Celebrated a birthday here and participated in the Wizard room. I have to say that the background story is a key element to making the room exciting. It was my first visit to this location, but it will not be my last. Looking forward to scheduling another visit as soon as possible.

We had kids, ages 8-11, for a room rated a 5 out of 10 on degree of difficulty. While I, the lone adult enjoyed it for the puzzle, it was too much for the kids to solve, although they did enjoy trying. Seems like it is an experience more geared towards adult thinking and puzzle-solving. So, while fun, my kids wont be coming back. I might bring some work colleagues next time, though.

This place is awesome. Shiloh was our host and she was spectacular. She was super friendly, very helpful, and made our experience worth it. We will be making a second trip and recommending to friends and family. Thank you Shiloh for an amazing experience.

Celebrated my daughters 13th birthday here and we all really enjoyed it! They had the wizard themed room, which was not scary but had a perfect combination of mystery and surprise clues that made them jump. Even our 4 year old enjoyed and was really into helping the girls find clues.Overall a great place for a family escape room experience and Id bet the other rooms are just as good for older groups. Only issue with this location is parking can be hard to find so arrive early or be prepared to pay for a garage!

My team and I noticed the clock was set for 45 minutes when the door closed. No worries, well ask about it once the game master calls at the 15 minute mark. When he called, we asked why we were 15 minutes short on the clock. Apparently, the game master takes 7 minutes to brief and 7 minutes to debrief the room. This is absurd. Most experienced players will tell you that you are always given an hour to escape. When I brought this up I was told that they do this for time management purposes. So the players are docked time because staff cant manage time well? When given the answer to this question I was told they can do it because they charge less than their competitors. Which is not true. Im a nerd and love escape rooms. Ive visited almost every escape room within a 40 mile driving distance. They do not charge less on average than their competitors. Also, I should mention that at no point before we entered the room were we told that we would only have 45 minutes to escape. This is horrible business management and misleads anyone is used to doing escape rooms. I also would never want someone who is new to doing escape rooms to come here.

One of the best escape room businesses in Northern Virginia. Great staff, a lot of options, clever puzzels and a lot of good food nearby. I especially enjoyed the Sherlock and Poe rooms.

My group of 4 did the Wizards Apothecary and were pretty disappointed. I have done at least 8 escape rooms and this one (which the difficulty was labeled as 5/10) was harder than any other one in the past. I know youre probably reading this and saying, you had 4 people, what did you expect? However, because of the unclear instructions, we couldnt even get started correctly.The moderator of our room was unprofessional. After she hurried through the instructions before we began, she made a joke, saying, Ive done eight of these today. Its 9:45pm guys, Im trying to get out of here. Because she had hurried through the instructions, we didnt understand how to ask for hints, which really delayed us in the rest of the process. On top of that, a few of the steps in the process were just mind boggling. I am not going to go into details as that is against the rules, but one of the members in the group also has done a ton of escape rooms, and we both had our jaws drop when they told us the steps that we didnt get to to complete the room.If I had to give some advice before visiting this location, it would be to maybe bring a FULL group, and clarify with the moderator before starting the room on how to ask hints, as it was very different from other escape rooms Ive gone through. If that had been clear, maybe our experience wouldve been more positive. The room itself and location was incredibly decorated, and I think if wed had a better moderator, we wouldve been able to come to the solution.

Great place for 10 yo birthday party. The party space looked great without decorations but we were able to add simple personal touches. The staff were great & helpful. I would definitely recommend to any family.

One thing they do not tell you is that parking is atrocious at this location. Everything is paid parking, even on the street and good luck finding even that. We ended up finding a parking garage and walking a few blocks back to the building. The building is not clearly labeled, we actually passed it twice until we realized where it was. All this made us late for our scheduled room, despite arriving to the area 20 min early. We only had 30 min by the time we got there which was including our instructions. It was impossible to complete in such a time crunch. I was underwhelmed by this visit and disappointed I spent so much to reserve a room. Their props were cool and the concept is great so Im still giving a middle ground review. I just think their faqs should suggest where to park to avoid people arriving late and cutting into their time. I did extensive research prior to booking and nothing suggested parking would be an issue.

We had a blast in the Poe-Ranormal room! Our game master Laura was very engaging and made the experience superb. As a Poe fan I found this room to be very entertaining, both due to the Victorian decor, and the puzzles. The whole venue is fun thanks to the quirky decor that puts you in right mood the moment you get there. I absolutely recommend this!

