My family and I were very happy with our recent stay at the George Washington. The staff was friendly and practiced great safety precautions. The room was clean, beautiful, and spacious. The hotel has a fabulous location, being walking distance to many restaurants and stores. The only 2 negatives were: the sofa bed was very uncomfortable for my teenage daughters and the pool water was a bit chilly (I would recommend that they increase the temp since the hot tub is closed). Overall we were very happy with our stay and would encourage others to stay at this hotel and to visit this fun, charming town!

I stayed here with my niece in June of 2020 and I was so pleased that I decided to go with my husband for my bday weekend in mid September... the town is ADORABLE, LOVABLE, FRIENDLY, etc. But the hotel has taken a turn for the worse somewhere during this summer. The front desk was extremely unhelpful- 2 girls did anything possible to not speak to anyone or accommodate any requests. I believe it was pure laziness but idk.. the rooms are clean and amazing! I wish the front desk would have represented the company in a good mannered way.

Elegant HotelThe hotel stands out as an elegant building in a historic section of town. Parking is convenient in the rear at $10 per night. You are greeted by friendly staff, although behind glass and masked, but friendly. The spacious lobby is beautiful and majestic with the street-level bar adjacent. Our room was fourth floor overlooking a construction site on the main road. We had a double queen room furnished with high quality beds and chairs in the style you would consider historic colonial. The room and bathroom were very clean with fresh towels and toiletries. The room was surprisingly quiet considering we were overlooking a truckers highway. Since the hotel was rather empty we opted to pass on the George Restaurant to find more people and a livelier atmosphere on the pedestrian mall one block away. Certainly not the hotels fault but this was a major disappointment as half the storefronts were vacant, only three restaurants open on Sunday evening, and a host of homeless vagrants hanging around. Actually, we found the neighborhood to be more uncomfortable than historic. I would recommend staying here and dining here for sure. Nice place!

Stayed here for two nights. Absolutely perfect stay. Our room (junior suite) was very nice with gas fireplace and large jacuzzi tub. The bed was one of the most comfortable we’ve ever stayed in. Parking lot in rear was easily accessible. Felt very clean and safe given COVID during our stay. Ice machines on floor 3 and 5 FYI. We look forward to making another trip to Winchester and will definitely book this hotel again. There’s a lovely pedestrian mall just a block over from the hotel with shops and restaurants.

We spent one night in this beautiful hotel but will definitely stay every time we pass through this area. The rooms are beautiful, very clean and spacious. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We left my husbands pill box in the room when we left and the hotel went above and beyond to make sure my husband had his meds. They sent them to us overnight. I can’t say enough about our stay here.

My wife and I booked a two room suite here back in September 2020 to stay for our wedding night. When placing the booking, we made sure to note the reason for our stay (expecting some form of special treatment). When friends and family heard we were staying here, they were so excited. They and the reviews were glowing to say the least. Sadly we will not be returning. Our room, simply put, was dirty. There was a used make-up sponge left on the floor, coffee drips down the wall, mildew in the shower, peeling paint, and gray smudges on the couch in the adjoining room (that I assume are from previous guest luggage). In addition to that, we decided to order room service with the provided menu in the room. Upon attempting to call to put our order in, we waited nearly five minutes. There was no answer. When checking out, we made sure to notify them of the state of their room (we should have said something sooner, but after the wedding we were so tired we fell asleep almost instantly). They were gracious enough to take $100 off of our stay. We kept checking for the bill on our credit card but it was over three weeks before the charged our card. I think its important during COVID that cleanliness be taken seriously. With that in mind, I would not recommend staying here based on our experience.

Our room never got cooler than 77 degrees and was stuffy and uncomfortable. We booked the king suite with the gorgeous jacuzzi tub and rainfall and jet shower. It was very disappointing that we sat in the living room sweating bullets and cannot sleep because it is too uncomfortable. The front desk said the hotel has an old air conditioning system and has to be turned down slowly. We tried and this still did not work. The return air was covered in dust and I am curious if the air filters have been properly maintained.

Fabulous historic hotel in downtown Winchester. Great half-way point for those making a Deep South to New England trip. Gorgeous pool reminiscent of a Roman Bath, nice attached restaurant, cool bar. Parking is tight, just a tiny lot out back. When it fills up, theres a small lot for $5, or a parking garage for $10. If youre the last to arrive on a busy night, youll be paying the $10. Good assortment of restaurants in the area for breakfast, but watch the hours: some only open early on weekends. Nice rooms, if a bit small, very high ceilings, massive shower. Be sure to read the history of the place on the back of the restaurant menu. We had calamari, salads, burger with mushrooms, normal burger, and Reuben sandwich. Good food for a hotel, not the best ever, but very good. Outdoor patio available for restaurant seating in good weather.

