I love this zoo, and animal refuge. Every exhibit in the park is alluring and fascinating. My kids love it so much. I love that they are always interested in going. We go just about every Sunday. Porcupine, tigers, wolves, wolverine, snow leopard and Llama (rest easy Caesar) are our must see every time.

Weve been to many zoos and this has to be one of the best.. as far as animal proximity and activity goes. The coyotes were playing with each other, the tigers were walking on our side of the fence (being super active), one of the bald eagles was right next to us at the top walkway, the bear was on our side of the fence playing in the water, etc etc. There was snow on the ground but gravel was put down so it wasnt slippery. We saw two wild bald eagles in a tree. My only complaint would be that the coffee area was closed but I get it... Covid and all. Small zoo but was actually bigger than we expected. Would absolutely recommend.

Unless you were able to come across wildlife in Alaska, how about dropping by to see them at this excellent zoo near the airport? Leopard was so cool.

They were all so nice and very informative. We didnt get to see the polar bear unfortunately. I highly recommend going when you can. It may be a little zoo but they have tons of variety packed in. The animals seem to be well taken care of. This is a wonderful place for people who arent from the area to see all the native wildlife. I recommend getting a park map. It will keep you from back tracking, though we didnt mind seeing the same animals a few times over.

Everybody loves the zoo! I just didnt know when I took my mother, who is in a wheelchair, that I would be pushing her in gravel. Leaving and having to push uphill was excrutiating. This was the first zoo I ever went to where the walkways are not paved. To see the seals, we had to go all the way to the end of the display area and cut back to be able to reach it in a wheelchair. Just a little disappointing.

Do not waste your time or money at the Alaska Zoo. We spent over $40 for our three children and myself and barely saw anything. Most of the pens were empty. Everything that could be chained off, including photo opportunities and playground were unavailable. When at the petting zoo section, the zoo employees allowed children who were apart of their camp into the petting zoo. We waited to ask if our children could do the petting zoo. They were not allowed. It was really unfair to watch a group of many children petting the animals and then be told other children were not able to do so. The only thing the children were happy to see was the harbor seals, so they asked to go see them again. When we walked back the lower section was chained off for no apparent reason. Their were no employees around to ask why we could not see one of the few animals visible and active. SERIOUSLY the WORST zoo we have ever been to! We will not be back ever again.

I love the Anchorage Zoo! Especially Little Rock the Musk Ox. Hes the best! Ill come back every year to say hi to him! The Zoo is doing everything it can to keep people safe during the pandemic. When we went, on a Thursday, there were not many people there at all making it very easy to social distance!

We like the zoo enough that we got an annual membership despite living an hour away. We enjoy seeing the bigger animals there, but there are quite the selection! Moose, caribou, yak, deer, grizzly bear, polar bear, black bear, musk ox, tiger camel... so many more! My daughters current favorite is Cranberry, the polar bear, however, I really enjoy the seals and otters.

Llamas, musk ox, camels, wolves, snow leopards, tigers, bears, owls, porcupines and hawks are a few of the amazing animals residing at the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage. All northern clime animals, so dont expect to see a penguin nor a monkey. Takes about an hour-and-a-half to see everything, although many people sray longer. Theres a playground for younger kids, a petting zoo area (limited opening) picnic area and coffee shop with hot drinks and homemade snacks in addition to packaged food to warm up on chilly days. Our last trip was on a mildly rainy day, and the animals were more active and interested in their fresh birch tree treats than when its hot and sunny out.

To start this review positively the animals look healthy, and the Polar Bear Exhibit is being updated. This being Alaskas only zoo, I figure it would have more government assistance and funding.• Online lists only 18 species of animals at the zoo. (Which almost caused me not to go.)• The exhibits werent marked correctly• Most Exhibits were cluttered or dirty• The whole time I was visiting, I only saw 2 people working outside.• Most of the Zoo feels like youre looking at someones private collection in their backyard.(If thats the case.. then at least make it feel like a zoo if thats what youre marketing it as.)• The Paths around the exhibits dead end in weird places and its not stated as so. The paths are just common gravel, so it wouldnt be expensive to continue a path to a possible beneficial route to the exit.I give it 3 stars because overall the animals didnt seem in distress and they looked healthy. It needs serious work though.

Review №56

The enclosures are horrendous for the animals. The bear enclosure is ridiculously small for three bears. There is no place for them to scratch theirselves, no place for them to get away from visitors, and no way for them to stimulate themselves. When I went there they were all swaying their heads, a sign of stress in captivity for bears. They have no plants, no place to play in the water (except for the tiny excuse of a creek barely running through their enclosure). Its sickening and sad to think that these bears have to spend the rest of their lives in this enclosure. I highly suggest going to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center instead of this disgusting animal prison, where they actually care for their animals.

There are a lot of good exhibits of animals that are native to the far north. The walk from one exhibit to the next is very enjoyable. The forest setting feels natural to what you are here to enjoy. I do wish that there were more detailed learning opportunities. These are seriously the most fun paint jobs Ive ever seen in a public restroom, though.

I went to their night exhibit a couple days after the start of a new year. They had charming light/LED decorations (shaped like animals) throughout the zoo, and they had a surprising amount of active night animals.
