I grew up running the streets of watervliet, new york just a couple miles north and a quick jog east of Albany Rural. Almost all of my moms side of the family is buried there. My mom is buried there right beside my aunt helen. I live in north carolina now but am being cremated. hopefully Albany Rural will allow my urn to go into her grave.

We visited President Chester A. Arthurs Memorial Tomb, located in Section 24, Lot 8 to pay our respects to our Nations 21st President becoming President after James A. Garfield was assassinated. A man with a history filled life, we salute you. May you rest in peace

We had heard that the 21st President of the United States was buried here. The office staff was helpful and gave us a map of the cemetery and we drove right to it. This place is huge and some of the headstones are quite elaborate.

Very beautiful cemetery in menands ny that is the size of central park in manhattan as it will take you all day to see all the graves here. There are multiple entrances and exits here, st agnes cemetery next door and a Jewish cemetery next door. Heads up, a train crossing comes through here and it is active, the owner lives on site, menands police dept patrols here regularly, and do not come here after dark as it is easy to get lost, the police will arrest you if you are caught by them in the dark, coyotes in the woods and other wild animals, stay on the paths and roadways at all times, multiple roadways that have collapsed in this cemetery including a road in the middle ridge section next to the burden family vault, steep dropoffs here too!

Beautiful cemetery but they don’t keep up on the mowing anymore. I have to go over myself to cut the grass. They mow the entrance so it looks good from the road. Very saf

Its a beautiful cemetery with a lot of historical figures, both local and national. Its a great place to get immersed in nature and history, and a great place to relax. Unfortunately, there are several irresponsible dog owners who let their dogs off-leash (despite the posted signs and the leash law), and let them defile the cemetery, and dont even clean up after them. I walk my dogs here as well, and I feel like its just disrespectful. Thats no fault of the cemetery though.

Albany Rural Cemetery is a very peaceful place to visit. The cemetery is well cared for and amazingly they continuously in the process of repairing the deteriorating stones. Each season brings a special treat to those who visit with blooming flowers, birds, and trees in full dress. I n the Autumn the trees put on a show and decorate the tombstone in reds, yellows, oranges, and greens. In the winter everything is decorated in white. In the spring once again flower buds, green grass begins to cover the ground once again, bees begin to hum, and birds sing in the trees. Amongst death life abounds. If you get a chance, I would recommend stopping by the cemetery, take a walk around, read the tombstones, and visit the waterfalls and wooded trails. They would welcome donations, I am sure, to repair those civil war stones that have seen better days.
