The Texas Rowing Center in Austin provides friendly and efficient service for those looking to paddle board, kayak or canoe. They generously let me store my bag in their storage area, which saved me a trip back to the car. They are relatively strict with time deadlines, but are also able to be reasoned with, which is impressive considering the volume of customers they work with on a daily basis, especially during the summer. On the whole, I had a positive experience and look forward to returning.

Easy to access, friendly staff. Their lessons are great and equipment is solid. If youve never kayaked or rowed or paddled, go and try it out here. Youll come back for sure. Its worth $15 just to try it out for an hour and see if youre meant for kayaking daily.

Love renting from this place! The line moves quick, and you are in the water in no time! I take everyone who visits me here to experience Ladybird on a SUP paddleboard. And $45 all day isnt too bad! We pack a cooler that straps to the board and spend the whole day out on the water.

Went kayaking on Lady Bird Lake and had a pleasant experience with the staff as well as the activity. Owner was present on the day we went and on multiple occasions he checked in with us to ensure everything was good and whether we enjoyed! Offered masks to anyone who did not have one to ensure the publics safety! Highly recommend Texas Rowing Center!

Y’all could do a better job telling your paying customers how long it will take to get on the water during peak hours. I paid for an hour and spent 20 minutes waiting to get a board. Atleast inform us before we pay so we know the time constraints. I feel like my $20 for the hour wasn’t fair. Needs a communication upgrade!

All equipment is constantly being cleaned and masks are required on the dock. You leave the dock on your knees on the board to prevent falling and hitting your head on the dock. You are required to wear a life jacket but we do remove ours and attach it to the net on the board, once we get out on the water. You can take what you want on the board like a small cooler or backpack. Obviously, glass is not a smart choice, but bevvies are allowed. Use your own judgement and be safe and respectful and this is a really fun activity. You pay by the hour but we have never been charged more for losing track of time and coming in later than our hour. Most people choose paddle boards but there are row boats and kayaks as well. The Rowing center does have a rowing summer day camp for kids. My son went at 14 and gained muscle by the time it was over. Team work is necessary. This is a cool opportunity. You do sign a waiver when you arrive at the rowing center and you can leave property securely in baskets behind the counter. There is more than plenty social distancing space on the water.

Kayaked here for the first time and absolutely loved it! It was super busy on Memorial weekend so I proud wouldnt ever go on a holiday again. So many people on the water made it difficult to relax trying not to hit anyone with our kayak. The biggest drawback is there is no one to demonstrate kayaking or anything for first timers however we learned on our own quickly- just watch a few YouTube videos before you go. The scene was beautiful and I would certainly go again!

I like this place just fine... Except how they are not practicing social distancing. Most employees kept their bandanas around their necks when speaking to customers. I was really surprised when the guy on the docks walked up (from behind me) to speak to me very closely, well within 6 feet, probably more like 3. They also didnt require customers to.wear masks. The last place I used (near Congress) was very strict, this made me feel much more comfortable.Fine rowing place, but too laid back for my comfort during these weird times.

I really enjoyed renting a kayak from Texas Rowing Center, and their location is super convenient regardless of whether youre parking or walking from nearby. I only took one star because they didnt seem to be taking sanitation very seriously. I didnt notice any cleaning of the paddles or kayak boards in-between customers, which during COVID, was troublesome. Staff was very friendly, easy-going, and professional.

This is my favorite place to go through to rent a SUP. The pricing is super reasonable. Unlike most places that charge by the hour, if youre out for more than 2 hours they have a standard all day rental price of $35-40, and you can come and go off the water as you please. They provide a life jacket for humans, and allow you to take your fur buddy. Theres only street parking, thatll youll have to pay for, but that isnt priced ridiculously either.

Best dock in Austin I’ve been Paddle boarding Lady bird since ‘13 and Used to go to the Rowing Docks and they are okay but I LOVE THIS DOCK it’s closest to downtown so taking the left side with your out of town friends only takes about 25-35 mins to get right in the middle of downtown on the lake.Pricing is the best deal as well costs 35 for a full day (As opposed the the 45 for the day at the Rowing docks)

The staff was courteous and helped us get everything we needed. The main issue is that $15 for an hour is a bit pricey... I mean kayaks run about 300-400 especially the cheap ones they had. But it was worth it for a nice trip on the water. As they warn you, you will get wet. My pants were soaked by the time we got out.

The cleaning measures that are declared on the website are not being taken, please don’t be fooled if pandemic safety measures are important to you. Some of the safe wore masks and there were cones in the rental line marking 6 ft apart but it was not being enforced.

