Fantastic restored home. Volunteers are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. There are so many things to see in the house. Love the details in the chandeliers. Some are gas and some are electric. A few are both! Plan on about 90 minutes if you go. That would be plenty of time to see it.Well worth the visit. Close to downtown Akron.

Ive been to dozens of historic homes and Hower House is one of my favorites. The home is unique and beautifully furnished. The volunteers that conduct the tours and run the gift shop are friendly and knowledgeable. The most outstanding feature for me though was that they offered chairs to sit on in almost every room, which was essential for my elderly mother to enjoy our visit.

Wish I could give zero stars. Self-guided is not truly that; the monitors literally follow right behind you, because according to one of them, they have to keep an eye on people. Almost thirty dollars to be treated poorly, followed around like thieves and to be yelled at by a monitor when we refused to listen to their guided tour even though we paid for a self guided one. Rich was apologetic and the only reason we stayed; he should interact with the public and not these monitors. We have taken self guided tours at much more ornate homes and have never been followed from room to room. The director excused the monitors behavior by saying some have more experience than others. Kindness and respect for paying customers doesnt require any experience! Wish I could get my time and money back which could help erase the memory of a particularly horrible visit. After many years of visits, we will never come back.

Expensive. Although advertised as self guided tour, we were followed and told that docent was there in case of questions. VERY awkward, particularly when docent follows your every move and stands in an adjacent room and peeks around the corner at you. After 10 yearly visits, we wont be returning.
