Found the Jeeninga Museum of Bible and Near Eastern Studies at Anderson University when looking around for things to do when visiting my Dad. Other than a few bible verses relating to artifacts in the museum, its more about ancient civilizations that existed during the time of both the old and new testaments (Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Babylonian, Assyrian and Israelite Periods). Its not a big museum, but has a large collection of authentic pieces (and a few famous historical replicas such as the Rosetta Stone). I enjoyed its display on the evolution of the oil lamp, and how a shiny piece of bronze makes a pretty good mirror. The museum is on University Blvd on the bottom floor of the School of Theology that’s connected to Nicholson Library. Like any college campus, parking is a challenge but there are a few 30 minute spaces in front, and on College St. that are free. The museum is also free and well worth your time if youre a history buff.

There are certainly some interesting and unique pieces in the Gustav Jeeninga collection. I was first recommended a visit by my intro to bible professor. I thought it worth the sight! Though the collection is modest, it is still interesting to see where Gustav Jeeninga went during his lifetime.

Dr Jeeninga was brilliant. He sparked an interest in archeology that I was drawn to.