We had a blast! We were able to solve our way out of the room with some time to spare (2 adults, 5 kids). I enjoyed the experience. There was a good variety of puzzles to allow all ages to participate and have fun. The waiting area were clean and attractive! It got us excited about starting the room. The staff watching us gave us a good laugh near the end! Overall great experience. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

This was a great place nestled in old Town Alexandria. It was my first time there. The welcome was warm and the staff was friendly. The place was clean and it set the mood. We tried the Sherlock Holmes room and we didnt make it out but we were all so close. I will come back and try another room again.

So disappointed!!! First, there was no time . How can you escape in time if you dont even know how much time youve spent? Second, we would ask for clues, but kept getting the same response. Third, we would have escaped but the last clue was confusing!! We would love to try another room with hopefully a better experience.Update: Ive sent 3 emails to the requested email address and have received no response.

I love this place! My honey and I have been here a few times now, and each time has been a lot of fun. The puzzles are challenging and rewarding - the staff are always a lot of fun to work with too. If youre in need of a place to try an escape room, this is a great option. Parking can be a bit of a bear, though, so keep that in mind.Accessibility-wise, there is an elevator and everything is on the same level! The hallways may be a little narrow, but every puzzle Ive been in has had a place to sit, so if youre using a mobility aid it shouldnt be too harrowing. Also, single-stall restrooms!

2 adults 2 kids had the whole room for ourselves. We were trying to figure out what happened to Sherlock. It was very stimulating. You need every brain and eyes you can get and in our case we werent able to finish it on time. 45 minutes passed by so fast. Our game master was helpful and gave us hints through the old telephone on the desk when we needed. This is a great activity for special days and groups of 4-8.

The puzzle was difficult but solvable! The person we worked with made the experience even better by really getting into character.

I had no idea what to expect when we booked our night here! My parents were in town visiting and love old town Alexandria, so the location was perfect! We were probably the very last group of the night, so it was quiet! The staff were so full of energy and so into the characters they played, it made the experience even better! We did the wizard one, which isnt the hardest, but it was still challenging! They help you if you need it, but also let you struggle for a while (which is good)! The room is kind of small, so enough though they say 8 can play one room at once, I wouldnt recommend more than like 4 or 5! So much fun for a date night, or a group of friends, or even if you have people visiting from out of town! 10/10 recommend!!

Saqqara was our game master, and she did a bang up job. The puzzles were challenging, interesting, and fun, and she was excellent at timing when we would need a hint. If you were curious, we did, in fact, save the world. A sincerely fun way to spend an hour - I recommend you try it!

So much fun, selected this as a venue for a friends birthday and was not disappointed. The room was complex but solvable and the Gamemaster was attentive to out team.

This was an amazing experience for me. I’d never been to an escape room, so I had no expectations; nevertheless, I was still surprised at how much fun it was. I can recommend this wholeheartedly!

Went ahwhile back as a date night idea. It was 4 adults in our group. We were paired with a family of four (two adults, two children) and it was honestly the worst time. We decided to do the Poe room. Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I were separated which really took away from the nice date took aspect of it. The room I was stuck in included myself, my two friends, and the father from the other group. The father took it upon himself to take control of every single situation not allowing anyone else to give input which really sucked the fun out of it. In the other room, it was my boyfriend, the mother and two children. His experience was so much worse. Anytime he went to touch something, the kids would run up, snatch it, and cry out “hey, I wanna turn.” Needless to say there was no progress made in escaping. When the parents would yell at the kids to let the adults give it a whirl, they moped and complained. I can see how this would have been fun if I had rented the room as a whole for our group, but otherwise, I don’t think I’ll be back.

The staff should be trained on how to be in the service industry....and on how to communicate....and on how to not be snippy, arrogant and jerky. NEVER will I go here again.

Creatively decorated rooms and intuitive clues. I’ve only completed one room here but our group of 6 had a great time solving the puzzles. Nice waiting area and they have good specials on pricing. The location is fantastic on King St. in Old Town Alexandria.

Extremely fun!! The game masters were full of energy and enthusiasm. We were paired with 5 others then split off into 2 small groups. We had to work together to escape. Overall we had an amazing time. Cant wait till we come back for another room to escape from

An incredible experience! This was so much fun and it was due in part by the atmosphere but in large by the staff. They make you feel so welcome. The room setup was nothing short of genius. Our group will be returning!

