This is a beautiful and well kept state park that offers beach access, a hotel, restaurant, and camping. The park is very large and heavily wooded and includes miles of hiking trails and horseback trails. There is a park entrance fee, but an annual park pass is only $50 and grants access to any state park in Indiana. They also have a unique tobogganing ride in the winter!

Great camping experience! Our site was clean, and we really enjoyed the two nights we stayed here! The sites on the hiking trails were gorgeous! Especially now during fall! We appreciated the variety of easy and difficult trails. The nature center is also a treat to visit, where you can learn about and see different animals of the area. The staff of the nature center are very friendly and informative! Overall a great location for camping for anyone!

This is great state park for families. The main beach isn’t too large, but be aware the hike down to the beach is a hill and you will need to climb back up. The beach is on a lake that is built up all around with homes and there is a lot of boating on the lake. The park has an Inn with a nice gift shop and restaurant. We didn’t stay or eat there, so I cannot comment on it other than to say the staff seemed friendly and it the public restrooms were clean. We hiked several trails, which varied from paved and natural trails. They also varied from easy to rugged. I highly recommend trail 3 as it takes you to Hell’s Point and also along Lake Lonidaw. Expect to hike some elevation and stairs. Trail 3 takes you through forest and wetland areas. Most is in the shade, some of the trail along the lake is in the sun. This is a busier state park, but the hiking trails were not crowded.

Really enjoyed this state park! Lots of trail options and the colors in the fall were very pretty. The park is well maintained and a great spot to bring kids, or even just go for a hike. The beach is quite large as well, and very clean from what we saw.

Nice campground, friendly staff. The pull-thru sites we had were short but level. There is so much to do without ever leaving the park (the lake was beautiful, the hiking trails were very well kept; there are guides horse tours, you can rent bikes, pontoon boat, fishing boats, etc). It was a little rowdy during the evening, but everybody settled down and was respectful of all the other campers at quiet time (10pm). We look forward to another trip there.

Loved it. We have 4 kids 6 and under. The pool has a large shallow end as well as the beach. Very scenic area. Usually we have a hard time finding a room large enough for our family but that wasnt the case staying at this parks inn. No kitchen.. but the extra room was nice. The fact that the inn is so close to the gate was nice too... youre 5 minutes from some shopping and extra food options. Perfect for a short getaway... coming back.

Great state park. We have camped there a few times and always had good experiences. The facilities have always been clean and working. The park was quiet at night. On previous trips they had hayrides which were a nice activity when camping. There are plenty of trails to walk. Plenty 9f outlet shopping nearby. The park is also situated on a lake so there are plentyof water activities.

Beautiful, accessible park that seems to be great in all seasons. We went in the winter and really enjoyed the toboggan run and hiking in the snow. Lots of temporary piers on the beach that go out into the lake in the summer.Affordable and lovely

This park has lots of great forest, hills, lakes, trails and things to do. It was our familys first time and we will definitely return. To summarize:+ the campsites were spacious, heavily treed, quiet, close to birds/animals, safe for biking, and serene (we were in the more remote 500s)+ the two beaches were sandy, clean and great for sunning and swimming+ the boat rental was fantastic and cheap (we rented paddle-boards, a paddle boat and kayaks)+ the Poto inn looks great and we look forward to staying there in the future+ the floating cafe The Galley - steaks on the lake looks great and we look forward to trying in the future- online information on the specific campsites is sparse and often inaccurate (the low-res picture did not show that the site was highly uneven, and our slide-out was just fine despite online description prohibiting)- the provided water spigots dispensed light brown water with harmless dissolved iron (which settled in jugs overnight)- showers are warm but not hot enough for some (remainder of the bathroom experience was fine)- the provided maps are not very precise (not showing exact locations of trails)

We love Pokagon State Park. My family has been coming to Lake James for over 20 years and the state park continued to get better. There are great activities and amenities throughout the park. Potawatomi Inn is a nice state park hotel, but its a little run down and could use some investment at this point. It is what youd expect. The state beaches are great on the lake and the campgrounds and park are awesome.

