This park is a hidden gem. In the summer, the splash pad has shade from all the trees, its self operated meaning an adult pushes the button and the water squirts for approx 15 minutes, then shuts off again. There is a covered shelter area, softball diamond, they just put in an AMAZING skate park that is full of kids and adults all different levels skating and doing tricks. Its fun to just go sit and watch. They have a tennis court, but it needs some love. I wish they would resurface it and add some Pickleball lines. It also has a basketball court, a walking path, and a big grassy area for dogs to chase balls (leashed if course, or at least well trained).

Fun city park with quite a bit to do. Tennis, baseball, and basketball. Fun splash pad for the hot summer days. Swings and other playground equipment as well. Definitely will come back again!

We rented the shelter for my sons birthday, played some baseball, splash pad, and tons of space!

The tennis courts could be updated. There is a space that used to be a skate park, but its just sidewalk with holes and grass now. There is not enough parking if theres a game at the ball field. The park and splashpad are nice though

The splashground and playground are wonderful. Also, there is a nice shelter good for having lunch. That being said, there are two main problems with this park. First, there is little to no snow removal, so we were unable to use it most of the winter. Second, frequently parents let unruly older children run around on the preschool playground which makes it dangerous for the little kids.

A playground, water feature, softball field, basketball hoops and tennis court manage to share space with a parking lot and bathrooms without feeling cramped at all. In fact, this is one of the most pleasant open community spaces in Des Moines in spite of its small size. I love walking over from 5th Street to eat lunch in the shade of one of the many venerable old trees, enjoying the sun and relaxing in the well-kept grass. Treat yourself to some quiet time in one of the hidden gems of Valley Junction.

Very empty looking, not very inviting.it would be better if it had more stuff to do and the bathrooms were locked we were there in the afternoon they shouldnt of been locked

Legion Park is my favorite neighborhood park since I was a little girl. Equipment is always in good repair and updated frequently.

We love to stop by when visiting family in the area. My kiddos enjoy the splash pad and the playgrounds. We had fun watching our cousin participate in the Pee Wee T ball program.

This is one of our favorite parks. Great for elementary age kids, not much for young small children. The spray ground is great for all ages in the summer.

My kids love it here. The splash pad is always a big hit. Theres not much shade around the splash pad and kids do a good job of experimenting with the water pressure to soak adults sitting on the benches, so just bring sunscreen and expect to get wet if youre anywhere near it. The playground is nice too. The bathrooms are serviceable and Ive always found them to be cleaner than most public parks. Overall, weve always had good experiences here.

Large play area

Waters doesnt turn in until 11. There isnt much shade. The playground is fun but better for older kids. The water button has to be constantly pressed to keep the water on. On weekends the parking gets filled up fast No wading pool so you dont have to worry about drowning. Nice picnic area. Bathrooms are available!

Enjoyable park. The playground equipment is very different from other playgrounds around Des Moines. Kids love using the main playground as an obstacle course! There is a mid size splash pad.

This is a beautiful, clean park with a good variety of unique playground equipment for a wide age range of children. It also has a splash pad in the summer, bathrooms and a large shelter area with several picnic tables and a charcoal grill.

Nice little park, could use some better grass but plenty of space to play and my kids enjoy visiting.