I think the guide (I am terrible with names, but he was a tall AA guy and he was awesome!) said that this was one of the easier rooms that we did. What I liked about this one compared to the two I have done in Richmond was the fact that the guide was in character. It seems like a small difference but it really made for more of a realistic feel I think.Also, it was nice having different sections of seating for different groups. Also, the woman at the front desk was super nice as well. My friends and I had a great time and I definitely enjoyed Escape Room Lives attention to detail. Thanks!

Greeted promptly. Staff very friendly. Enjoyed Moriartys Madness experience with 4 people in our room. Solved the puzzle before time ran out. Had some laughs...enjoyed the challenge. Would definitely return. They even included a hidden birthday message for our daughter.

Our group had an amazing time. The staff was very accommodating and we were able to have a semi private room for our group to meet and greet over a meal.

The room was well themed and the puzzle was well put together. It was rated an 8/10 which proved to be very difficult but fun. The staff was very good at setting up the theme and helping when asked. We will definitely be back.

Fun for all ages. Staff is professional and personal, the manager Chris is great to talk to. Went for my brothers birthday and played Moriarty. Our game host Eleazar was helpful. We liked having our picture taken at the end by the host Ethan who was nice and sweet. Hopefully Im not spoiling anything but i cant forget the Detective Secretary Rochelle, she was hilarious. She kept giving my husband and brother the business, I loved it. Parking is kinda hectic tho, so I suggest metro.

In the end, we solved our room with almost 20 minutes to spare and if we could have, we would have immediately done another but alas, it was closing time. Love the story and the staff, would highly recommend the experience to anyone who likes puzzles.

Really fun event. They lock you in a room and you have to solve puzzles and figure out how to get out. The inside of the building looked very nice and the rooms were nicely decorated as well. There was a detailed explanation that explained how to play the game appropriately. Required a lot of critical thinking and problem solving. So much fun!

Me and four of my friends went to Escape Rome Live and escaped from Moriartys Madness. We made sure to be 15minutes early as was recommended for orientation. It was mostly to introduce us to our guide and the rules that needed to be followed. We had 45minutes to complete our task to get out of the room. We finished and had almost 20minutes remaining. We all had a lot of fun and I think it went a lot faster because everyone was trying to figure out things either on their own or groups of two. We quickly solved most of the puzzles. There were a couple that took us a little longer but eventually figured out. If your looking for a fun group activity this was definitely worth it.

This was such a fun experience. We went with a group of friends and escaped. It was pretty hard and there were a lot of things thats were fairly complex to figure out. I expected it to be kind of easy but the room is set up really well. The staff was great and we had a blast. I highly recommend trying it but dont expect to just cruise through it.

Ive done 3 other escape rooms and I was excited about this one because they claim to be #1 in DC and had tons of good reviews. Even paid the extra amount to go to this one over a competitors. But overall I was very disappointed. The facility itself was very appealing, the lobby is beautiful and the rooms look prettycool but the puzzles themselves and the tasks are just elementary. For a group of 5 there was not nearly enough going on to entertain everyone. Also there wasnt a second part to the room and that was disappointing, we just stayed in the same spot the whole time. The employee working with our group was warm, friendly and in character but would call to give us hints instead of waiting for us to call her to ask for them (part of the fun is getting stuck). We finished almost 10 minutes early and for a room that is short to begin with (45 min), I would say it is not worth the money for only 35 minutes of escape room. Im usually not one to write reviews but with such a high rating and price tag I expected WAY more and I wish I would have known. The couple who was placed with my group had the same reaction leaving the place so Im surprised the reviews dont reflect that.

Brilliant. We did Poe room, featured puzzles-within-puzzles-within more puzzles. We were three people, teamed with group of four we didnt know -- two couples. It takes real teamwork to solve things sequentially, multiple skills of observing/analyzing/assembling clues into usable information. It was fun getting organized and helping each other, no egos or BS, working against the clock.

We had a wonderful experience. The Wizzard room we played was challenging, but our two granddaughters were able to figure out many of the clues. The difficulty was just right.

Made it start of a date night, really fun with a great atmosphere. Get your brain cells going and have something with talking about afterward

This company is great. Ive been to both this location and the one in Georgetown- the game is always fun, and the employees are always amazing! The waiting room is stylish and stocked with games, and although this location doesnt have a bar like Georgetown, it is within easy walking distance of many bars and restaurants!

