I love wooden coasters, however this was way too jarring and uncomfortable. Listening to other riders saying they would not ride it again, I belive some drastic maintenance needs to be done before someone gets a serious injury. My back and neck were screwed the rest of the day. Im Diamond Elite and this is the first time riding this coaster and my second time to this park.

It’s old so if you are looking for a traditional ride you won’t find it here on this coaster. It’s a coaster from earlier days when they were constructed the old fashioned way. The engineering is all wood. It’s scary as hell it shakes all over. When the coaster goes threw ups and downs with speed it feels as if it leaves the track a slight bit. I noticed it a few times. When you are returning to the end the coaster makes a sudden stop when the ride is over. The brakes work!!

The ride was very fun; however, it was also extremely painful as the ride is pretty rickety so you’re shaking excessively the entire time and the last brake is very abrupt and causes whiplash, so you end up getting out of the ride feeling like you were in a car accident. If the ride could be restored or built to a condition like the Twisted Cyclone, it would have been a very enjoyable, smooth ride.

Great American Scream Machine might be an old coaster, but it doesnt ride like a beloved classic when the park puts so little maintenance into keeping the ride comfortable. The roughness is jackhammering at times, and all that kinetic energy gets wasted and the ride runs even slower. That means weaker laterals and airtime on a ride that would otherwise have it in spades. In addition, the buzz bar 3 seater trains have been replaced by regular 2 seater trains with lap bars, so theres less room for airtime and no middle of the train seat to avoid roughness. This ride was updated in the wrong ways. It needs new wood on the structure, a complete retracking of the layout, and fresh paint across the board to live up to its potential as a beloved classic.

A true classic! Its old, and a little rough - but I still love this ride.

This coaster hurt my back, neck, and ribs so bad! I don’t understand why it’s made to knock people around THAT hard. I love roller coasters so much but I will NEVER ride this again! I honestly would never recommend anyone riding this. I’m sorry to be so blunt.

I always love a good wooden coaster but this is something else. Its very Shakey and will toss you around. You will get an instant headache once it is over. I also dont recommend that you ride with a young child. I went on with my 6yr old and it was horrifying. I was holding her head back the whole time so she wouldnt hit it. The only good thing I have to say is that the first 2 drops are fun and it has potential to be great if its rebuilt or reinforced.

I have been riding this classic roller coaster for over 25 years and it is still one of the best wood roller coasters ever. After riding it forward, one should try riding it backwards

Literally the worst ride I’ve ever been on I sat in the back and couldn’t even breathe to scream ow because how hard I was being thrown against the back of my seat

The ride definitely is old guy, but dont let that deter you from having fun on a coaster that doesnt go upside down. For me, thats great. It is a little of a rough ride and can be hard on the back.

This is the best ride I have ever ridden and the banging around just adds to the amusement of the ride. As for this is a great starter coaster this was one of my first ever real deal coasters and I recommend this to all people of all ages.

This ride was 100% the worst experience of my life, but don’t get me wrong, the free tub of fried chicken they give you to eat while on the ride was fantastic!! I have concussion now, and a chicken leg lodged in my throat, fun times!!

No words, the GASM in reverse is now my favorite woodie in the US. Still beats you to a pulp and gets ya screaming! 10/10 Keep it in reverse Six Flags!

When you are first trying out this ride it looks cool but its you worst nightmare.

They need to close this dinosaur. WORST ROLLERCOASTER I’VE EVER BEEN ON. I’ve never been more disappointed in an amusement park in my life. I hope they burn this thing down. Dinosaurs are extinct for a reason.

This ride has thrilled and excited so many including my 8 yr old self. Now its nothing more than headache creating, knee bashing painful 2 mins of time you will wish you could get back. Tear it down, build a memorial, show it the respect it has earned and build a better ride in its place

This ride is horrible lol it is very rough on your body! It would be fun if they could update the track like they did the twisted cyclone (, Georgia cyclone)

This ride honestly feels like an accident waiting to happen. It is soooo rough and the restraints dont feel very secure. You feel like you could possibly fly out of the ride at anytime. Idk how this thing is still allowed to run. It needs to either be refurbished or closed.

I normally try to find anything positive to say about a roller coaster, but with this one I struggle to find the words. “It’s paced well, I guess?” Other than that slight benefit, the “Great” American Scream Machine is a rough, very painful, very jerky, and unrewarding ride. This coaster is awful, frankly... I had heard some people praising it for its airtime, which I felt absolutely none of— even when sitting near the back of the train.Perhaps hilariously, this coaster’s neighbor (Blue Hawk, formerly known as Ninja) used to be my least favorite roller coaster before it was upgraded to its current state. Ninja used to also be an extremely painful, violent and rough ride, like Great American Scream Machine is now. But its transformation into Blue Hawk resulted in track reprofiling, new comfortable trains and a new theme.Overall, this coaster does NOT warrant your time at Six Flags Over Georgia. Just go ride the other great coasters they have here, like Goliath, Twisted Cyclone and Mind Bender!

