Great area in Asheville. Regeneration of some of the old buildings is great to see.Interesting art and some of the artists are in working during your visit. We were there on a Sunday, so quite a few of the studios were not open. It’s a great place to spend some time outdoors, walking to the studios. There is a great brochure that you can pick up, with the artists listed and a map.

Lots of stuff to set out on adventure in this area. We did find a few places open after 9 mo of covid lock down but the number of people all wanting to get outside made this area very crowded, good for those that are open and we applaud them and tried to support them with purchases but after a1 hour wait for a we decided to try some place else. Give the area a try and support the shops that are open. We think they will figure out how to operate with the crowds and this may be one of the great areas to hangout and relax or kick off your new adventure. Be safe and give us like if are happy this area is open. We know we will be back.

We recently went on vacation and visited River Arts District in Asheville and it was amazing! We walked thru the studios and had so much fun looking at all the art. There is one artist Jonas Gerard that really piqued my interest... And his studio is absolutely incredible and a must view if you ever happen to find yourself in the area! He does have two studios.. I viewed his newer one. ️

What a unique collection of shops spread over several streets in the River Arts District! We saw glass being made, sculptures welded, paintings, pottery being made, just about any kind of art you can think of, and some I have never heard of, exist on these couple of streets. Most of the artists are in their shops and willing to talk with you about their technique and their thoughts. They were informative, they were friendly, and even if you didnt buy something! If you enjoy seeing unique works of art of all forms, you will like the River Arts District.

This area is small and has a lot of personality! All of the studios here seem to be working studios, which means you can buy handicrafts but should also be respectful of the artists time and space. If I wasnt traveling from out of town I would have loved to meet them, but since it is a working space theyre not open very late into the evening. Its a nice place to roam around before heading to some breweries or getting coffee. Id love to see this area expand more and continue to be a community hub!

Not exactly the best art I have seenEdit. Please dont take it personally. I am more interested in renaissance related art like the paintings that can be seen at the met. I understand the comparison can not be made, but that is the art I personally prefer. This is more of a unique to each artist art style.

The River Arts District in Asheville North Carolina is a place youre going to want to spend two or three days going through. There is no way you are going to go through every shop in the matter of one or two days. Inshort, it is a destination. If you can imagine an art or a craft, someone in that area is probably doing it. There is great food every place you go. There are campgrounds to accommodate most everybody. And a lot of the graffiti you cant really call graffiti theres actually some great artwork on these buildings. That alone is worth going to see. We spent three days there and wondered had we missed anything? Probably, the worth another trip back.

Most likely, you could travel the entire east coast and not find a more diverse selection of art within a few blocks. Artists expressing their craft in many different ways are located all throughout the district. Plan to spend some time and visit many shops and you will definitely be able to find some artists at work perfecting their craft. When you talk to the artist the art often comes alive as you realize the facts behind the layers, materials, or months of work needed to complete a piece of art. Great place to spend your afternoon in Ashville.
