I have two kiddos- we just tried out the toddler soft room and really enjoyed our time there. It was $5 per child and well worth it. They also have an open gym area for older kids/toddlers. Overall the room was clean and the center seemed to be staffed nicely. We will definitely be coming back!

We love the rec center! It is a daily part of our lives in North old town. The staff are always willing to go above and beyond and are very friendly and helpful. It’s always such a nice treat to see friendly faces and know we live in a true community.

Its the best...everything I needed was right there...great place for children to be social...

The facility was perfect for the baby shower venue. Plenty of space, bathrooms were clean. Staff was very accommodating.

The recreation center is immaculate with covering all of your basic Community needs for encouraging growth.The boxing gym is perfect. Coach Porter is a very nice and respectable guy and anyone in this field should take his advice, is very valuable.

New Years thing was expensive and not much to do. $5 to get in, $5, 5, 5 more, $9 for a sailboat. I was broke when I walked in lol. Gentrification is this.

Charles Houston is one of the newest City recreation facilities in Alexandria. They offer several rooms that can be rented for private use including a large multipurpose room with AV hookups, arts & crafts room and dance studio. The center also houses a professional boxing club, senior citizen center, teen room, workout room with exercise equipment & free weights and a large gymnasium. A child friendly outdoor pool with 2 lap lanes is open during the singer months. All features are offered at discounted rates to Alexandria residents including an array of programs, camps, fitness and other classes.

Nice and clean. We go there to exercise on Sundays since they are one of the few rec centers open that day. They have treadmills, weight lifting, and other exercise machines. They also have gaming room, and basketball court among other things. Had no issues finding parking in the lot. No wifi signal in the exercise room in case you plan on bringing a tablet. Daily/monthly/quarterly passes available which can be used in few other rec centers in Alexandria.

They have a soft play room for babies/toddlers that costs $5 for Alexandria residents and $10 for non-residents. I highly recommend it. There is a parking lot for the rec center so you dont have to deal with parking on the street.

Huge gym doubles as formal banquet hall. Not the best acoustics. Nice community rec center.

My experiences at Charles Houston have always been great.

It is a good space and the bouncy houses are fun. Could use some supervision to make sure all toys are out and being shared

This is a wonderful community resource. We use it once a week for the fitness room. The fitness room has lots of weights/weight machines, 4 treadmills, 4 elipticals, and 3 stationary bikes. The fitness room has large windows that face outwards which give the room light and make it more inviting than the other alexandria rec centers fitness facilities. The center has wifi but it doesnt extend to the fitness room, unfortunately. The center also has a large gym for shooting hoops, a boxing club with a boxing ring and bags, and a teen room.

Best place for swim lessons for little ones in the summer.

The pool is small. You may not eat in the pool area, so if you have little ones be prepared for that. When you check-in to go to the swimming pool the reception is rude and slow... Im assuming that she doesnt appreciate people coming to the swimming pool. Some of the guards recognized kids from the previous year and I thought that was really impressive. The guards here seem to stay on task and watching the pool and there are multiple guards at One time.It is a great, little place to cool off here in old town

One of the receptionists is very rude. I had called earlier and spoke with the most delightful lady over the phone about the amenities at Charles Houston, so when I stopped by in person for more information, I was shocked when the receptionist treated me with suspicion (as though I werent a resident of Alexandria), and then tried to sell me a fitness membership.The other source of concern is the lack of spaces open to the community for free. If this is a community center and not a private institution, why is everything priced, and overpriced at that? This is the first community center Ive seen that isnt actually open to the community.

I have only been here for community meetings, but it seems that there are many programs and opportunities for the local community to take part in. Will have to check it out more.

We usually use the pool on weekdays. Twice my sunglasses got stolen, and once my car got badly scratched. Otherwise it is a good place to go.

Have been involved and also volunteered at numerous Senior Centers . The director made me feellike I was under investigation for a crime when I meet with her to join . Made me very uncomfortable in a place that was to help newcomers feel welcome . This place did not show any signs of diversity.I went over to St Martins and Loved it . So now I have to travels miles away to enjoy a day out .