I was warned in advance that the hotels bar and dining facilities would be limited because of the corona virus threat. I was not told that there would be no room service of any kind! Ok, so a couple things to note:- its during covid, so many things were not open. No housekeeping, pool, fitness, restuarant, etc.- for reasons explained below, we were supposed to have a very nice room, and instead we had a VERY nice room.So we didnt get the standard experience. We got in, dealt with a very nice woman named Linda who checked us in while juggling various phone calls for service. We got to the suite and it smelled like an ashtray. I called down and asked if maybe there was a mistake because wed wanted a non smoking room. Linda: sir, all the rooms in the hotel are non smoking Me: ah. Well someone smoked a lot in this room.Over the next 30 minutes, Linda dealt with us politely and professionally, and they ended up upgrading us for no extra charge. I can not adequately express my love for the shower in the luxury suite.Pros:- can not beat the location. Walking distance to everything.- very comfortable and clean.- people are very, very nice. Not just Linda.- the courtyard is gorgeous.- prices of food and drink were totally reasonable, low by hotel standards.Cons:- its an old building; some things are a bit smaller than you might be used to (like the elevator)- breakfast was pretty mediocre. Again, though, covid. Good news is that steamys cafe across the street is amazing.

This hotel is lovely, and there are also several areas that need improvement.1. Décor: The hall rugs and some furnishings seem old, rather than historic-looking, and could use some freshening-up with period-appropriate reproductions.2. Handicap Access: This hotel is NOT that handicap friendly, & also is a bit awkward for anyone who is heavy-set, because portions of the layout of the rooms are squished and illogical. We could not get to our bed from one side because of the fireplace mantle being way too close to the bedpost, and there was absolutely no wiggle room to adjust that. The night stand on the side we could reach is right up on the door, and if you are entering the room you could easily knock into it or knock things over. There is one handicap parking spot for the entire Hotel (AYFKM???), and it is not even that close to the building. The front of the building has a place to pull up and unload, but there is no ramp there to load your luggage or enter there in a wheelchair, so you have to do it from the back which is quite a schlep from the parking lot if you are mobility-impaired. Historical building or not, there are some ADA failures going on.3. Room Overview: The rooms are well apportioned, size aside. We had a lovely gas fireplace (that took a minute to get going, but finally did) and is nice and toasty. Theres plenty of electrical outlets for personal electronics, although a few of the outlets are in awkward places to reach, and a couple were even pulling out of the wall. We had a fridge, microwave, and computer desk. (I bring these things up because of the historical nature of the building; similar buildings do not always have expected modern amenities that we would nowadays take for granted.)4. Bathroom: We are very impressed with the size of and the amenities in the bathrooms. There is a separate Jacuzzi bathtub, and a huge glass shower, as well as a double sink, a towel rack (although it doesnt seem to be heated), and a marble floor throughout. As someone else mentioned, for safety reasons, this Jacuzzi bathtub is wonderful but there should be handrails to get in and out whether you are handicapped or not. Its very slippery and awkward to enter and exit safely.5. Website: The hotel website is not all that mobile app friendly, and some of the menu navigation is difficult.6. Bathroom Redux: The light switch for the bathroom is not illuminated in the dark and it is all the way around behind one of the double doors. It really should be on the outside of the bathroom, so you can turn on the light as you go in, not trip trying to find it in the middle of the night.7. Bed: We had a king size bed in the junior suite and it was actually too tall for a short person to be able to get in without a step stool. The front desk was kind enough to send us something up for the weekend, but I think it would make the room look nice and also be more pragmatic to have those bedroom step stools be standard in any rooms with these king size beds.8. Bathroom: The entire bathroom area, and most especially the toilet, which is interestingly separated from everything else by its own closet (very European,) is absolutely, unbearably freezing, and there seems to be no vents in there to heat it up. Leaving the double doors open so that the rest of the room can heat it, and even while using the fireplace, none of that does any good. And the floors are marble, so going in, in the dark, in the middle of the night, is a bracing adventure.9. Vending: The vending machines dont have many choices, and are not on every floor as they should be. Pack your own snacks from home.10. Gift Shop & Tea: We did find something of a gift shop that is centered around Tea items that are themed to George Washington (specialized to the motif of the hotel.)In general, the hotel is lovely, for the most part, and the historical vibe is kind of fun, but if youre going to charge $300 a night for all the way out in Winchester, theres a lot of improvement that needs to go on.

Everything was great until myself and my 4 year old and 2 year old went swimming in the pool. We were getting ready to leave the pool when my 4 year old had to go to the bathroom. While she was in the bathroom a lady came up to me and said that we weren’t supposed to use that bathroom and that we were disturbing the people getting massages in the next room. She also said that she had a client coming in 15 mins that was going to use the pool and made it clear that she wanted us to leave the pool. Don’t put a spa center right next to the pool it’s going to be busy with people if that’s the only way into the pool or let families know that the pool is off limits for kids. I was super excited to swim there and show my kids because I had a friend who went a few years back and loved his whole experience. Kids deserve to have fun too and if your hotel is only for old people you should make that more clear.