Holy hell, what a painful experience!The first two drops are okay, then the rest of the ride straps you in and takes a jackhammer to your lower back. I rode in the last seat and it was a crazy painful ride. Definitely needs to be torn down and replaced. Go ride something else.

This thing gave me whiplash and a concussion. it beats you to death and there’s no escape. Our restraints weren’t all the way down and our SEAT BELT CAME UNBUCKLED. My cousin banged her hand against the bar so hard that it drew blood. If you like pain get on this ride.

You CANNOT enjoy this coaster and the airtime because it is very painful and a very rough ride. In the past you could tell it was a pretty good time, but not the case anymore. . Six Flags need to remove this for something better in the next few years.

It used to be great but now it feels like youre going to fall out and it ABSOLUTELY hurts your back pleassse tear it down and put the Georgia cyclone back. That used to be the BEST one.

Horrible experience. I rode on this about 35 years ago and loved it. It seemed so huge in my memory. Rode it yesterday and it was just horrible. I thought I was going to get whiplash or a concussion. Wasnt fun at all. Will skip this one next time around, lots of better coasters in this park.

I’ve been in cat accidents that were more pleasant. The rough ride isn’t the typical of wooden coasters. It feels poorly maintained. The sudden, whiplash inducing stop at the end is ridiculous. We had to leave the park after this one and I’m still feeling it the day after.

Omgoodness if you have any back issues do not ride this ride... otherwise it was fun.

If you enjoy cranial and spinal trauma then this is the coaster for you! From the first drop to the last, experience painful spine compression and head-jostling vibrations akin to taking a ride inside an industrial jackhammer!In all seriousness, this ride is absolutely horrible and needs to be eliminated immediately before someone is actually injured. I have no history of back problems and was provided with a headache and stabbing back pain. Do not ride this.

This was my first time getting on roller coaster for over 15 years. This ride had me screaming.. It is very bumpy and it stops like a jerk.

Do not ride unless you have pain killers on you. I have been in car accident that felt better then riding this. I would rather get kicked in the nuts then ever ride this again as that would be less painful.

Come on six flags! I used to love this ride but this year it has been running not so good. It is still fun but I do not recommend to anyone who hates rough rides because it has gotten super rough this season with the addition of the Georgia Cyclone trains. Please retrack and put old trains or entirely new trains to bring back the GREAT Great American Scream Machine it was last season.

This is probably the ride I do the least when I go to Six Flags Over Georgia. This things beats you up. I recommend a renovation. Im not talking about the kind of renovation that they did with Ninja/Blue Hawk. They need to do more than just repaint and put a new car on there. I really want to like this ride, its just really difficult. Other people seem to like it though! The line is always packed. This just isnt my kind of ride.

Extremely rough ride. I could not wait for this one to be over. I love rollercoasters, but this one is in dyer need of some repair and reassessment. It thrashes you around in the seat very badly, the cars and track sound rickety and like theyre going to fall apart, and it was just overall super painful. I like the park, but I disliked this ride.

I happen to love the Scream Machine, but it is an older wooden coaster, so it does rattle a lot. Dont expect a smooth ride, but it is fun.

Beware, it will dislocate ur brain from ur spine, now I understand why there wasnt a long line, which wants to jolted from head to toe if ur a somewhat of a big person the waist bar will hurt badly, my wife 110lbs also said it was the worst

The Great American Scream Machine! Its an icon at Six Flags over Georgia. I grew up riding this ride and look forward to taking my daughter when shes tall enough.

People love this coaster but to me its a back breaker. The ride is too rough to be fun. This probably needs to be rebuilt or re-tracked.

Though the airtime on this coaster is amazing it can’t make up for the painful shaking and back and neck pain after the ride(Edit) this was posted a few days before a six flags trip and I thought you know let me give it a chance so I got on and we got stuck at the top for 25 minutes and then it went over and I had horrible neck pain after(as expected)

Sadly way past its prime and not maintained very well. Old uncomfortable trains don’t help. Would love to see this classic woodie updated and retracked with new trains. This isn’t one of those nostalgic old wooden coasters anymore. It’s a painful ride and so bad that it’s laughable.

Thrilling wooden coaster

This ride should be shut down and/or demolished. The rollercoaster was very old and bumpy. I had to take some advil after getting off due to a major headache. I urge you to keep on walking right past this horrible rollercoaster... Ride the superman!!! I definitely recommend that one if you want a thrill.

This used to be the best ride in the park, back in the 80s. Every time I smell Marlboro cigarettes, it reminds me of standing in line waiting for the Scream Machine.

This is an old school type of wooden roller coaster, it is pretty shaky however the repeated drops are very fun!

Always a favorite.

This is still in operation? First wooden coaster I ever rode. Dont ride in the back cars unless you like being jarred excessively. Plenty of air time, but not too many curves or turns.