There guys are amazing. Ive done two escape rooms here and have loved the service at each. The themes are always great and have never been disappointed.

Went with a group of 5. Did the wizard room. Had a blast. Didnt finish but still had a great time. Will be back very soon

Pretty fun. More of guided and monitored puzzles as opposed to built puzzles that are self solvable so more about the lore of the room as opposed to standard puzzle solving skills

My cousins and I had fun and enjoyed ourselves even though we didnt escape the room. 45 minutes go by really quickly when youre stuck in a clue..lol The staff was very nice and helpful. Even when people came to the wrong escape room{address}, they politely directed them to the correct location. I would definitely visit this location again.

We did the sorcerers room as a family to celebrate my sons high school graduation. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and the room was filled with fun details and intrigue. Ive done many escape rooms, but the ambiance at this one was heads above the others!

Super fun! Our group did the Edgar Allen Poe Room and Ive been to other Escape Rooms. This one was great because the room coordinator had a walkie-talkie with our group and was able to point us in the right direction when we were super stuck. She was way more interactive than other room coordinators which made the experience less frustrating. The venue and overall experience was great!

The staff was great, the puzzle was well thought out, and the facility was clean. We did the poe-ranormal puzzle, it was pretty difficult! We had a great time.

This was fun. We found these rooms to be much harder/larger/more intricate than the ones in Georgetown which was great. We had a small issue with our room (which we were happily going to overlook) and they provided over the top customer service to accommodate. I would definitely recommend this for a group outing.

Generally a really great escape room experience! A little disappointed that Moriartys Madness was only one room, but the decor was professional and well done, as were the puzzles and clues in the room. Definitely will come again to try the other rooms!

We had a great time I was a little disappointed that our game master missed that we solved a clue in the first ten minutes. When we did the action nothing happened so we assumed it was a fake out. Later on when we called for a clue she said we didnt complete the action which we did and to try it again. When we did it again a door opened on a shelf with more clues and we would have solved the room but at that point we only had five minutes left. Another time one of the clues was stuck in the cylinder and after five minutes she came in to get it out. I was the game master paid more attention as it cost us from solving the room in time.

Ive completed two rooms here (Sherlock, and the very creepy Edgar Allen Poe room), and its been a blast both times. I would suggest going with a group of friends - its so much more fun if you work through puzzles with your buds! Its pricey for 45 minutes of fun, but its a truly original experience and very memorable. Parking is solely on busy streets, so Uber if you can or drive if you must. The staff are excited to be there, and definitely add to the fun. All in all, an unqualified recommend!

What can I say?? Its an escape room. We went there for my nephews 14th birthday and we had the Paranormal Room, which is one of the more difficult rooms to escape from. We all had fun trying to solve the puzzles. And it was a good activity for all ages. The staff there are amazingly friendly!!! Check it out if you havent yet and like puzzles.

We did the Sherlock Holmes one. There are four of us and three from another group. It was fun and not too hard once you know what to look for.

This is one of the many fun things you can so in Alexandria and it is perfect for teens and young adults. Highly recommend you try.

No spoilers, but if he had known what the twist was for the Poe room, my boyfriend would *not* have chosen that room for my birthday present. We love puzzles and have done a pretty hard escape room before, but this was difficult in a frustrating, not-very-fun way. I would have MUCH preferred if the detectives could ask their staff member for help if they got stuck, rather than being interrupted every 5 minutes with a hint. It got very annoying and just made us both more frustrated. The escape room itself and the larger facility were very nice, though. Excellent set design and some really cool use of technology and special effects. Wed still like to come back and try an easier room, and maybe ask our guide if they could not give us unsolicited clues.

Best way to spend an hour trapped inside! A group of friends and I solved the Po-anormal Activity room. Granted, we did not have the fastest time, but wee completed the tasks and escaped the room with time to spare. With well thought out puzzles, great room themes, and a great fun-loving staff, I cant wait to solve another room!

Awesome experience with my coworkers. We did it more as a fun way for team building exercises. We all had a blast and are already trying to decide when to do it again. And considering its Old Town, our room was a decent size for the 10 of us.

I love their atmosphere.. amazing job with the interior design! I wish they give u the full hour to solve the puzzles like in other places (shorten the story telling and let us use that time for solving).Parking can be a bit of a hazzle.I dont recommend doing the full 8 people..Yes technically it can fit 8 people but it gets very crowded and disorganized.
