Review №1

This log cabin, across the west lawn of “Abram’s Delight,” is not the property’s original building but rather is a 1780 structure moved in 1967 from the south side of Cork Street in Old Town Winchester to nearby Abraham Hollingsworth’s original cabin site. It was situated as not to endanger future archaeological work. The cabin represents a typical early Shenandoah Valley dwelling including a rarely reproduced double layered side overlapping white oak shingle roof. It was once the property of a tailor who left the area circa 1830. A performance of the play “George Washington Slept Here” was one of the many fundraisers undertaken by the Society to reconstruct and furnish the cabin. Many of the furnishings were given by local Quaker families.
