Reyes Adobe was the first home built in Agoura Hills back in 1850. The home was built by Jose Paulino Reyes, grandson of Juan Francisco Reyes, a Mexican soldier with the Portola expedition who was granted local land in 1837. The City of Agoura Hills purchased the site in 1983 and maintains the adobe as a museum and cultural center.Historical marker inscription:Daughters of the American Revolution commemorate the significant role the Reyes Adobe historical site played in the development of California and its history. The property was a stop along the states famous El Camino Real.

Love CA history. Hours are an absolute bummer. Would have liked to see inside but appreciate the preserved house/land.

Beautifully restored Adobe and barn, which is now used as the visitors center. Free to visit and great tour by the docent.

I learned about The Reyes Adobe via the Passport 2 History which has many local museums and historical sites in it that you wouldnt know existed! I always try to be fair in my rating system and rate things based off their potential. For example, I recently rated the (somewhat) nearby Pleasant Valley Historical Society Museum and Botanical Gardens a 5 because theyre really doing the most with what they have. I hate to give a free museum less than 4 stars, but there just wasnt that much to do or see at this one. They had some cool things, but really nothing hands on.The tour begins with a 10 minute video, which we didnt make it through as I had my 3 year old with us. The house itself had some neat things to see, and I learned some interesting things... The highlights for me was learning that the phrase sleep tight comes from the old beds that literally are on ropes that you can adjust! And that the bread was divided based on status... the workers got the more burnt bottom part, and so on up, which is where we get the upper crust. Make sure you see the original mission bell outside that was moved here for an eagle scout project in 1988. Also, the artifacts in the original barn (where the welcome center is) is probably the coolest part. I really enjoyed the room behind the main room that has special events. That room was pretty relaxing for some reason.After visiting a bunch of these, I just felt that The Reyes Adobe was a bit less exciting than the others with less to do. I hear they have an amazing Halloween festival, so well have to check that out! If youre into history, this is definitely a place you can explore. I would personally bundle this in with a few surrounding museums and that will make for a nice day! But my toddler wasnt really having this one.Very nice folks who worked here though! A+ for them!

I came here to do a weaving demo for the Reyes Adobe Historic event in October. The park surrounded the house and was well kept the house was very interesting and we weavers were on the back porch under an Arbor. The event is for families lots of activities for the childern with prizes. It is free and lots of fun. Live bands food trucks petting zoo blacksmith everyone was HAPPY!

The museum volunteers were very rude to my group when we visited. Aside from that the place is nice looking

Its taken decades to uplift and maintain this site. With the park nearby its a great community space.

Calling this place a historical museum is like calling Agoura Hills a major metropolitan city
