They have a great selection of pens, pencils and journals. They also have some art objects for desks and offices which adds a nice touch to the selection. I have never used them for this, but they also have specialty papers, invitations, and cards. Both owners are very knowledgeable about pens and different inks, and they have always been great at making sure I got what I needed. They even helped me repair a pen I bought years ago. I love just going in to browse. The store is thoughtfully laid out and merchandised which makes it a great place to spend a some time.

Everything from fountain pens, rollerballs and ball poiints, pencils, beautiful stationary, lovely unusal jewelry and art, to gift certificates can be found this delightful friendly place. This is to say nothing of the friendly knowledgeable owners who run the store. Oh wait...... did I say anything about being able to order invitations of any kind?! You can!

I am a complete newbie when it comes to pens. I went in because I am a fan of notebooks and paper crafts. I’ve been wanting to start using fountain pens for a while though, and the price was a scary thing for me. The staff were so helpful and easy to understand when it came to explaining everything. They showed me ALL of my options and, unlike many other stores, didn’t push me to make a more expensive purchase. They were SO kind and so personable and I left feeling like it was money well spent (and not the typical “shoppers guilt” that I do too often). This is a MUST stop if you are interested in pens and paper, as there is a wide selection and the staff is fantastic! Have to stop by again!

My husband and I visited this lovely shop Thanksgiving weekend. My husband enjoys fine fountain pens and purchased a Pilot Vanishing Point. There are beautiful writing instruments, notebooks, pads, including gorgeous hand made journals. We enjoyed talking to Jonathan, the owner, who is charming and not at all sales-y. When we got home we had some difficulty with the converter. Jonathan was very responsive and quickly sent us another one at no charge. It turned out the mistake was on our side, and he graciously declined our offer to pay for the additional converter + shipping. Great service in a beautiful setting!

Visit was primarily for my wife, who is a practicing illustrator and bullet journalist. The staff was extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. They provided her with a much space to explore the space while not trying to force a sale. Accessibility was okay but a primarily stairs access route. The store was clean and beautiful, as was the surrounding building and neighbors. I did not view the second floor spaces.Prices were also quite comfortable. Products range from inexpensive beginner pieces to pricier professional products. The staff was happy to help people reach the product that would help them the best rather than hyping up expensive sale items.

Truely amazing shop that has a great selection and great prices. I spent a few hours in here and had a great time with an extremely helpful gentleman who’s name i forgot. He had a lot of great knowledge and helped me find what i was looking for, he took the time to answer my questions, let me try out different pens and worked with me to find what fit me best and didn’t push me towards anything specific. To anyone in the area i highly recommend stopping in and taking a look. You will not be disappointed, weather your a pen enthusiast or just curious it was well worth my time and money, well spent. definitely going to go back when i get the chance.

To be honest, there aint many stores that carry fountain pens. Modern people like modern pens, even though they got no soul. Now if you want to reconnect to the experience of writing, Id recommend a fountain pen.Their selection of fountain pens range from beginner (Lamy Safari) to more experienced (Pilot, Franklin-Christoph), with a few glass dip pens just for good measure.Whats a pen without ink....kind of like a car with no gas; useless. They have an Ok selection of inks, a number of brands I dont recommend and one I highly recommend (Pilot Iroshizuku).Just about any paper will do. If you feel inclined to go premium they carry one of my favorites (G. Lalo). G Lalo provides the royal courts of Sweden, Holland, Belgium and Monaco with handcrafted stationery. It provides the recipient a special feeling. Not many stores carry G. Lalo, but they have it.Now, I have been in a few fountain pen stores and seen the range of prices. This store is on the high end of prices. Expect to pay retail, which is about 20-25% more than competing retail stores.

This is a wonderful shop!!! I have always had an interest in pens and journals and have purchased more than my wife thinks I should! I found several items including a brand of ink which I thought was no longer being produced. The owner was very helpful and polite and certainly did his best to help everyone in the shop. I certainly did not feel neglected! In fact, I was pleasantly surprised that so many people were frequenting the store while I was there and that people would be interested in writing and writing instruments. I highly recommend this store and the owner.. The selection is wonderful and the prices can fit all individuals needs.

Origami Ink is a unique shop that carries high quality pens, inks, and papers, including stationery for a personal touch. The owners are very knowledgeable about papers, inks, and pens. Not only do they offer a unique selection, but give the opportunity to try the pens in the store before purchase. There is no rush or hurry in your experience. It is secret favorite haunt by locals, and is reminiscence of a small unique shop in Paris. Be sure to look carefully as some of the objects are handcrafted by artisans, and range from small sculptures, to jewelry, to beautiful frames and cards. The upstairs is small, but full of treasures including a not to be missed selection of Japanese papers. Once you experience the quality of the pens, inks, and papers, well it will be hard to return to the ordinary!

I stopped in here while taking a walk through Biltmore Village. This is the kind of store that makes you want to sit down with a cup of your favorite stimulant and do something creative. The journals are not cheap, but they are beautiful. Many are hand made and they are exquisite. I particularly liked the one with the rough-cut paper. They have a great selection of Rhodia products as well as LAMY pens and pencils. There is also a great selection of inks. If you like stationery this is the place for you in Asheville.

Nice store. We went in to purchase a Visconti Vangough as a gift. We were totally ignored. There was one other customer in the store and both of the staff avoided eye contact. I like to purchase from local business when possible and was looking forward to our visit to Asheville and Origami Ink. After about 20 minutes of being ignored, I decided to purchase elsewhere.

I ventured into Origami Ink last Saturday to buy a pen for a young friend who is heading off to graduate school. The young man was very nice and helpful, and made lots of good suggestions, and I was just about to buy a rather more expensive pen than I had planned when another customer walked in and interrupted politely. The sales clerk began to discuss the new customer’s needs while still trying to take care of mine. I had said I was ready to purchase, but the clerk asked if I minded if he take the money from the new customer. I said I did mind, that I was ready to check out and that I would appreciate it if he finished with me first. I was paying cash and not expecting to get a gift wrap. My chosen pen and its box were on the counter in front of the cash register. And yet, he continued to try to organize both sales, taknig time to get the other customers merchandise, turning to the new customer to ask if he would need change and giving him a total. I said, Excuse me, what are you doing? I thought you would finish with my sale first. “I can do both at the same time,” he replied. “No,” I said, “you can’t. I can a present somewhere else.” I left and went to New Morning Gallery and bought one of beautiful Oberon leather journals – which my friend loved! – and at NMG they treated me with the ‘first come, first serve” style of customer service that I expect. I won’t be returning to Origami Ink.

Rhodia, local made leather bound books, inks by Noodler, J Herbin (even the rare sparkly edition), beautiful Italian leather desk goods, what else could you want from a stationary shop? How about a sales associate who looks like he was groomed in 1850 and is knowledgeable about the merch, and who clearly notices the order of waiting customers, giving each one plenty of time in turn. Add in a bit of vaudeville fare to entertain whomever you may have brought along, & this place is one of my new favorites in Asheville.
