I visited this museum last week for the very first time. It is so full of history you must see it to understand it all. It is a very brief but well done overview of the Auburn & Placer county areas from the 1840s moving forward. Auburn was a very important town in the Gold Rush days. The railroad went through Auburn as well (still does.)

Loved the museum here. It was very fun to walk through though it was kind of small. The architecture is gorgeous. There is free parking and the entrance is free as well.

Ok, Im biased. I grew up here, lived here most of my life and after every travel experience, I can say I still love being here. Gold Country is relaxed & gorgeous, full of history (native and introduced) and town folk are nice. Old bars, good restaurants and a unique atmosphere - what you see is what you get. Having this gorgeous center piece of an architecturally impressive building is something I can brag about. Nothing is extraordinary thrilling about Auburn, but thats what makes it feel like home. Its subtle, its old school, its a big fat hug - it has spoiled me for anything else!

The sheriff at the entry point was one of the coolest people we have ever met. He was friendly helpful knowledgeable and an amazing advocate for his town and county and we very much appreciated all of his amazing tourist advice

Nestled on the ground floor of an old historic building this gem of a museum gives a great insight into local history over the past 100 years. Dont miss the womens jail beneath the North stairs. Asking questions will likely get you great insight from the attendants.

So very interesting, a must see if you are into local history. I brought friends from out of town, they loved it. I grew up in Newcastle and I thoroughly enjoyed, walking through history. Many Native American artifacts, baskets, full body, models of Native American leathers, beaded clothing, grinding stones, photographs etc. Enjoy the history through the years. Outstanding Native American Baskets. The Courthouse is still in operation, their is security at the entrance.

Ok so I went there for Jury Duty but after I walked around. What a beautiful building. The judge gave us a mini history lesson about the building. It was really interesting. Crown mold is gorgeous. Huge wood doors. Beautiful building. And the judge was really cool. Great experience. Sadly I wasnt chosen.

A multifaceted approach to the human history of the area, native and immigrant, with a strong focus on the lives and details of the average residents daily lives. Lots of interesting photos and artifacts. Be sure to engage the docent and learn even more. Housed in a working courthouse so leave your pocket knife in the car; you wont get through security.

One of the most Beautiful buildings architecturally speaking in Auburn. Its great place to take a few minutes to explore while you are on I80 traveling back and forth across the country. Its right off the freeway and you can snap a picture of the giant gold digger at the same time. :-)
