I love the Little Gym the ataff are amazing and the location is very convenient. They take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the children from physical risks to Covid risk. Im glad this location opened, and the pricing isnt bad either.

The proprietor response here highlights my point that Little Gym needs to step up its kids mask policy - especially now as the virus rages. My concern that the kids are allowed by policy to be maskless during class is mitigated in no way by the proprietors reply. DC requires everyone 3 and up to mask when entering any establishment. Gymnastics is not a socially distant activity. The reply states kids may remove masks if needed while class is in session. The policy could at least be to inform parents that masking is mandatory for all at all times and announce once before class that masks must be on for all at all times so that the parents can police and staff dont have to be the bad guys. The staff articulate the policy they are given - lots of handwashing, but once the shoes are off, kids are allowed to wear no covering. DC parents have the means to purchase lighter weight masks for their children and will do it if the policy requires. DC parents wont leave in droves. They will respect that the establishment takes the pandemic very seriously, not somewhat seriously. Aside from this, Little Gym and their staff are great!Original post:This is a nice, well run establishment that Id rate more highly pre or post - covid. The problem is, while all adults are required to wear masks, it is optional for kids. Half of the kids in the session were not wearing masks. I mentioned it to another parent who noted her kid was masked bc she had sickle cell anemia and couldnt take chances. I expect such lax attitudes toward the risks of the covid pandemic in Trumpy areas, not DC.The instructors are firm with the kids about hand washing, which is better than nothing but not much better, as the virus is primarily spread by inhaling droplets and aerosol particles. The gym is not exceptionally well ventilated as the main area is in the basement level, with no option for windows. In route to The Little Gym Capitol Hill, we grabbed ice cream and observed a kids martial arts class across the street being held outside in a public triangle park with each kid, parent, and the instructor wearing masks during class. In The Little Gym, my son was hot and complained, but and I told him keep his mask on. My daughter as well. Its regrettable that as the long winter of this pandemic begins, The Little Gym is passing the buck to parents to opt or not to have their adorable little potential vectors potentially cause harm to kids with asthma, staffers with an at risk family member in their pods, versus mandating responsible behavior.Take a lesson from the very responsible outdoor martial arts classes. There are lighter weight cloth masks like the one my daughter wore, which I do outdoor cardio with that can be worn with less discomfort and beat the brakes off of wearing nothing. They could turn the ac up a bit so masking is less uncomfortable for little ones. DC would not permit an elementary school school to open with half of the kids in class rooms unmasked. Its about protecting others...please correct this reckless policy, Little Gym!
