We were invited to a private party with a provided buffet. The food was, at best, mediocre bar food. I was astonished. With the reputation of this place, I was expecting a lot more and better execution. I have no problem with bar food. I just wasnt expecting it here (and for it to be weak as well). To be fair, the food choices may have been the selection of the people throwing the party, and the freshly sliced top sirloin was excellent.

I attend a monthly lunch meeting at this location. When there is a large group they setup a buffet. When its a smaller group they have a standard buffet line. Both are really good food, and the brownies are great!

I was that the embassy Club West for an Iowa Hawkeye event. It was held outside by the lake. Very nice venue and very strong service. The people are great who work there.

Rehearsal dinner was held here. Food was good, but I doubt it was worth the price. The prime rib at our table varied from rare-rare to well done. I like rare to medium rare, so I traded my wife for hers. It was blue at best.The sides were OK. The bar staff, servers, etc. Were also decent. I talk about price not knowing how much things cost, but based on their menu and the price of drinks at the real bar I suspect the bill was HIGH. Normally Id give a 3-4 star rating, thats obviously not the case...The biggest reason for my negative review is the experience we had at the restaurant bar. Service was atrocious. It was like the bartender got lost pouring our drinks. When the drinks came we immediately asked for the bill. It took so long, I swear the guy had to make the paper before printing on it. Then there was the sticker shock. We got a couple of neat, mid to lower level liquors. Two doubles cost more than an entire bottle, and that is before they tacked on their service fee.We asked the bartender what the service fee was for- we literally had 2 drinks. He grumpily stated it was ... to pay the waitresses wages. There was no waitress involved. Maybe he had to ad the fee because he was so bad? The whole thing was a surreal experience. Ive had way better service at way dingyer establishments. This guy was a jerk plain and simple.When I go out I usually dont dress too formal. The bartender had an air of snobbery, so at first I figured the poor service was because we were lesser clientele. We were in well tailored suits, so that couldnt have been the case. In the end, I concluded the guy was just a jerk and we went back to our dinner and had a blast.To give you an idea of how bad it was, we drank our drinks, paidnn and left. It took a good half hour. I was there with a professional bartender. He leaves MASSIVE tips. The bartender got nothing. At the rehersal, my biddy was basically paying the server for our drinks yet it was an open bar (she was lovely).I will never go back unless there is an unavoidable reason. If that happens I might crash my car on the way just to avoid it. It was so bad!