Great state park to check out in the winter time. The toboggan run is an exhilarating experience where you go over 30 mph (I clocked a max speed of 37 mph on my GPS watch) on a refigerated track that can operate even above freezing. You rent by the hour and when we went in a moderately busy day, we were able to do three runs. Pro tip: if you have a pickup truck, you can save yourself carrying the sled over 1/3 of a mile back up the hill. As for the rest of the park, the trails were nice but the overlook from Hells Point was slightly disappointing, although maybe in part because came in with high expectations for the view. We briefly checked out the lake, but it looked very large and worth making a trip again in the summer, this time with my kayak to explore the water.

I am a big fan of our Indiana State Parks. Pokagon is no exception. Ive only visited in the winter during the tobogganing season. The runs are fun, the crowd is friendly and the staff is FAST. The small warming station at the top of the hill is a nice place to gather. I wish it was a little bigger or better organized but it does the job. The run ends at the base of the hill and the Lodge. I really want to get out there one summer or fall because the Lodge is beautiful. It reminds me of those Summer Lodges from the 50s...wood, fireplaces, lake view and lots of sitting areas. Grab a bite to eat, shop in the Gift Store or sit on a rocker with a hot chocolate and enjoy the view. The park also has a bunch of great hiking trails but I have yet to be able to use them...maybe this summer.

The toboggan run is a lot of fun. We arrived a half hour after open on a Sunday and it was already very busy. We had to wait in a line at admission. Then had to wait another 20 minutes to get a toboggan. Waiting in line to get to the top of the track wasnt too bad, maybe another 20 minutes. The ride itself is a little jarring, my friend has back issues and it really aggravated that. I ended up with a small headache but regardless it was a lot of fun! I did not go again because of my headache but other people in our party were able to go again. After their second time, they had to turn the toboggan in because our hour was almost up. Parking costs less than 10.00. There is a bathroom and warming lodge with light refreshments.

As a 90s kid, the old-rustic-lodge interior felt nostalgic. It was awesome being able to show our daughter how things looked & worked from when we were kids ourselves. Theres so many activities to choose from that keeps any family busy. The scenery was so beautiful. We loved swimming in the lake & playing on the beach all day, we got some good color on us. The arts & crafts room has plenty of options, our daughter painted ceramic piggy banks while listening to classic Disney music. The outdoor patios & courtyard were modern, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed walking around & exploring the decorated halls. The gift shop was super cute & has a little something for everyone, I really loved the idea of the fill-a-bag of the vibrant colored rocks for only $5 bucks. The staff was great. Theyre all friendly, helpful & professional (except for one)._Cons_-The pool was fun but could chill on the amount of chlorine & install or use some A/C, as its almost impossible to breathe in the extremely muggy-bleachy air when its 93° outside.-The beds & pillows are not just firm, theyre like a rock. It was nearly impossible to comfortable & woke up with body aches. Our shoulders, necks & hips are so sore from those beds. For the love, get new mattresses.-The deck & patio doors lock from the outside in the evening/night time. Youre able to go out but not get back in & are expected to walk allllllll the way back to the Main Entrance to re-enter the hotel. It was super annoying to keep having to call my Husband to come downstairs to let me back when Id just sit outside or smoke. Huge unfazed raccoons would roam near the patios, so I was not about to walk a mile to the Main Entrance in the dark. Install entrance keycards for the guests to get back in or stop locking us out.-The historic dining room restaurant seemed promising at first but the food was so horrible. We went during the breakfast service time. The potato hash browns were so bland, soggy and cold like they were made a week prior. The scrambled eggs were disgusting & inedible, I had nowhere to spit it out so I chugged my water just to swallow the eggs like a pill & I fought myself to not throw up.The wait staff were very nice & apologetic but the manger on the other hand seemed offended & was only willing to remove one plate off our bill even though all 3 plates were disgusting & untouched.Dont go unless you want to pay for inedible food that ends up in the trash .- Guests who bring their dogs, also bring them to the beach. Some dogs were very well behaved while others would bark non-stop the entire time . Super hard to relax on the beach with an annoying barking dog. Be sure to watch your step on the grass & the beach, some owners like to leave their dogs poop for you to step in . Its gross.
