Best jazz club in Austin. Really solid music played in a uniquely long room. Ideal place to go if you want to sit up front and really watch the musicians do their magic. Also great room if you sit further back and what to catch up with friends over drinks. The room is have the talent.

How many times can you keep coming to a place and it never disappoints!Tonight was no exception!Only a $5 cover for Saturday night and live jazz!!This band was right on point! Such a cozy atmosphere, just be quick to find a seat or make friends like we did and ask to join a table with free chairs!Craft beer and full bar, a little tight at the bar to get a drink, but once we found a seat, the waitstaff did a great job taking care of everyone.A wonderful date night for sure!!

Enjoyed the live jazz, staff was attentive. Went on a Monday night, there was a good crowd, but still a few open tables. Monday nights are the Jan sessions, so saw multiple musicians join the house band. Has an underground look and feel, but felt clean and safe the whole time. Great place to visit!

Fantastic place. Amazing music. We saw the AMAZING band.. The Paper Moon Shiners during happy hour. Stayed until closing. Second band was also geat. Awesome staff . Delicious cocktails. Just one of the best nights ever. Im from Houston but will definitely be going back to Austin just for this place. Worth all the copious amounts of cash I spent. ;)

This place has a special spot in my heart because it’s where I fell in love with my husband it’s got the best live jazz in Austin and the smooth atmosphere can’t be beat. I love their Thursday night happy hour, but anytime is a good time to stop in. It’s the best addition to any date, even if you’re not a jazz fan. Look for our dollar- Bobby and Mary = Love or something like that. Also big shout out to the great staff, good people.

Low-slung bordering on dive bar vibe. Great service. Heard a set from a fantastic jazz combo. Will definitely visit again whenever I make my way back to Austin.

When I want to listen to jazz, this is where I come. The underground jazz room feels like you are stepping out of the Austin, into a another time. We heard Ephraim Owens, the whole band was fantastic, a real joy. The candlelit ambiance with lovely music makes for a perfect, romantic date night.

Saw The Brew (Latin jazz band) at the Elephant Room. The Brew is an excellent band, theyve been playing in the Austin area for several years. The Elephant Room is a cozy underground venue with surprisingly good acoustics. We arrived early enough to get a table. The place fills up quickly. Both the bar & table service were good. Good drinks. Nice selection of draft & bottled beer.

Wonderful atmosphere, great customer service and an awesome house band. Really good time! Great reasonable drinks! Cozy, but the seating was still spacious enough where you wont feel cramped. Good acoustics also!

Oh my god! This place is fantastic! Everything we ordered was exceptional! I would say that the sweet potato dish was the one that surprised me most. I appreciate a well thought out and curated menu. If you go with a few folks get a little bit of everything and share you wont be disappointed!

This place is sick. from live jazz to good, cheap beer, it is everything I’d want in a bar. i love the decor, the vibe, the bartenders, & everything else. it’s like fat cat in NYC except for all the parts of fat cat that i hate. i strongly recommend elephant room

Terrible location for live music but i love going to shows here. Last time i went i was assaulted by some drunk lady. Usually people are talking over the musicians. One time a server tried to tip themselves 50% on my tab but my credit card company caught it. All that to say Ive heard some of the best live music in my life here and i keep coming back. Good beer selection.

This place started out with a quiet crowd at 7, then over the next set that came on the crowd grew and it got way loud. Very cool place to chill if you dont want to talk to the people your with.

Listen, this place is amazing. They dont serve food but the vibe is so chill you dont even care. Eat before you come. Come in and enjoy swanky cocktails, friendly service and superb live music. :)

The perfect place to escape in the middle of city to enjoy a Jazz atmosphere. With a nice underground vibe I recommend this place to go with friends or with your couple, order a drink and enjoy the music. Dont forget to post your dollar bill in the wall.

This place has been here for well over twenty years and I have vague memories of the back room and a girl whos name I probably never knew. It has consistently served up decent jazz and blues and is a great place to break away from the craziness of dow town its always an interesting mix of regulars, tourists, business folk, and hipsters, which can lead to interesting conversation and the occasional annoyance, but the bartenders are friendly, the beer is cold, the liquor selection is decent, and it gets points for being old school. Take a date or friends from out of town or take a break and get away from the nonstop and enjoy some cool tunes in the vein of Coltrane or Hancock. You wont regret it.

Good music. Good ambience. Must visit if youre a Jazz fan. The crowd is always classy and super cool.You can check online the timings of the band performances. This place accepts booking and is super crowded on weekends. There might be a waiting list if youre late.

The Elephant Room is a little divey, but amazing! The music was phenomenal, and the drinks were really good. We had their signature mule and it was a nice drink.

Great cozy spot for live jazz! Drink list is pretty short. Expect to wait for drinks as there are only a couple servers and lots of people on the weekends. They did not have a good way of keeping track of who has paid the cover charge (cash only/ATM on site) and we were asked to pay it twice.

The drinks are over priced but the live jazz is worth it. Cool bartenders and there is a cover charge of $5 cash at the door. I try and go here every night when I’m in Austin. 6th st wasn’t really my thing.

