Elwood is located inside Rieman Gardens on the Iowa State campus near the football stadium. It is a beautiful, relaxing place to visit. You can walk through the butterfly habitat. You wind through beautiful outdoor gardens as you make your way back to Elwood. Expansions and improvements are underway. If you are in Ames, Iowa this is definitely worth a visit.
The gardens around the gnome are beautiful and its nice to see people enjoying everything. When we went it wasnt very crowded so we really took our time. Its a great place for a photoshoot
Dude...if you like gnomes..you have to meet Elwood hes the biggest freaking gnome on the planet. He may not be one for conversation but he is cool with taking photos with people. I wish the gift shop had some Elwood specific items to sell like shot glasses or mini Elwood figures...but all in all meeting Elwood was awesome and the gardens there were beautiful.
The gnome is novel and entertaining. Check out the Reiman butterfly wing nearby.
Elwood the Gnome is a hilarious touch to a stunning location, and finding him takes you through a storybook landscape with plenty to see.
How are there so many negative reviews for our beloved Elwood?!?! This is just simply unacceptable! Yes, Elwood is located inside Reiman Gardens, and yes, that means a $9 admission price (current 2018 prices) for the public. If you want to see Elwood for free, get an ISU ID or look at all of his posted pictures (ones posted here from me). To my knowledge, Elwood still holds the record for being the worlds largest concrete gnome, and he is pretty friggin big.
This is a beautiful garden with kinetic sculptures and even a butterfly house
Rainy day and in area for concert a good time killer and a few pics. I thought it was pretty cool. Admission is what it is being privately funded. Do complain just enjoy notice some cheap visitors complaining of the entrance fee get real nothing is free anymore.
Was fun to visit and it was the first time Brad looked small.
He resides in a beautiful garden on the Iowa State campus.
The worlds largest garden gnome happens to be in an amazing botanical garden with a large butterfly house. Go to see the gnome, stay for the delight of the rest of the place.
Located within a botanical garden, it is really big.
The gardens were beautiful and the gnome was a fun secret
Kind of over rated. Not that big or cool looking. Also hard to find and get near.
It adds so much character to the gardens, definitely a must see in Ames! Its included in the admissions to the gardens and butterfly exhibit. The gardens take a few hours to walk through, its worth the $8 admission! (Free with student ID as well!)
I was not expecting the butterfly arboretum. The gardens, statues and grounds were better than I had expected. We got lots of good information and ideas for our own gardens at home.
Beautifully cultivated gardens. An enjoyable area to relax.
This is a very nice place to visit at ISU
To the person who wrote the review saying its not the largest......they state its the largest concrete gnome and the one you refer to, is the largest scrap metal gnome. I’m team Elwood all the way.
Worth the trip to Ames.
Bigger than I even expected
Not actually the largest gnome, largest gnome resides in nanoose bay, bc, CANADA....
We got there at 5 but it closes at 430 and we didnt know its a paid attraction only!!!! $4 per person!! And you cant even see it outside :(
Beautiful place, and very interesting and entertaining for all ages.
Thought it would be bigger.
Hes huge
We just wanted a photo, but you had to pay $8 admission to the university gardens to see it.
Its one of those things where you go,why does this exist?
Surprisingly fun