I usually go to another kayaking place, but decided to mix it up this time since this place appeared to be cheaper. The check in/check out process is a mess here. You line up and pay for an hour or unlimited, then they take your items and put them in a box and you write the number on your hand with a Sharpie. After the long check in line and the cashier lady being unable to subtract and make the correct change without our help, we hopped in and went out. We paid for an hour, but it’s pretty hard to keep track of that so we ended up staying out for two hours. So, when we got back we had to pay for an extra hour, so we had to get back in line and wait to pay. When we got up there, the price was double for two hours, which sort of makes sense, except that 2 hours comes out to be the same price as unlimited for the whole day. So, for one paddle board and one single kayak, we spent $70 for two hours. The whole setup is just poorly done. Most places, you give them your ID, they write down the time, then you pay at the end. Instead, this system made the place crowded and confusing and at the end you just felt like you spent a lot of money for a little bit of time. I definitely will be returning to my previous spot instead in the future.

Review №41

Pre-pandemic I would give this place 5/5 stars. But of any place that makes promises on their website regarding COVID and then not live up to them is not a place I want to go. They require masks on the dock when about maybe 5-10% of people were wearing them. They also mentioned that they spray down life jackets and wipe down paddles in between *every* use, but in reality I was just given the life jacket off of someones back as they handed me the paddles they just used - no cleaning involved. And as for physical distancing, thats not even a thing here.

The least “touristy” of the kayak rental businesses on Town Lake, and one of the oldest.I do wish there was a heads up on their kayak rental page reminding customers that their kayaks are the type with small holes in the bottom that water will automatically come through into your seat—so prepared to get wet and plan ahead with a change of clothes!

This was my first time here. I called ahead of time to check what Texas Rowing Center was doing in regards to COVID 19. I was told they required masks off the water, 6 ft distancing in line, hand sanitizer stations, and disinfecting equipment before use. When I got there no one was standing 6 ft apart in line and no one was enforcing it. There was no hand sanitizer in sight and there was no disinfecting of the equipment. Some staff were wearing masks but no customers were and no one was enforcing it either. I was very disappointed that they were not practicing what I was told over the phone. We drove all the way from leander just to turn around and go home. I will not be coming back.

Customer service is everything, and this place did not leave a good first impression. Since the website does not have an FAQ page, we had to call in to see what the parking situation was. It was the most unpleasant phone call I’ve ever encountered with a business. My boyfriend started the call asking the woman who answered how she was doing and she said “good.” “...I was just wondering if you have onsite parking?” “No.” This woman sounded like she either hated her job or her life, and all her answers were one word in the most annoyed, not engaging tone. I was so turned off by this phone call that we researched other options and went with a different company where we were greeted with friendly staff, had a great time and also enjoyed their onsite parking. Customer service is important. Every interaction counts! We were referred to this place by a friend but they ultimately lost our business in the end.

Awesome location, nice staff, good prices. However, some quality control/ maintenance needs to be done on the paddle boards.Maybe the lack of maintenance is why the prices are so low, but Im not sure its worth it.The first 5 times I went, it was fine. But the past 2 times I went here the paddle boards left pieces of fiberglass in my husbands and my forearms from when we had to climb back up on it after falling off.The first time I didnt realize what it was, and just contributed it to bug bites. The second time, I looked closer and saw 50+ little clear fibers sticking out of my arm. Tried using tape to get it out, but in the end just had to deal with the prickly irritation for a day or two.I hate the inflatable paddle boards and much prefer the fiberglass boards, but they should definitely be more proactive with the refinishing of the boards.Maybe theyve fixed it by now, but since I cant know for sure without risking more fiberglass thorns, its hard to justify returning when we could just try one of the other 100 paddle board locations on the river.

Not a big deal, just figured Id point it out.

Cashiers are not friendly nor helpful. They seem very annoyed with their jobs. The workers on the dock were much nicer and we had a great time in the water but when we got back, one of the girls told me get out the kayak and didnt even help me and glared at me like she was annoyed. All the other people getting out the water had help. Then, my niece was getting out while one of the workers held her kayak but he suddenly let go as soon as she stood up. She ended up falling and scrapping both her knees on the side of the dock. It was an honest mistake and we werent mad at him but her knees were bleeding a lot and no one helped. I went to the cashier and asked if she had any napkins or bandaids. Once again, just rude attitude and just points at a dusty box with dusty bandaids on the shelf which is fine that they dont provide all the first aid stuff but at least ACT concerned. My niece had blood just dripping down her legs into the dirt and they didnt blink an eye. Never going here again. The Rowing Dock and Live Love Paddle are much better locations and provide 100x better customer service. Plus, those locations provide free cubbies and lockers.