Good bar and venue. Ordered a cocktail which was tasteless. To her credit my server brought a different one for free - much better. Pleasantly surprised at the drink price. The jazz quartet played the usual tired form - I find it hard to believe that it hasnt evolved beyond Head (melody) / endless solos over the chord progression / Head ... because it has not evolved it is essentially dead as an art form.

The Elephant Room sign is small and barely lit, couldnt find it at first. You enter a glass door that leads you downstairs to the actual jazz spot. Really neat seemed like it was hidden. Almost like a cellar then again they do serve wine haha. Lights are dimmed, live band playing, many choices of wine. We requested Malbec a red wine from Argentina. If I could add a small video clip of how awesome the ambience was, I so would! Not bad at all for a Tuesday evening!

Awesome live jazz in a very chill atmosphere. The wait staff was incredibly nice and friendly. There are about 20 beers on tap and a few well made cocktails. It is nice to sit back, drink, and listen to the jazz or even sit in the back and converse with friends while drinking with jazz in the background.

Best jazz bar in Austin. Been going here since I was 21, and it has stayed the same despite all the changes in Austin. Please never close your doors, keep on keeping Austin weird. Austin loves you Elephant Room!

Omg! This place was awesome. If you love music youll love this place, I think I can even come by in my own. If you go at around 8 or 9 pm youll be in a line waiting but its very worth the wait.. youll be waiting around 10 to 35 min depending on the line of course. I absolutely love it.. I will be returning..

Great little room! Talented musicians. We got there early so that we could get a table. The place is small so it fills up fast. The vibes definitely reminded me of the old Austin.

Music was good. Dungeon feel and stinky. Bathrooms were the worst Ive ever been to. 3rd world country toilets are better. No one ever cleans them. Pee all over and the pungent stench of old urine make you want to gag!

Had a negative experience here on a slow Sunday night. Bartenders refused to serve waters, slow to serve drinks, ignored half of the requests I made and there’s barely anyone here. Took 10 minutes to get a couple limes (that I ordered in the first place). Brought people from out of town and it reflected poorly on me. Not again :/

Love effron in the quartet. He can get a little preachy but I like that because it shows you got to respect music if youre going to come out here. Very cool then you dont forget to open the door and go down the stairs and heres some trumpet music.

The jazz band we saw on Feb 10 was awesomeThe young kids talking to hear themselves ruin the back of the room.

Visiting from out of town and stumbled upon this little gem. Awesome dark vibe and tons of atmosphere. Bar staff were very helpful and friendly and the live jazz completes the tone. If you like dives or anything with lots of history this is the place to be. Thank you, Elephant Room!

The Elephant room is a long standing Austin tradition for Jazz aficionados. It has several cool factors, the first being that it is in the heart of downtown. Its in a basement which may sound odd but that adds to the charm. Its very cozy, intimate, and unpretentious. They bring in some great Jazz musicians. If you like Jazz, youve gotta check this place out.

Time travel in jazzy ambienceThis is what brings me back to Austin. When you walk in, it will seem like transcending to a different time period. Reminds me of Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris. Most of the times I visited, bands were playing more complex, classic jazz which might take some time to develop a taste for.Bar tenders are very friendly and welcoming. Don’t skip this place if you are visiting Austin.

Visited Elephant Room with work colleagues on a Monday night and it is undoubtedly a sexy, intimate little spot - perfect place for a date or a chilled night out. Located below street level it is dark and moody with a long bar and stage at the back of the room. The candlelit venue, walls framed with famous autographs is open seven nights a week. While most shows begin at 9.30PM, Happy Hour Shows run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There is a cover of five dollars on weekends with free entry on weekdays. It is customary to tip the acts on stage by placing bills on a tip jar. There is plenty of seating space on the main floor and the bar but get there early to get a table at the front.Voted Austins Best Jazz Bar for seven years running, Elephant Room lives up to the hype. We watched the Job Bondell Trio and they did play some beautiful jazz. The acts are so cool they take the time to interact with the audience asking for requests or exchanging stories about the music they are playing. Elephant Room is a true gem of the Austin music scene.

I love this place, the jazz and Will, the bartender! Everytime I visit Austin, I make sure I go to The Elephant Room. Will remembers my drink and he always finds a seat for me! Too bad I live in Houston, otherwise, Id live in this Jazz Bar.

Pretty much the only real Jazz club left in Austin. They have great and varied musicians so whether you like traditional jazz, Latin jazz or upbeat big band you can find it here.

Fun place, great happy hour band (Beat Soup).

Love the atmosphere and the jazz is great. As you walk down the wooden steps the jazz greets you and welcomes you in. Its less of a room and more of a long hallway, with the bar running along the length of the room. The spots up by the stage are lucrative so I recommend getting there earlier in the night/evening. There is a cover charge ($5) on weekends.

I liked the music. I liked the server. I liked the atmosphere.What I did NOT was the lack of an easy accessible way in and out of the place. I was using a walker and it literally had to be up and down the steps by my daughter while trying to navigate the stairs with people in line waiting for a table to free up. I had to walk (very carefully and slowly) up and down the stairs after the staircase was emptied so I could grasp the side rails. How a person in a wheelchair would gain access I have no idea, nor was i told by the staff of a better way in or out.Other than that:You can bring your own snacks food with you to eat with your drinks.The list of beers was good. What I found interesting was that they had selections available that the restaurant upstairs didnt - and vice-versa.
