Must see. Completely Different experience depending on the time of day you go. I recommend visiting at sunrise, sunset, and at night to see the city lights. If your not a fan of crowds, sunrise is better, because this outlook is typically crowded the majority of the time.If you follow the trail to the right you’ll find a short trail that is just as beautiful and allows you to escape the crowd.

Awesome place to take your family and friends to show off Austin and the beautiful Colorado River they used to be someone of a hidden gem but now sometimes they’ll be lines of cars and you have to walk half a mile just to get there. It is worth it though this is actually were my husband proposed to me so the place will always hold a special place in my heart this is where my family began so I will never stop going I just hope they don’t ever ban people from hiking up to the edge.

Pennybacker Bridge (locals call it the 360 Bridge) is a hidden treasure of Austin. If you park on the eastbound side before the river, there is a small trail to hike up for an amazing and iconic view.Hooligans who want somewhere to smoke weed should look elsewhere. Cops patrol this area frequently.

There’s a small trail to climb up a hilltop where visitors are allowed to see the magnificent bridge and the lake overview. Parking is on the side of the road and free but may get busy with lot of visitors. Kids have to be little carefully as there is no ropes to safeguard them. The hike itself is not that complicated and can have fun time on the hilltop.

I had the most bizarre experience at this bridge, it was like some sort of ethereal awakening.Major life decisions, and major life changes happen here all the time. Many people, have decided this is the place to propose marriage to their future forever soulmate. You can feel the vibe here as soon as you get here. The view is spectacular,It’s rustic, it’s a tad bit dangerous, you could actually fall and hurt yourself quite well here. Don’t know how many people have, but there’s an element of extreme danger here and I hope it never changes.

I come to this place every time I visit Austin. Such a beautiful and epic view. If you get a nice weather day, bring some drink and sit here to enjoy a day. You can explore some different views if you go further but don’t trespassing. Nice place to take photos for family and friends. And for me is to find sone shades and enjoy drink with my wife there. This overlook is in most must see lists for Austin, but dont expect any amenities since this isnt a park or anything like that. The climb is easy enough ( Ive seen all shapes and sizes up there) and the view of the bridge is great! Snap some photos and then youre done! You dont get too good of a view of the sunset due to the direction the overlook is facing. Also, the only place to park is a tow away zone next to the road.

As a living artist in this awesome city; Austin has so many awe inspiring places to visit and explore. The Pennybacker Bridge is a quintessential Austin experience. The overall view, the air, the river and the bridge all come together in this special place. For those of you that have been here before, I am positive you will return and maybe well run into one another someday. For those that have not been here yet, what are you waiting for? Be sure to check out the cliffs on both sides of the bridge. You can easily spend more than few hours taking in all the scenery and checking out the bridge from various angles and heights. For photographers, this is a great place to capture all year around. Parking can be tricky and if you decide to park off the side of the highway, be very careful and keep it safe. I personally have been so motivated by the Pennybacker Bridge, I have incorporated the view into some of my art and clothing designs. Enjoy Austin!

Great location! If great pictures is your goal, the best time at the moment is between 4-6pm. Its mid January. Be prepared to stop along a busy road! Youll see a bunch of cars parked along the sides. There are signs saying No Parking but everyone does and Ive never seen or heard of anyone actually getting a ticket. I think its mostly there so that if you cause a wreck while parking or leaving, they can blame you for being there. Otherwise, be prepared for a slightly steep hike. I would say its safe for families, but if you have little ones or kids that dont listen to caution, you need to be very careful! Lots of potential for deadly falls! Be prepared!

We visited the Pennybacker Bridge in November 18, 2018. We had no idea that Austin was so mountainous (we are from Florida, so a rise in the road is a hill to us). So maybe mountainous is an overstatement, but we were very pleasantly surprised by the terrain in this part of Austin. We climbed up the bridge overlook and got the good view. Definitely worth the work of the climb. I do not recommend the climb unless you are reasonably fit. It is a bit challenging and no stairs or good handholds. We saw this on a clear day and you could see for miles. It was really beautiful.Dont miss the park nearby also.

When you navigate to the location, youll see a small gravel parking lot by the entrance to the bridge. It theres a short little trail you go up to reach the lookout area. There are a couple ways to get up. One is a lot of rocks you climb up, but theres also a sloped path (that I failed to notice on my way up). The lookout area is pretty breezy and small, but if you keep going, there are more trails you can follow - dont get deterred by the fences that make it look like you might not be able to enter.
