a lover of beautiful challenging golf courses Makray should be near the top of your list.

Makray was the perfect venue to have our wedding. We could not have asked for a more beautiful location, mouthwatering food, and amazing planner. Laurie and Audrea did all the heavy lifting and made everything go smooth and perfect. They helped us from start to finish and provided us with all the options available to us. The chef was a magician in the kitchen making meals that were tantalizing from homemade salad dressing to perfectly cooked filet. The golf course was manicured to perfection and created a beautiful backdrop for our Scottish-ish themed wedding; the rolling hills, the water mill, to the castle like club layered with luscious vines. I recommend all engaged couples to take this location into consideration because it is the perfect location to make ones dream wedding come true.

Really fun layout where you have some decisions to make off the tee. The course is in great shape. Greens are fast and true. Stay below the hole whenever possible.

Beautiful course for being public. first time playing it and it is tight on most of the holes from tee to green. must be fairly straight on driver for 70% of the holes. Par 3s r challenging from middle tees (silver). Approach shots have to be accurate even on the par 5s as water is in play. The greens are very firm and fast not to mention very undulating. tricky pin placements and u have to spot on with chipping. The greens r nearly impossible so 2 putts are a plus. Im a 12 handicap and got to say if you are not on your good game. this course will eat u up. Factor in 10+ strokes if u dont hit straight. Nevertheless, I still highly recommend this course around the North suburbs. However it is not as forgiving like Pine Meadows or Thunderhawk. Also, condition was decent for being late in the season. overall the course is well maintained. we paid $69 for mon late morning round. Clubhouse is very nice and course has a private club feel to it. cheers

Best golf course around. Such a lovely quaint establishment on every level.

I never leave reviews but had to today. Towards the end of the summer the greens can get a little beat up here, but it was mint today. Greens are lightening and the rest of the course is in great shape. To people that play here, FIX YOUR BALL MARKS! Keep Makray in good shape! We love it here.

Went for a fundraiser. The upstairs banquet hall is really nice and has great views overlooking the golf course. It would be a great venue for a wedding or large party. The food options were limited for our particular event and other than the blue cheese on the salad, everything was good.

The restaurant space has a fantastic view of the ponds and the greenery. Looks like a great wedding venue, which is what our family was checking it out for.

Very good food and variety of vegetables with the main dish. My friend had the funeral luncheon for her recently d err parted father there. I will recommend it to others.

Golf course in great shape fastest greens and tough pin placements I have ever experienced

Course is phenomenal. The 1 star rating has to do with how I was treated in the pro shop. Blonde hair gentleman behind the desk says “oh you pre-paid on golf now” and basically threw the receipt at me. Rude and unfriendly. Maybe he was mad I found a hot deal and didn’t pay full price?

Absolutely outstanding staff at Makray Memorial Golf Club. As a wedding violinist, Im often scrambling to find the coordinators, making multiple calls/emails to the venue to discuss times and locations on site. They were prompt, helpful before the event, and went out of their way to accommodate not just their guests but the fellow staff who were on site that day. Even helped our DJ carry in equipment! Thank you for your amazing customer service.

Good golf course excellent Clubhouse starters are little picky but very professional.Way back in the day this used to be Thunderbird Golf Course... The new ownership have really improved it.Be ready and certain days the greens are lightning quick. Thats the only tiny criticism I could give that from day to day is not as consistent and green speed. But definitely one of the better courses in the northwest suburbs !Ill always have a special part in my heart for Thunderbird. One of the first courses I golfed back in the day of the Caddyshack Craze.Hey taught us Unrefined 30 year old contractor types that hey we can Golf too ! ....

Great experience. We hosted a baby shower here, and the staff went out of the way to make sure it was a very enjoyable experience! They even went to the extent to ordering specialty food items for our guests. We will definitely be doing more events here in the future!

Lots of potential here. High price for cart path only when it hasn’t rained in days. Rangers like hawks while I’m trying to stick a tough shot then takes off. Of course it’s slower play when it’s cart path only. Should have given us a credit for another round after they get their drainage issues sorted.

We were here for a wedding, and reception, the grounds are beautiful and immaculately kept even for a golf club.The hall and the reception area are well thought out, with access to everything you need.The catering, and wait staff were excellent, offering service that was well above most of the venues Ive been to lately.As far as I know there were absolutely no complaints from anyone, and no issues.

I have played this course many times over the years and always loved it. This time not so much. I was very disappointed with the condition (the fairways and rough especially). I wouldnt expect a course charging what they do ($85+ on the weekends) to be so dead and dried out . It looks like they decided to just quit watering. The layout is very good, but due to the condition I would go elsewhere until they bring the price down or take better care of it.

I didnt use the golf course, but I have had dinner at the restaurant many times and enjoyed it immensely. The ambiance is great as is the food and service. I go there often with friends and clients and I highly recommend it.

Nicely maintained fairways, & 10 minute intervals ensure almost no backups in the t box.

Some of the greens are unfairly sleek and difficult, however, some long putts were falling in unexpectedly. Its still a beautiful course.

Grew up playing in Orlando. Hard to find a decent course that has real distance, soft sand bunkers, well-maintained greens and friendly service. Loved the course layout, challenging and to reiterate well-maintained.

Excellent food options (especially the Chicken Bourdin and Chicken Picata) preparedly well. Service was outstanding. Suggest if not overly hungry the lite portion was perfect in size.
