Definitely worth a visit of several hours. Honest, no punches held exhibit on the civil war and racism. Great exhibit of period clothing, with backstories on the garments. Many fine artifacts from a range of subjects, from native items to everyday prosaic goods.

Baltimores true diamond in the rough. To the east are wonderful neighborhoods, to the west you really dont want to go there. The museum was wonderful but the staff and police seem not to care about the homeless man living on the porch of the Pratt House or the condition of the house of their biggest benefactor. This place could be so much better.

We had a wonderful experience working with the reference librarian and finding information from the last century. Maryland has such a rich and colorful past its worth spending a lot more than a day here. The folks here who work here couldnt be more helpful and the exhibits are really informational and easy to use. First-rate!

I have to say it was not the best, the staff was rude to my sister and me and we had to leave her backpack on the floor near the desk because they didnt have any lockers and wouldnt let her take it inside, she even offered to let him check it before going in and before coming out to make sure whatever he thought was going to be stolen wasnt and he said no. He than said he couldnt make sure things werent taken from her bag. This was after we had already paid.

I got there at about 945 am on Saturday. It was nice and quiet and they had a free parking lot, which is always a bonus in a downtown setting. Most of the items are very specific to Maryland (of course) and the associated heroes of the war of 1812. The first floor is a large amount of paintings. Things on the next floor up are very interesting. There is a very large display about Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte. I enjoyed this the most. They explain in very good detail her story and have quite a few very wonderful pieces. The cost is 9$ for adults.

Awesome museum. Awesome library. Friendly folks. Shame that they knocked down nearly a block-and-a-half of historic buildings and homes a few decades ago, to create what is now a mostly vacant parking lot. Minus one star for that.

Im glad we went, but it wasnt a peak experience. There were exhibits on the War of 1812 and the Civil War. There was a big exhibit of old furniture. There was an exhibit about Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte, who was briefly married to Napoleons brother Jerome; she appears to have been the Kim Kardashian of the early-to-mid 19th century. There were photographs of Baltimore from the mid-20th century civil rights movement. It was all vaguely interesting but nothing grabbed me. If you want to learn about the War of 1812, go to Fort McHenry.
